Searching

Forms of Names
Beware of different forms of names:– Sung JY (Sung Jao Yiu)– Sung JJY (Sung Joseph Jao Yiu)– Sung J (Sung Joesph)– Sung JJ (Sung Joesph Jao)
Married Woman– their husband’s family name + their maiden
name e.g Lam Leung Suei Yee– In US, some use their maiden name +
husband’s family name e.g. Hillary Rodham Clinton

Exercise Answer
Change the default setting of timespan to 1980
Use parentheses to override the original the operator precedence: SAME, NOT, AND, OR
To use operator other than “AND” to combine two or more than two searches, it must be done in Advanced Search mode

Cited Reference Search
Enables you to find articles that have cited a previously published workEnables you to discover how a known idea or innovation has been confirmed, applied, improved, extended, or corrected
Cited Reference Search
1. Enter the name of a Cited Author and the abbreviated title of a Cited Work. Then click Search.
2. If you retrieve too many hits, return to the form and add a Cited Year or a limited range of cited years.
3. After you click Search, you will see references from the citation index that contain the cited author/cited work data you entered.
4. Select references from the citation index, and then click Finish Search. You will retrieve records of articles that cite the references you selected from the citation index.

Enter the abbreviated journal title. Look up abbreviations of the cited work in the list of journal abbreviations
