Fa R E W 0 R D0.1 This Indian Standard ( Second Revision) was adopted by the IndianStandards Institution on 28 August 1980, after the draft finalized by theFire Fighting Sectional Committee had been approved by the CivilEngineering Division Council.0.2 This standard has been formulated to help in production of combinedkeys of proper specification. This standard was originally published in1958 and revised in 1972. In this revision two des.igns, which are currentlimanufactured in the country have been specified.0.3 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of thisstandard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance withIS : 2-1960*. The number of significant places retained in the roundedoff value should be the same as that of the specified value in thisstandard.1. SCOPE1.1 This standard lays d.own the requirements regarding material, shapeand dimensions of combined key for hydrant, hydrant cover and lowervalve.2. MATERIALS2.1 The steel used shaH be of cast steel conforming to IS : 1030-1982f.The pipe portion shaH conform to IS : 1239 ( Part I h1979!

IS : 910 19803. SHAPE AND DIMENSIONS3.1 The shape and dimensions with tolerances of the two types of the keyare given in Fig. 1 and 2. The dimensions against which tolerances arenot mentioned shall be taken as nominal dimensions and the tolerances asgiven in IS: 2102 ( Part 1 )-1980* shall apply. .4. WORKMANSHIP4.1 The kt'y shall be free from burrs and sharp edges. It sha.lI be giventwo coats of anti-corrosive black paint (see IS: 158-1968t). .5. MARKING5.1 Each key shall be clearly and permanently marked with the followinginformation:

a) Manufacturer's name or trade-mark,b) Type of key, andc) Year of manufacture.

5.1.1 The key may also be marked with Standard mark.S.t.2 T h ~ use of the Standard Mark is govered by the provisions of theBureau o( Indian Standards Act, 1986 and the Rules and Regulations madethereunder. The details of conditions under which the licence for the use ofStandard Mark may be granted to manufacturers or producers may be obtainedfrom the Bureau of Indian Standards.
