DEUTERONOMY 11:10-25

10 For the land that you are about to enter and possess is not likethe land of Egypt from which you have come. There the grain yousowed had to be watered by your own labours, like a vegetable garden;11 but the land you are about to cross into and possess, a land of hillsand valleys, soaks up its water from the rains of heaven. 12 It is a landwhich your God the ETERNAl looks after, on which your God theETERNAL always keeps an eye, from year’s beginning to year’s end.

13 If, then, you obey the commandments that I enjoin upon you thisday, loving your God the ETERNAL and serving God with all your heartand soul, 14 I will grant the rain for your land in season, the early rainand the late. You shall gather in your new grain and wine and oil—15 Iwill also provide grass in the fields for your cattle—and thus you shalleat your fill. 16 Take care not to be lured away to serve other gods andbow to them. 17 For the ETERNAL’S anger will flare up against you, shutting up the skies so that there will be no rain and the ground will notyield its produce; and you will soon perish from the good land that theETERNAL is assigning to you. 18 Therefore impress these My words uponyour very heart: bind them as a sign on your hand and let them serve asa symbol on your forehead, 19 and teach them to your children—recitingthem when you stay at home and when you are away, when you liedown and when you get up; 20 and inscribe them on the doorposts ofyour house and on your gates—21 to the end that you and your childrenmay endure, in the land that the ETERNAL swore to your fathers toassign to them, as long as there is a heaven over the earth.

22 If, then, you faithfully keep all this Instruction that I command you, loving your God the ETERNAL, walking in all God’s ways, and holdingfast to God, 23 The ETERNAL will dislodge before you all these nations:you will dispossess nations greater and more numerous than you.24 Every spot on which your foot treads shall be yours; your territoryshall extend from the wilderness to the Lebanon and from theRiver—the Euphrates—to the Western* Sea. 25 No one shall stand up toyou: your God the ETERNAL will put the dread and the fear of you overthe whole land in which you set foot, as promised.

ISAIAH 50:2 - 51-3

2Why, when I came, was no one there, no one to answer, when Icalled? Is My hand really too weak to redeem? Do I lack the powerto save? With My rebuke I dry up the sea, and turn rivers into desert.Fish stink from lack of water and die on parched ground. 3I shroudthe skies in blackness and make their clothing sackcloth.4The ETERNAL GOD has taught me how to speak, even to those oftired speech. Morning by morning, God awakens me, awakens myear, teaching me to listen. 5The ETERNAL GOD opened my ear, and Idid not rebel, I did not turn away. 6I gave my back to those who beatme, my cheeks to those who tore out my hair. I did not hide my facefrom insult and spitting. 7For the ETERNAL GOD will help me, andtherefore I feel no disgrace, but have set my face steady like flint, knowing I shall not be put to shame. 8My champion is near, whodares fight with me? Let us stand up together to be judged! Who aremy adversaries? Let them confront me! 9With the ETERNAL GOD tohelp me, who can declare me wrong? They shall wear out like agarment, like a moth-eaten cloth.10Who among you reveres the ETERNAL, and respects the words ofGod’s servant? Who walks in darkness, though they have no light;who trusts in the ETERNAL and leans on God? 11But you — all of you— who kindle your own fire, who set torches alight, go and walk bythe blaze of your fire, by the torches you have lit! This comes to youfrom My hand: you shall lie down in pain.51:1Listen to Me, all who pursue justice, all who seek the ETERNAL!Look to the rock from which you were hewn, the quarry from whichyou were cut! 2Look back to Abraham your father and to Sarah whobore you! When I called him he was alone, but I blessed him andmade him many. 3Just so the ETERNAL will comfort Zion, comfortingall her ruins: making her wilderness like Eden, her desert like theGarden of the ETERNAL, where joy and gladness are found, thanksgiving and the sound of song.
