Organic food sales in the united states reached $24.8 billion in 2008 sales according to the Organic Trade Association’s, 2010 Organic Industry Survey.

In 2009, 54 percent of total organic food sales were handled through mainstream grocers, club stores and retailers.

There is mounting evidence that organically grown fruits, vegetables and grains may offer more of some nutrients.

“certified Organic” means that the item has been grown accordingly to strict uniform standards that are verified by independent state or private organizations.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture regulates the claims to organic food farms and organic food.

Certified Organic products have been grown and handled accordingly to strict standards without toxic and persistent chemical inputs.

Organic food continues to gain market share, despite troubles in the economy as a whole.

The organic food industry in Canada is a $2 billion a year industry.
