The Open was by far the most successful one organized in Mauritius over the last 4 years, not only because
of its record number of 96 participants and 12 categories, but also with the presence of the Minister of
Youth & Sports, his Honorable Devanand Rittoo, for the Opening Ceremony. The latter was pleasantly
surprised by the rapid and positive development made in the Mauritian Speed Badminton community in
such a short period of time with the setting up of 6 Speed Badminton Club in Vacoas, Curepipe, Quatre-
Bornes, Flacq, the University of Mauritius and the North, as well as the local Speed Badminton Federation.
According to the Minister, the sport definitely has a promising future...
The venue, Dr James Burty David Municipal Gymnasium in Curepipe, was again ideal due its strategic
location and infrastructure.
Local Speed Badminton players belonged to one of the following clubs:
- Quatre Bornes Speed Badminton Club (QBSBC)
- Vacoas Speed Badminton Club (VSBC)
- Curepipe Speed Badminton Club (CSBC)
- University of Mauritius Student Speed Badminton Club (USSBC)
- North Speed Badminton Club (NSBC)
- Flacq Speed Badminton Club (FSBC)

TESTIMONIALS
"I am very happy to have won this 1000 points Nando's Open. Last time I came third, so I had to give a
better performance to be able to win the tournament. It has been tough though as there were many young
promising players who have played very well for their first or second time. This makes me feel excited for
the next tournaments to come."
- Kamlesh Bhoyroo, Winner of Open Division, Mauritius
"I am really happy and proud to have won, for the second time, the Ladies Singles category of the Open
worth 1000 points, despite my ankle injury and few cramps. This competition has been very challenging as
it has been 6 months since I have not been practicing on a regular basis. It is all thanks to the support of my
family and friends. Playing Speed Badminton is not only a competition but also an opportunity to meet new
people from different cultures...”
- Charlene Ah-Sam, Winner of Ladies Singles Category, Mauritius
"This has been a really positive and overwhelming experience for me...I managed to win the Seniors +40
category and 3rd
place in the Open doubles. This was quite unexpected. I’ve been amazed about the
organization and the participants. It’s been a really nice experience.”
- Mats Clasgard, Finalist Seniors +40 Category, Sweden
"Great tournament! A final lost against a...Swedish!!! Perfect organization and an atmosphere which made
me be glad to be part of. An experience to be repeated!”
- Hervé Pichot, Semi-finalist, Seniors +40 Category, France
-
"I was glad to have witnessed the good organization and grateful for the warm welcome from all the
participants, organizers and Minister of Youth & Sports. I’ll be back.
- Gibert Malvino, President of Speed Badminton Club 97.4, La Reunion
