April, 2012, using 6MHz in V-High
Quick Overview of NOTTV 2
NOTTV is a subscription-based, nation-wide Mobile Multimedia
Broadcasting service for smart phones and tablet devices, the
service which was commercially launched in April 2012 in Japan,
using a part of VHF spectrum after analog TV switch off.
NOTTV subscriber reached 1,531,014 at the end of December 2013.
Based on ISDB-Tmm, a family of the ISDB-T global standard.
8.8 Million+ NOTTV compatible Android smart phones and tablet
devices have been sold in Japan from manufacturers such as Fujitsu,
LG, NEC, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, and Panasonic.
NOTTV program mainly features on live, original contents such as
sports, music, entertainment, and drama; broadcasting 3 real time
channels, including a 24 hours news channel, and 200+ storage type
contents for JPY 400 (USD 4) per month.

Summary (ISDB-Tmm in Japan) 26
Lessons that we learned / Conclusion
ISDB-Tmm based mobile multimedia broadcasting was launched on
April, 2012, using the VHF spectrum after analog TV shutoff.
- # of subscribers (400yen/month) reached 1.5 million
- 8.8 million+ smartphones/tablets in 39 models shipped
ISDB-Tmm provides high quality media coding, advanced use of meta-
data, high efficiency file delivery protocol, advanced content protection,
etc. on top of ISDB-T, supporting:
- Conventional real-time broadcasting
- File-based broadcasting
78%+ house hold covered with 61 transmitters, and targeting 90%+ until
the end of fiscal year 2014.
Key success factors:
- Corroboration among Broadcasters (contents), Mobile network
operator (services), Manufacturers (handsets)
- new program/service format utilizing communications functionality
Thank you for your attention.
