INTRODUCTION

ISIE-INDIAN KARTING

Its Student Go-Kart design and manufacturing competition Engineering Diploma student from

all over India register their team and compete with other team in different round of event IKR is

a contest formulated to enhance the approach of students practicing Engineering and Diploma

courses This competition held with permit of FMSCI (Under Ministry of Sports) by highly

professional organizing committee and marshal scrutineer from different reputed Motorsport

organizations and automobile industries

A1 Objective

IKR is a design and manufacturing of Go-kart event under ISIE Design Restriction and

FMSCICIKFIA so as to compete with other teams all over the country from different

organizations Our objective to promote Motorsports as profession in India Passion Creativity

Innovation and practical approach based technical skill in engineeringdiploma students

A2 Scope

Indian companies are also producing go-karts in small scale Kart racing is generally accepted as

the most economic form of motor sport Go-karts emerged in India in 2003 from MRF There is

ample amount of scope to step forward in motorsport field IKR 2016 also gave 18 students

recruitment at event site only

A3 History of IKR

This Innovative initiative was taken in 2013 and we organized 2 successful season of this event

In 2013-2014 held at Kari Motor Speed Way Coimbatore

42 Go-Kart Compete in 3 days event

Title of Champion won by Team from BIT Bangalore

A32 IKR 2015-2016

In 2015-2016 event was organized at SKCET Coimbatore

62 teams from 13 state of India compete in four days of event

IKR16 was the first Go-kart (Student) event conducted with the permit of FMSCI

JK Tyre Motorsports and Mahindra amp Mahindra official witness of event

Young speed star of India Ms Mira Erda Flag off Final Race

18 students selected for recruitment during the event

Event got 35 media coverage (all most top newspaper covered)

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENT

B1 Individual Participation Requirement

B11 Eligibility limits

This competition is for the student pursing engineering degree or diploma can form a team and

can participate

B12 ID card

Valid ID card of the Educational institute is required as a proof to ensure that participant is a part

of that educational institutionuniversity

B13 Society membership

Society membership is not compulsory to any participant or advisor in order to participate in the

ISIE IKR But if any Professional or Advisor wants the membership of our society they can

apply online at wwwimperialsocietyin

B2 Team Entry Requirement

B21 Team name

Meaningful and inspirational team name is required to distinguish the team in the competition

B22 Team mail ID

Every team is required to create a team mail id to communicate or query to ISIE

B23 Team signature

Every team must have their signature in their team mail ID as given in picture

B24 Team representative

Every team should have a team captainrepresentative and a vice captain

B25 Team Logo

An attractive team logo is required from participating team Teams are required to upload their

Every team must require one team advisor Teams are also free to have additional one

B29 Liability Waiver

All on-site participants including Advisor are required to sign a liability waiver upon registering

on-site

Every team must fill Indemnity form before enteringdynamic round

B3 Driverrsquos Requirement

Every team should have minimum two drivers

B31 Driverrsquos License

Team members who will drive a competition Kart at any time during a competition must hold a

valid government issued drivers license

B32 Driver Restrictions

Driver must be from the team The professional driver from outside is not allowed to ride the

Kart during the competition

B33 Medical Insurance

Individual medical insurance coverage is required for both driver and is the sole responsibility of

the driver Driver without a valid Medical Insurance will not be allowed to drive in the Dynamic

Events

B34 Age

The age required to be a driver in the competition is 18 years

B4 Kart Eligibility

B41 Teams developed Kart

Kart entered into ISIE-IKR must be conceived designed fabricated and maintained by

the team members

Teams are required to make at least five minutes video of the whole manufacturing

process of the Kart before the dynamic round and upload to their team account

B42 Fabrication

It is the intent of the IKR to provide direct hands-on experience to the Professionals Therefore

they can perform all fabrication as per their project plan submitted to the organizing committee

B43 Kart Used for Multiple Years

Companies may enter the same Kart for multiple years but must document substantial

improvements andor upgrades to the Kart as used in the previous yearrsquos competition



There is no direct entry in dynamic round for the previous year participating team They

have to go through the report submission round

Add Details of Team Members

Submit (You will receive confirmation SMS and mail)

Sign Up to website with same mail id to create your team account

You can register with single member details and later on you can update your team

memberrsquos details in your team account

Note Once the team has been registered the payment should be done within 5 working days

from the date of registration and receipt should be uploaded to their team account

C12 Team undertaking form

After online registration and the payment confirmation a copy of the team undertaking (attested

by higher authority of the team respective Organization) must be uploaded to team account at

wwwimperialsocietyin within 10 working days after payment confirmation

If the team drawback within first week of registration 50 amount will be refunded

or novel rule interpretations The Committee will not respond to questions that are already

answered in the rules For example if a rule specifies a minimum dimension for a part the

C34 Response Time

The Rules Committee will respond as quickly as possible however responses to questions

presenting new issues or of unusual complexity may take more than two weeks

GO-KART REQUIREMENTS amp RESTRICTIONS

D1 Chassis Material

Teams are allowed to use only seamless pipe it should be a circular cross section with outer diameter in the

range of 1 to 2 inches Minimum thickness of the pipe should be 15 mm

Teams are not allowed to use any type of composite material (Fiber as Carbon Glass and Kevlar) for

construction of frame except seat and body works Alloys from different metalssubstance are not considered

as composite material (for example brake disc)

Teams must have material testing certificate from any authorized material testing center

Teams must have original printed bills of material with VAT Hand written bills are not allowed

D11 Roll hoop



It is mandatory to have a roll hoop on driverrsquos back It should be made from one piece of pipe by using

bends the roll hoop should be made from metal pipe or tube only It should be supported by trussesbracers

with the main frame at a height of at least 15 inches above lower base of chassis on hoopMinimum height

required for hoop is 3 inches above top most point of helmet of tallest driver seated on go-kart seat

D12 Bumpers

Bumpers are mandatory in all four sides of Kart It should be strong enough so that during collision it should

not impact driver seat compartment It should not be less than outer most point of tires as shown in figure

(Fig 1) with blue line Minimum height of bumperof rear and left-right side is 5inches from the lower base

of chassisframe Full round type bumpers are not allowed as shown in fig 3 Without a bumper team cannot

participate in the event There is no restriction in type of pipe for manufacturing bumper but it must be of

metal and rigidly attached with chassis Bumper coveringbumper body works can be of glass fiber or plastic

but must be rigidlyattached

D13 Driverrsquos leg compartment

In this area driverrsquos leg will be placed Teams have to design the Go-Kart such a way that during impact this

compartment and Driverrsquos seat compartment should not be crushed Teams can place other components like

brake lever etc in leg compartment

D14 Driverrsquos Seat compartment

Driverrsquos seat will be place in this area which should be well protected having enough space for

driver to come out easily as per guidelines given in the ergonomics section

Other safety requirements like fire extinguishers at least one kill switch etc has to be placed

within this area

No heat from the engine compartment will interact with this compartment

Drivers must be able to exit the Go-Kart within 5 seconds The time begins with the driver in

the fully seated position hands in driving position on the connected steering wheel and wearing

the required driver equipment Egress time will stop when the driver has both feet on the

pavement

D15 Engine Compartment

This area holds the power house of the Go-Kart This area should be well equipped to hold the heavy

components of the Go-Kart It is mandatory to place engine at back side of driver ie behind roll hoop

Placing engine on left or right side of driver ie in seat compartment is strictly prohibited

D16 Jack Points

There must be two jack points on the Go-Kart one at the rear and other at the front The jack point must be

oriented horizontally and perpendicular to the centerline of the kart It should not be on the bumper or

bumper mount should be compulsorily on chassis member Its surface should be flat at bottom and painted

with orange color (different from body and chassis color) So that is should be clearly visible

D17 Hitch Point

There should be a 2 hitch point one in front and other at rear part of the KART which is for the pushpull

application It should be painted in yellow

D18 Pushpull Rod

Teams must have Detachable push rod It is mandatory for all the team Push rod should have the capability

to push as well as pull the Kart

D19 Drivers Seat

Only Bucket seat is allowed The lowest point of the drivers seat must not be lower than the bottom surface

of the lower frame rails or by having a longitudinal tube (or tubes) that meets the requirements for Side

Impact tubing passing underneath the lowest point of the seat

When seated in the normal driving position adequate heat insulation must be provided to ensure that the

driver will not in contact with any metal or other materials that may have temperature above sixty degrees

Celsius (60degC)

D110 Seat Belt Seat belt is not allowed

D111 Firewall

Firewall should separate all the fuel line system and the engine and all the fluids from the driver for rear

mount engine driver seat should be completely insulated from the same also the firewall should be

minimum up to the tallest driver upper neck point firewall should be free from holes drills open patches

etc it should be complete separable sheet which divides driver and engine compartment separate Use of

glass wool any other non-standard non-approved material should not be used from firewall driver should be

min 2 inches away in all directions Making any type of mounting for kill switch brake light fire

extinguisher seat etc and any unwanted cut on fire wall is strictly prohibited

D112 Front Bodywork

Sharp edges on the forward facing bodyworks or other protruding components are prohibited

It must cover from front bumper to steering wheel so that any outer material or debris from track (pebbles

small mechanical components etc) cannot strike or reach seat compartment Go kart bodyworks must have

required area for compulsory advertisement as shown in figure (Fig 19)



D113 Foot Guard

There must be a member for protecting foot of driver in form of plates plane pipes (as shown in fig 8 with

orange arrows) etc such that at full throttle the drivers topmost point of the toe is secured and protected

All Go-Karts must have a floor close-out made of one or more panels which separate the driver from the

pavementFloor close out should start from firewall of roll hoop and should be up to the front most part of

the chassis small gaps should not exceed more than 3mm also the close out should be capable of taking

drivers load while he stands egress amp moves out of the kart non-rigid close outs will not be entertained It

must prevent track debris to enter the kart

D115 Driver Visibility

The driver must have adequate visibility to the front and sides of the kart With the driver seated in a normal

driving position heshe must have a minimum two hundred degrees (200deg) field of visionand minimum one

hundred degrees (100deg) to either side of the driver The drivers view should not be restricted by steering

wheel position

D2 Steering System

D21 steering system

The steering wheel must be mechanically connected to the wheels ie ldquosteer-by-wirerdquo or electrically

actuated steering is prohibited All parts of steering system (steering column track rod tie rod etc) must be

of metal except steering wheel Carbon fiber nylon plastic etc are not allowed

D22 Steering wheel

The steering wheel must have a continuous perimeter that is near circular or near oval ie the outer

perimeter profile can have some straight sections but no concave sections ldquoHrdquo or cutout wheels are not

allowed Allowable steering system free play is limited to Seven degrees (7deg) total measured at the steering

Teams can use any mechanical linkage type steering system except Rack and Pinion or steer by wire

The steering system must have positive steering stops that prevent the steering linkages from locking up (the

inversion of a four-bar linkage at one of the pivots) The stops may be placed on the uprights and must

prevent the tires from contacting body or frame members during the track events

The kart must have minimum 254mm (1 inch) ground clearance

The weight of the Go-Kart should not exceed 180 kg (Excluding the weight of the driver)

D4 Braking System

D41 Brakes

The kart must be equipped with a hydraulic braking system that acts on all or at least two wheels and it

should be operated by a single control

D42 Brake type

Hydraulic circuit must have its own fluid reserve either by the use of separate reservoirs or by the use of a

dammed OEM-style reservoir Brake-by-wire systems are prohibited

Braking power should maintain at least on two wheels of the Kart

D43 Brake pedal

The brake pedal must be fabricated from steel or aluminum or machined from steel aluminum or titanium

Pedal should only be operated from driverrsquos foot and use of hand operated levers for braking mechanism is

not allowed

D44 Pedal Lock The pedal travel should be restricted after some distance by some kind of locking mechanisms

D45 Brake Over-Travel Switch

A brake pedal over-travel switch must be installed on the kart as part of the shutdown system and wired in

series with the shutdown buttons This switch must be installed so that in the event of brake system failure

such that the brake pedals over travels it will result in the shutdown of the system which will eventually

help controlling the system

use same brand (BampS or Honda) engine with same specification maximum 1 year old

D64 Throttle Paddle

Only foot operated paddle is allowed Hand operated lever will not allowed There should be a positive lock

provided with the throttle paddle This throttle stopper should be placed such that the throttle wire is not over

stressed and before the max motion of the throttle the stopper should restrict the paddle

D65 Transmission The transmission to be used in the Go-Karts must be of rear wheel drive only The teams are free to use any

sort of designs ie the use of differential through the axle the wheel mounting hub or by any other means

During the final round technical inspector checks governor setting and mention same RPM for all go-kart

The governor setting once set teams are not allowed to manipulate change

D66 Scatter shield



Team must use scatter shield for covering chain sprocket etc It must be rigidly mounted with chassis but

not with any moving part of kart It can be of metal net but capable to prevent scattering of small parts of

transmission system

D67 Muffler and Exhaust

We at ISIE strongly believe in green future The teams must keep in mind that they should select the

appropriate exhaust system In order to reduce the noise efficient exhaust silencers are compulsoryIt should

be on chassis or through chassis member only

Exposed high-speed final drive train equipment such as Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVTs)

differential sprockets gears pulleys torque converters clutches belt drives and clutch drives must be

fitted with scatter shields in case of failure

D68 Fuel Tank

Replacement of fuel tank or doing any change in fuel tank and its position is strictly prohibited Fuel tank

must not be covered with any external material so that fuel can be easily filled in it by Stewards or Marshals

D7 Safety Materials

D71 Kill switch

There should be two kill switches in the Go-Kart They should be placed in such a way that one can be

easily accessed by driver and other should be mounted on backside of roll hoop below back light as shown in

fig 13 Kill switch must be of bright red colorso that it can clearly visible from a long distanceIt should be

push to off type it should not be simple push button which retraces after the button is pressed also home

appliance switches should not be used as kill switches

Team must have 2 fire extinguishers each of 1 kg At least one must be rigidly mounted in driver sitting

compartment and other must be in hand of team member in every static and dynamic test during final round

seat compartment only in such a way that driver can easily access to it while seated in kart

In the pre virtual round students have to attend two days‟ skill development program

(SDP) on Go kart designing and manufacturing

In this SDP Industrial expert will teach students how to design and develop go kart using

various CAD and CAE software

This SDP program will held in 2 zones so participants can attend easily

Details of SDP venue Dates Participation charges and other necessary details will be

sent to all participating teams in their team account

It is mandatory to attend this round by at least 7 members from each team International

teams are not mandatory to attend pre-virtual round of this event

Every Team must send representative from every department of their kart so team can

understand better design and fabrication process

Certificate of participation will be provided by ISIE to every participant of skill

development Program



In the end of this round there will be a test on rulebook and whatever taught by expert

during SDP session This test will of 100 marks and its marks will be added in final

round

If or unless any teams fail to participate for any reason they will be zero marks given out

of 100 marks

E42 Briefings

The participants and drivers briefing is a meeting organized by the organizing committee of the

course for all participants and drivers entered in the event

E42aAim of Briefing is to remind participants and drivers of the specific points of the rules and

regulations concerning the organization of the event to remind them of the safety notions either

general or specific to the circuit used to give any clarification concerning the interpretation of the

regulations

E42b The time of the briefing will be mentioned in the schedule of the final round During

briefing no member can exit or enter in briefing hall Extra meeting may be organized if

necessary

E42c The presence of all concerned participants and drivers is mandatory throughout the briefing

under pain of a sanction or even of a possible exclusion from the event Two attendance sheets

shall be signed one by drivers and other by participants

E42d If any team fails to attend the Briefing then they are disqualified from Final event

E42e This disqualification can preventby taking permission to attend special briefing But by

paying a mandatory fine INR 5000 per team

E44a Technical Inspection (TI)

i Technical inspection is done to check whether the Kart is able to participate safely and

reliably in the event TI will also check for compliance with the Rule book

ii There are no points for this round Each team must qualify this round



iii Technical inspection will conduct with a series of stages Each stage will check each aspect

of the Kart In each stage one or more specialists from that department will be there He

She will scrutinize the Kart

iv Teams have to clear all the stages of the Technical Inspection Stages are listed below

v Only three members are allowed per team during TI Team caption and one of the drivers

vi Each Kart must pass all parts of technical inspection and testing before it is permitted to

participate in any dynamic event The exact procedures and instruments employed for inspection

vii Visible access can be provided by removing body panels or by providing removable access panels

to check the various components

viii Karts must be presented for technical inspection in finished condition ie fully assembled

complete and ready-to-run Scrutineer will not inspect any Go-Kart presented for inspection in an

unfinished state

E44b Corrections

i If a Go-Kart is deemed to a concern or does not comply with the rules then correction must be

done to get re-inspected

ii Use of mechanical application (cutting grinding drilling welding etc) for correcting repairing

kart can only be done in the Hot Pit provide No team will allow to performing any mechanical

process at Pit

iii Only 2 attempts will be given to clear their Technical Inspection

iv Within given time duration teams have to qualify TI using their both chances Its team own

responsibility to line up and qualify Technical Inspection

v Once the Kart passes the TI no modifications are allowed If any Kart found modified will be

disqualified

vi Teams should go through the entire check list in the TI sheets prior to final round to prevent

disqualifications



Note-If any team fails to qualify Technical Inspection by scrutineer then they can only participate in

static events but not in any of the dynamic events

E44c Weight Test

The weight of the Go-Kart should not exceed more than165 kg without driver It can be check by

putting all 4 wheels upon 4 weighting machines (each wheel on each weight machine) and adding

all displaying values from each weight machine Light weight Go-Kart will be awarded

Maximum point for Weight test is 100

E44d Design report Vs Manufactured Go-Kart

Objective The objective of the design event is to evaluate the engineering effort that went into the

design of the kart The teams are also checked on the basis of how the engineering meets the

intent of the market The kart that illustrates the best use of engineering to meet the design goals

and the best understanding of the design by the team members will win the Best Design Award

i In the design report to be submitted the document should contain abrief description of the Go-

Kart with the majority of the report specifically addressing only the engineering design features

and Go-Kart concepts new for this years event

ii It can also contain various analysis reports blue prints of self-manufactured parts and evidence

must be brought up for the Scrutineer to check

iii The Scrutineer will evaluate the engineering effort based upon the teamrsquos design report responses

to questions and an inspection of the kart The design Scrutineer will inspect the kart to determine

if the design concepts are adequate and appropriate for the application

iv Maximum Point for this round is 100

E44e B-Plan and Cost Analysis Presentation

i This is a presentation based round Each team has to prepare a presentation about how they can

market their Kart and how they are surveying the market for maximum profit if they

commercialize their Kart

ii They also have to submit their business plan report Each team will have 15 min for presentation

iii Presentation should not be more than 12 slides Best business plan award will be selected from

this round This round has 100 points

iv In this report the cost of the components used in the Go-Kart must be specified It is cross

checked with the Go-Kart to ensure every component and system is present The actual cost must

not vary with that in the report

E44f Innovation Round

i In this round scrutineer will check teamrsquos new ideas Judges may question anyone in the teams

regarding their Kartrsquos innovation

ii It is not a compulsory round however points from this round will be used to calculate the overall

winners Each award carries a maximum of 100 points



iii Since it is static round it will be held right after the technical inspection under the specified Pit

allotted to teams

iv Teams are advised to prepare separate reports for each of the awards so that it will be easy for the

scrutineer to evaluate

E46 Dynamic Events

E46a Brake Test

i All the Go-Karts have to pass the brake test to participate indynamic events The Go-Kart must

stop in a straight line after the brake is applied on the Go-Kart Each Go-Kart will be given 3

attempts to pass the brake test But in case if the Go-Kart passes the test in first attempt it will not

be given any other trials

ii Teams have to clear the braking test Brake Test does not have anypoints but it is mandatory for

the teams to qualify this round to participate in the dynamic round

E46b Acceleration Test

i The acceleration event evaluates the Go-Kartrsquos acceleration in a straight line on flat pavement

ii Procedure The karts will accelerate from a standing start over adistance of 50 m on a flat

surface The foremost part of the Go-Kart will be staged at exactly behind the starting line The

time taken to accelerate would be measured

iii Scoring The acceleration score is based upon the corrected elapsedtime Elapsed time will be

measured from the time the karts crosses the starting line until it crosses the finish line

iv Scoring formula Scoring formula 200 times [(TlongestndashTyours) (Tlongest- Tshortest)]

v Penalty Cones Down or Out (DOO) A two second (2 sec) penalty will be addedfor each DOO

(including entry and exit gate cones) that occurred on that particular run to give the corrected

elapsed time

vi Did Not Attempt (DNA) If the Go-Kart did not attempt or if it does notcomplete the event then

those teams would receive DNA

E46c Cross Pad

i In this round the Kart should be driven through a track specified by the organizers This round

checks the maneuverability of Kart to measure the Kartrsquos cornering ability on a flat surface while

making a constant-radius turn and driverrsquos skill

ii Cross Pad Layout- There will be two (2) pairs of concentric circles in afigure of eight pattern

The centers of these circles will be 13m apart The inner circles will be 10m in diameter and the

outer circles will be 16m in diameter The driving path will be the 3m (9842 feet) path between

the inner and outer circles The Go-Karts will enter and exit through gates on a 3 m wide path that

is tangential to the circles where they meet After completing 8 pattern shapes It (Kart) will pass

through a multiple movement on either side path where cones are placed in such a way that the

Kart will make sinusoidal wave pattern about cones without touching them There are 6 cones at a

distance of 3m each and 1 cone at a center of circle of radius 6 m Tyres will be placed as an



extreme stopping point at a distance of 10m from exit gate The path for cross pad is described in

the figure given below

iii Procedure-

The track is laid as shown above and the Go-Karts will enter the track perpendicular to the figure

eight They must take one full lap on the right circle to establish the turn and the Go-Kart must

move on to the left circle to complete the lap This completes one lap After that Kart have to

move for multiple movement on either side path and revolve about center cone Finally Kart will

move to the exit gate

Driver has to stop hisher kart within 10m after exit gate

A driver has the option to take a second run immediately after the first


NOTE Each team may make two (2) attempts but with different driversScoring will be based on

the better of the two attempts



v Penalties-

Cones Outtouch- A penalty of 1 second will be added to the timefor every cone that is

knocked outtouch (including gate cones)

Cone Down- A penalty of 2 second will be added to the timefor every cone that is knocked

down (including gate cones)

Missing cone- A penalty of 5 second will be added formissing a cone during multiple movement

on either side path and 10 sec for missing center cone

Unfinished- Go-Karts that has gone out of the track will continue aslong as they have not gone off

course will be classified as Unfinished

Incorrect Laps- Go-Karts that do not follow procedure ie run anincorrect number of laps or run

the Laps in the wrong sequence will also be classified as unfinished

Tyre touchhit- A penalty of 50 point will be added if driver donrsquot stop the kart within 10 m after

exit gate

Skit-A penalty of 50 point will be added if driver intentionally skitsdrift the kart after exit gate

E46d Endurance Round

i Objective The endurance event is designed to evaluate the Go-Kartrsquosoverall performance

reliability and efficiency Unlike fuel economy tests that result in Go-Karts going as slow as

possible in order to use the least amount of fuel IKR rewards the team that can cover a designated

distance on a fixed amount of fuel in least amount of time

ii Procedureamp Specifications

In general the team completing the laps in the shortest time will earn the maximum points

available for this event The endurance distance is approximately 10km (621 miles)

No Driver change is allowed during race

4 wheel to wheel racing is prohibited

Passing another Go-Kart may only be done in an established passing zone

Course speeds can be estimated by the following course specifications Average speed should be

around 45 kmhr (28 mph) with top speeds of approximately 70 kmhr

iii Race Track

Teams can see racing track with dimension on web site soon will be intimated through mail

iv Scoring formula 400times [(TlongestndashTyours) (Tlongest- Tshortest)]

v Fueling amp Charging

The organizer will not provide fuel (petrol) for only endurance round



Team should use a normal fuel which is available on public petrol pumps except endurance round

Teams are restricted to use any type of octane booster mixed with fuel

Organizer will provide fuel whose octane number range is between 95 and100

Before the beginning of the endurance event theGo-Kart fuel tank and any downstream fuel

accumulators eg carburetor float bowls will be drained The allocated amount of fuel will then

be added to the tank by the Steward and the filler will be sealed

After the end of race teams immediately have to take their kart to announced place where

scrutineer will check the use of fuel from fuel tank by adding fuel and measure it

This fuel for re filled will provide by teams to scrutineer

Amount of fuel refilled = Amount of fuel consumed

This will use for fuel economy test

i The fuel economy test is based on the average liters per kilometer fuel economy obtained during

the endurance heat

ii The Go-Kartrsquos fuel economy will be measured in conjunction with the endurance event The fuel

economy under racing conditions is important in most forms of racing and also shows how well

the Go-Kart has been tuned for the Challenge

iii This is an event where optimization is needed because the fuel economy score and endurance

score will be calculated from the same heat No refueling will be allowed during an endurance

heat

iv Scoring formula 200times [(Fmax ndashFyours) (Fmax - Fmin)]

E46f Inexperienced Driver

The Chief MarshalDirector of Operations may disqualify a driver if the driver is too slow too

aggressive or driving in a manner that in the sole opinion of the event officials demonstrates an

inability to properly control their Go-Kart This will result in a Did Not Finish (DNF) for the

event

E46g Endurance Go-Kart Restarting i The Go-Kart must be capable of restarting at all-time once the Go-Kart has begun the event

ii Marshal will assist if there is problem in engine starting No team members are allow on track

iii If a Go-Kart stops on the track 2 minutes will be given and if kart is not able to restart DNF will

be given

E46h Flags

There are two types of flags which are command flags ampInformational flags The command flags

command the teams and they must obey without any question while the informational flags give

us information to guide along the laps

i Command Flags

Black Flag - Pull into the penalty box for discussion with theDirector of Operations or other

official concerning an incident A time penalty may be assessed for such incident



Brown Flag - Pull into the penalty box for a mechanical inspectionof your Go-Kart something

has been observed that needs closer inspection

Blue Flag - Pull into the designated passing zone to be passed by afaster competitor or

competitors Obey the course marshalrsquos hand or flag signals at the end of the passing zone to

merge into competition

Checker Flag - Your segment has been completed Exit the courseat the first opportunity after

crossing the finish line

Green Flag - Your segment has started enter the course underdirection of the starter

Note If you are unable to enter the course when directed awaitanother green flag as the opening

in traffic may have closed

Red Flag - Come to an immediate safe controlled stop on the coursePull to the side of the course

as much as possible to keep the course open follow course marshalrsquos directions

Yellow Flag (Stationary) - Danger SLOW DOWN be prepared totake evasive action something

has happened beyond the flag station NO PASSING unless directed by the course marshals

Yellow Flag (Waved) - Great Danger SLOW DOWN evasiveaction is most likely required BE

PREPARED TO STOP something has happened beyond the flag station NO PASSING unless

directed by the course marshals

ii Informational Flags

Orange Flag - Something is on the racing surface that should not bethere Be prepared for evasive

maneuvers to avoid the situation (Course marshals may be able to point out what and where it is

located but do not expect it)

White Flag - There is a slow moving Go-Kart on the course that ismuch slower than you are Be

prepared to approach it at a cautious rate

E46i Endurance Penalties

The penalties in effect during theendurance event are listed below

i Cone down or out Five (5) seconds per cone This includescones before the start line and after

the finish line

ii Off Course (OC) For an off Course the driver must re-enter thetrack at or prior to the missed

gate or a twenty (20) second penalty will be assessed

iii Missed Slalom Missing one or more gates of a given slalomwill incur a twenty (20) second

penalty

iv Kart to Kart Contact

Bump

No matter with the reason and the intensity of the contact if any kart hits other kart following

cases will be applicable

(Case 1) If kart 2 hits kart 1 and if no breakage dent scratch occurs on any of the two kart then a

penalty of 20 points will be on team 2

(Case 2) If kart 2 hits kart 1 and breakage dent scratch occur on any of the two karts then both

teams will be disqualified from Endurance



Note- breakage dent scratch after hitting will check by marshal either on spot or after race

completes

Push out-If Kart 1 constricts the drivable section towards the outside line forcing Kart 2 to leave

the drivable section either partial or completely and if the Karts have touched each other or not in

both case a penalty of 20 sec will be added on kart 1

v Multiple movement on either side- If kart 1 found doing multiple movement on either side on

track stopping path of kart 2 and not let kart 2 to overtake In this case kart 1 will be disqualified

from Endurance

vi Short-cut- If Kart 2 leaves the track completely and returns to the track at a different section for

overtaking other kart or taking shortcut A penalty of 20 sec will be added on kart 2

vii Running Out of OrderA penalty of2 Minutes

E46j Driverrsquos Equipment

i Drivers Safety Gear The following are the minimum requirements and restrictions that

will be enforced through technical inspection at any stage of competition Noncompliance if

any observed by the inspectionorganizingjudging committee members must be corrected

and no Karts without passing the technical inspection would be allowed to participate

further in the event All the parts of Driverrsquos Safety Gear must meet the required rating

(specified) No driver would be allowed to drive the Kart without the complete driverrsquos

safety gear in any of the dynamic event

ii Driverrsquos Suit-A fire resistant one piece suit made from a minimum of 1 layer that covers

the body from the neck Down to the ankles and the wrists The suit must be certified to

either one of the Following standards and be labeled such as SFI 3- 2A1 (or higher) FIA

Standard 1986

iii Underclothing - It is strongly recommended that all drivers Wear fire resistant

underclothing (long pants and long sleeve t -shirt) under their approved driving suit This

fire resistant underclothing should be made from an acceptable fire resistant material and

should cover the driverrsquos body completely from neck down to ankles and also the wrists

Note If you do not wear fire resistant underclothing it is strongly recommended that you

wear cotton underclothing (t -shirt and long underpants) under your approved driving suit

iv Helmet-A well- fitting closed face helmet that meets one of the following certifications and

is labeled as such-Snell K2000 K2005 K2010 M2000 M2005 M2010 SFI 312A SFI

3112005-FIA 8860-2004 FIA 8860-2010 Open faced helmets are not allowed All

helmets to be used in the competition must be presented during Technical Inspection where

approved helmets will be sticker The organizer reserves the right to impound all non-

approved helmets until the end of the competition

v Balaclava-A balaclava which covers the driverrsquos head hair and neck made from an

acceptable fire resistant material (SFI Rated) as or a full helmet skirt of acceptable fire



resistant material The balaclava requirement applies to drivers of either gender with any

hair length

vi Neck Support-The neck support must be a full circle (360deg) and SFI rated Horseshoe

collars are not allowed Simpson RCI G Force Deist or Leaf Racing Products supply neck

collars that meet this requirement

vii Gloves- Fire resistant (SFI Rated) gloves made from made from acceptable fire resistant

material Gloves of all leather construction or fire resistant gloves constructed using leather

palms with no insulating fire resisting material underneath are not acceptable

viii Shoes-Fire resistant(SFI Rated) shoes made from acceptable fire resistant material shoes

must be certified to the standard and labeled as such SFI 33 FIA 8856-2000

Note Sport shoesCanvas shoesLeather shoesIndustrial safety shoes are not allowed at

any point of the event

ix Shocks- Fire resistant (SFI Rated) socks made from acceptable fire resistant material which

covers the bare skin between the driverrsquos suit and the boots or shoes

x Teams Must follow all the points as above mentioned we will not allowed any teams in

dynamic round without complete safety gears at any cost

E46k Other Safety Requirement

Gloves The separate gloves are also required for mechanical performance ie welding

cutting

First aid box Every team must have their own first aid box to be used in emergency during

the dynamic round

Goggles Every team should have their own goggles to use during welding

Fire Extinguishers Each team must have at least two (2) Fires extinguisher of 1kgOne

should be kept at driver section and other should be along with team member

F2 Rules authority

All the authority of rules is under ISIE organizing Committee Official announcements from ISIE

Organizing Committee will be considered part of rules and have the same validity Query

regarding event questions ISIE-IKR RULES amp REGULATION 2017 wwwimperialsocietyin

concerning the meaning or intent of these rules will be resolved by the Technical committee of

ISIE

F3 Rules authenticity

The rules and other information related to events is valid to till completion of the event and

schedule as per decided by the ISIE Rule of other may be different

F4 Rules compliance

By entering through registration in an ISIE International level competition the team members

team advisors and other personnel of the entering organization agree to comply with and be

bound by the rules and all rules interpretations or procedure issued or announced by ISIE

Organizing Committee All team members team advisors and other representatives are required

to cooperate with and follow all instructions from organizing committee and scrutineers

F5 Understanding the rules

Teams team members as individuals and team advisors are responsible for reading and

understanding the rules in effect for the competition in which they are participating



F6 participating in the competition

Teams team members as individuals team advisors and other representatives of a registered

organization who are present on-site at a competition are considered to be ldquoparticipating in the

competitionrdquo from the time they arrive at the site until they depart the site at the conclusion of

the competition or earlier by withdrawing

F7 Right to Impound

During the event any registered team can be called for technical inspection and examination at

any point of time and stage and can be questioned for any technical element related to the Kart

during the event to any team member

F8 Restriction of Kart use

Teams are cautioned that the kart designed by the team is restricted to operate at the event place

It is operated at the time of competition only

F9 Behavior

All the members of each and every team must follow the rules laid by ISIE during the

competition Any memberrsquos failure to follow the rules will result in 20 point reduction or

elimination from the event Arguments with officials may also result in the team being

eliminated from event

i Smoking and Illegal Material Alcohol illegal drugs weapons or other illegal material

are strictly not allowed on the event site during the competition This rule will be in effect

during the entire competition

ii Unsportsmanlike Conduct In the event of unsportsmanlike conduct the team will

receive a warning from an official A second violation will result in expulsion of the team

from the competition

iii Official Instructions Failure of a team member to follow an instruction or command

directed specifically to that team or team member will result in a twenty five (25) point

penalty

iv Arguments with Officials Argument with or disobedience to any official may result in

the team being eliminated from the competition All members of the team may be

immediately escorted from the grounds

v Parties Disruptive parties either on or off-site should be prevented by the Team Advisor

vi Safety of tools Teams will be responsible for all their tools equipment and Component

ISIE will not be responsible for any kind of losses or damage



F10 Violation Intent

Any violation of this rule by a team member will cause the expulsion of the entire ISIE-IKR

RULES amp REGULATION 2017 wwwimperialsocietyin team This applies to both team

members and team advisors Any use of drugs or the use of alcohol by an underage individual

will be reported to the authorities for prosecution

F11 Competition Objective ndash A Reminder

The IKR event being organized by ISIE is a challenge of design engineering and

manufacturing competition that requires performance demonstration of Hybrid and

Electric Karts and is NOT a race Engineering ethics will apply

It is ISIE- IKR RULES amp REGULATION 2017 wwwimperialsocietyin recognized that

lots of hard work has been put in by the teams for an entry into IKR Event

It is also recognized that this event is an ldquoinnovation enhancement experiencerdquo but that it

often times becomes confused with a high stakes race In the heat of competition

emotions peak and disputes arise

The officials of ISIE are trained volunteers and maximum effort will be put in to settle

the disputes an equitable professional manner

F12 General Authority

ISIE and the competition organizing bodies reserves the right to revise the schedule of any

competition andor interpret or modify the competition rules at any time and in any manner that

is in their sole judgment required for the efficient operation of the event or the IKR series as a

whole
