    FOREWORD

    This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Pesticides Sectional Committee, had been approved by the Food and Agricultural Division Council.

    Kitazin, technical is employed in the preparation of fungicidal formulations.

    Kitazin is the proposed common name by the International Organization for Standardization ( IS0 > for S-benzyl 0, 0-di-isopropyl phosphorothioate. The empirical and structural formulae: and molecular mass of kitazin are given below:

    Empirical Formula Structural Formula Molecular Mass

    288’3

    In the preparation of this standard, due Insecticides Act, 1968 and the Rules framed

    consideration has been given to the provisions of the thereunder. However, this standard is subjected to _. _.

    the restrictions imposed under the Act and Rules wherever applicable.

    \OCH (CH3 12

    For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with the final value, observed, or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised)‘. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specifiedr value in this standard.

    3 REQUIREMENTS

    3.1 Description

    The material shall be in the form of a clear, ~colourless to pale yellow liquid. Some solid portion may also be present in the container, particularly in cold weather. It shall be free

    ,from extraneous impur:ties or added modifying agent(s).

    3.2 The material shall also comply with the requirements given in Table 1.

    4 PACKING

    The material shall be packed in mild steel drums, suitably and properly lacquered by

    epoxy coated resin from inside. The genera1 requirements given in IS 8190 ( Part 2 ) : 1988 shall be followed.

    5 MARKING 1

    The container shall bear legibly and indelibly the following information in addition to any other information as is necessary under the Insecticides Act, 1968 and Rules framed thereunder:

    4

    b) c> d) e) f 1 h)

    Name of the material;

    Name of the manufacturer;

    Date of manufacture;

    Batch number;

    Kitazin content, percent ( m/m );

    Net mass of the contents, and

    The minimum cautionary notice as worded in the Insecticides Act, 1968 and Rules framed thereunder

    6 SAMPLING

    Representative samples of the material shall be drawn according to IS 10946 : 1984.

    7 TESTS

    7.1 Tests shall be carried out by the methods referred to in co1 4 and 5 of Table 1.

    7.2 Quality of Reagents

    Unless specified otherwise, pure chemicals and distilled water (see IS 1070 : 1992 ) shall be employed in tests

    NOTE - ‘Pure chemicals’ shall mean chemicals that do not contain inpurities which affect the results of analysis.

    ANNEX A [ Chse 3.2, TabZe 1, Item ( i ) ]

    DETERMINATION OF

    A-I PRINCIPLE

    The sample is diluted to appropriate volume with chloroform and content is determined using dibutyl phthalate or equivalent as internal standard, by gas chromatography.

    A-2 APPARATUS

    A-2.1 Microlitre Syringe - 10 pl capacity

    A-2.2 Gas Chromategraph

    The instrument shall be equipped with a flame ionization detector and may be coupled to a printer-plotter cum integrator. The operative parameters are suggested below, which can be changed in any other equipment, provided standardization is done:

    Column - Glass, 360 cm length X 2 mm ID; packed with 5 percent OV-1 on Gas Chrom Q ( 60-80 mesh)

    Temperatures

    Column oven - 240°C Injection port - 275°C Detector - 300°C

    Carrier Gas and and Flow Rate

    Nitrogen ( N2 ) - 40 ml per minute

    A-3 REAGENTS

    A-3.1 Chloroform

    A-3.2 Internal Standard - dibutyl phthalate

    A-3.3 Kitazin Reference Standard - of known purity

    A-4 PROCEDURE

    A-4.1 Preparation of Internal Standard Solution

    Weigh accurately 0’1 g dibutyl phthalate in a IOO-ml volumetric flask and make up the volume to the mark with chloroform. This will give a solution containing 1 mg/ml of dibutyl phthalate. The solution will remain stable for 4 weeks if it is stored in a tightly sealed bottle under refrigeration. Allow the solution to attain room temperature before use.

    KITAZIN CONTENT

    A-4.2 Preparation of Standard Solution

    Weigh accurately 200 mg of kitazin reference standard in a lOO-ml volumetric flask and make up the volume to the mark with chloroform. Take 5 ml of this solution into a 25-ml volu- metric flask and add 5 ml of the internal standard solution and finally make up the volume to the mark with chloroform.

    A-4.3 Preparation of Sample Solution

    Weigh accurately a quantity of the sample equivalent to 200 mg of kitazin in a loo-ml volumetric flask and make up the volume to, to mark with chloroform. Take 5 ml of this solution into a 25-ml volumetric flask and add 5 ml of the internal standard solution and finally make up the volume to the mark with chloroform.

    A-4.4 Estimation

    Inject a known volume of the standard solution and the sample solution with the help of a microlitre syringe. Measure the peak areas of. the internal standard, standard and sample.

    A-5 CALCULATION

    Kitazin content, percent by mass = M ’ Ai ’ A3 x ’

    M, x A,! X A4

    where

    M, = mass in g of reference standard’ kitazin;

    M2 = mass in g of sample taken for the. test;

    Al = Peak area of internal standsrd in the standard solution injected;

    AZ = Peak area of kitazin in the standard solution injected;

    Aa = Peak area of kitazin in the sample solution injected;

    Ad = Peak area of internal standard in the sample solution injected; and

    P = percent purity of kitazin reference. standard.

  • I Standard Mark The use of the Standard Mark is governed by the provisions of the Bureau of Indian

    Standards Act, 2986 and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. The Standard Mark on products covered by an Indian Standard conveys the assurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements of that standard under a well defined system of inspection, testing and quality control which is devised and supervised by BIS and operated by the pro- ducer. Standard marked products are also continuously checked by BIS for conformity to that standard as a further safeguard. Details of conditions under which a licence for the use of the Standard Mark may be granted to manufacturers or producers may be obtained-from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
