ISO 13485:2003

ISO 13485/13488 is a quality standard for organizations that design, develop,

produce or service medical devices. It is intended to promote harmonization in

the medical device industry and set a basis for quality system regulations world-

wide. It includes specific requirements for medical devices and excludes some

of the requirements of ISO 9001 that are not appropriate to the medical device

industry. All requirements of ISO 13485/134588 are specific to organizations

providing medical devices, regardless of the type or size of the organization.

Benefits of ISO 13485

CE Marking

The CE Mark, which is affixed to a product or its packaging, is consid-

ered proof that a product has met the requirements of the harmonized

European standard, or directive. The European Commission, which ad-

ministers the program, describes the CE Mark as a PASSPORT for goods

to be sold freely within the internal European market. CE marking on a

product indicates to all authorities that the product is in compliance with

the essential health and safety requirements of all directives that apply to

the product. We have arrangements (Tie up) for both notified & non-

notified certificates.

» The EU introduced the CE marking scheme to make trade easier and cheaper between EU countries.

» Often customers will look for CE marking on a product as an indication of conformance to laid down minimum standards, and therefore

a minimum level of quality that other products may lack.
