HPC StorageBrand Leader Survey Methodology

Brand Leader Reports are designed to measure the pulse of brandleadership in specific product categories using surveys with atleast 100 respondents.

The HPC Storage Brand Leader Survey was conducted in March,2012 and published in April, 2012.

Respondents were solicited from over 1,000,000 members of 100+online IT groups, and from the IT Brand Pulse end-user database. One hundred sixty-two IT Pros completed this survey. Responses were collected using an online survey engine.

In each part respondents were provided with a list of vendors andasked six questions:1. Who do you perceive as the HPC Storage marketleader?

2. Who do you perceive as the HPC Storage priceleader?

3. Who do you perceive as the HPC Storage performanceleader?

4. Who do you perceive as the HPC Storage reliabilityleader?

5. Who do you perceive as the HPC Storage service & support leader?

6. Who do you perceive as the HPC Storage innovationleader?

Summary Analysis

EMC Isilon captures HPC Storage Market Leader Award

In 2012, the storage brand leader board is dominated by EMC. IT professionals selected EMCas the market leader for Unified Storage, Fibre Channel Storage, Deduplication, Disk Arraysfor VMs, and nowHPC Storage. However, in no storage product category did EMC have alarger spread between first and second place than EMC Isilon did in the HPC storage category.Hitachi Data Systems was voted second, just ahead of third place winner, NetApp.

EMC Isilon voted Brand Leader in five of six categories

Including their Market Leader Award, EMC Isilon was voted brand leader in five of sixcategories. EMC Isilon landed first in the all-important HPC category of Performance. The

company also won outright the Reliability and Innovation awards, while tying with NetApp forfirst in Service & Support.

Dell chosen as HPC Storage Price Leader

Although Dell is working hard to become a value-added storage provider, their customers stillroutinely vote for Dell as the price leader in the server, storage and networking productarenas in which they compete.

Leading Enterprise Storage Brands extend their capabilities to HPC

Only four companies placed in the top three in voting for six brand leader categories: EMC,Hitachi, NetApp and Dell. NetApp placed first, second or third in every category of HPCstorage brand leadership; Hitachi placed in three categories; and Dell placed in twocategories. HPC storage specialists, Data Direct and Panasas, did not place first, second orthird in any category of brand leadership.
