Affiliates,
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the promise that Nancy G. Brinker made to her sister Susan G.
Komen. That promise launched the global breast cancer movement through Susan G. Komen for the
Cure®, uniting millions around the world in a grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists
fighting for the cures. To commemorate the anniversary, we are creating unique opportunities to touch
more lives than ever before on a global scale. As a Komen for the Cure Affiliate, you play a critical role
in this initiative.
From October 25 – 29, 2010, we are gathering supporters, advocates, survivors and scientists from every
corner of the world to join us in Jerusalem, Israel as part of a historic Breast Cancer Collaborative calling
attention to the global breast cancer crisis. As an Affiliate, you are invited to leverage this revenue
sharing opportunity by engaging donors and key supporters in your service area who may find
serving as a Komen Mission Delegate to Israel for events including the first Susan G. Komen Israel Race
for the Cure® incredibly meaningful.
On Affiliate Corner you will find a complete Israel Mission Delegation toolkit that contains more
information about these events and tools to help you promote them to your donors. More specifically, the
toolkit includes details and pricing for three Mission Delegation experiences, a letter template to send to
potential Delegates and a printable brochure to provide interested donors with more information.
The funds raised from each Mission Delegation package include a donation to support the mission of our
organization. Komen remains committed to strengthening and enabling the Affiliate Network; thus, 25
percent of the donation portion of the package raised by your Delegation recruitment efforts will be
returned to your service area. Of the remaining donation, 50 percent will be restricted to the Global
Promise Fund for breast cancer programs and research in Israel and 25 percent will benefit the Susan G.
Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Program.
In addition to fundraising opportunities, successful Mission Delegation recruitment efforts are rewarded
with an opportunity to participate as a Delegate in the Israel trip. Recruitment of 20 Delegates will
provide one individual package for the Mission in a shared room, and recruiting 40 Delegates will provide
two individual packages with one room provided for the two individuals. So, in other words, the more
packages your Affiliate sells, the greater the opportunity for someone in your Affiliate to secure a free
package. And, the two Affiliates who recruit the most Delegates will receive a bonus of $10K for first
place and $5K for second place.

This is an unprecedented opportunity to engage your constituents in the Israel Mission Delegation and
cultivate key supporters by offering them a rare experience to journey beyond the local community and
play an integral role in the global movement against breast cancer. Visit Affiliate Corner and download
the toolkit today!
Thank you again for your support and leadership in achieving a world without breast cancer. Together, we
will make our efforts in Israel a milestone in the movement.
Sincerely,

One generation after the promise that Ambassador Brinker made to her sister, Susan G. Komen for the
Cure® has invested $450 million in breast cancer research and $900 million in outreach to ensure access
to quality education, screening and treatment. Globally, Komen for the Cure has collaborated with more
than 150 non-governmental organizations across five continents who are now working to develop
sustainable and strategic responses to the local affects of breast cancer.
It’s with this rich history in mind that we have chosen a historic place of significance to expand Susan G.
Komen for the Cure’s global collaborative efforts. In Israel, breast cancer is the most common form of
cancer among women, accounting for nearly 30 percent of all new cancer cases. The incidence of breast
cancer has been rising steadily over the past 25 years with approximately 4,000 new cases diagnosed
every year. For more than a decade, Komen for the Cure has supported programs in Israel, including more
than $2 million in research and community outreach grants to institutions and non-governmental
organizations empowering women and fighting for a cure.
Due to Israel’s high breast cancer rates, Komen will work collaboratively with Israel non-governmental
organization partners to create connectivity among all levels of society and heighten awareness of breast
cancer. In October 2010, Komen for the Cure and its local partners will unite to bring advocates from
every corner of the globe together in Jerusalem to launch the Israel Breast Cancer Collaborative.
The Collaborative will be established to achieve the following goals:
Foster an inclusive global breast cancer community — Uniting participants around the common goal
of curing breast cancer, irrespective of cultural or geographic boundaries.
Identify and support emerging bio-technology solutions — Enabling us to quickly advance screening
and treatment options for women around the world, particularly in rural areas and developing countries.
Raise funds to support Komen for the Cure’s global mission — Providing for mission related
community outreach in Israel and areas in need beyond its borders.
The Collaborative launch includes a series of events to be held in Jerusalem that engages global advocates
and energizes the global scientific community:

Held just outside the walls of Old Jerusalem, the first-ever
Susan G. Komen Israel Race for the Cure 5K will be held
on October 28 and will serve as a rallying cry for advocates,
survivors and supporters to unite behind the common goal
of curing breast cancer. This public demonstration of unity
to end a disease that affects all people is a unique and
established model for encouraging peaceful global health
diplomacy and promoting breast cancer awareness around
the world.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure will host an Israel Mission Delegation of philanthropists, dignitaries,
survivors and activists to serve as mission Ambassadors, igniting the breast cancer movement in the
remarkable and historic city of Jerusalem. Delegates will participate in the Collaborative launch events,
and play an integral role in ensuring the sustainability of the research and outreach which will develop
from the Collaborative efforts.
—
In Israel in fall 2010, Susan G. Komen for the Cure will convene approximately 100 notable thought
leaders from around the globe to explore how advances in bio-technology can transform early detection,
risk stratification and risk assessment. Think Tank invitees, including physicists, nanotechnology experts,
bio-engineers, imagers, prevention experts and oncologists, will be asked to prepare brief proposals that
illustrate the development of an innovative approach to early detection. Seed grants, in the amount of
$25,000 to $50,000, will be awarded in support of the most novel ideas. The meeting will result in a white
paper outlining research opportunities, the state of the science, and a request for applications to further
explore a major research initiative in this area.
Affiliates may raise funds through recruitment of Mission Delegates from their constituents. This is a rare
opportunity to engage key constituents and fundraisers in leading this exciting and meaningful journey to
form a united global front in ending breast cancer.
There are three Israel Mission Delegation packages experiences available ranging in price from $4,240 to
$13,244 per person (USD). Funds raised from each Mission Delegation package include a donation to
support the mission of our organization. For example, a single Delegate package at $4,240 includes a tax-

deductible donation of $1,800. Donations are 25 percent of the package price, so larger packages generate
a greater donation to Komen. More details on Delegation package pricing and tour experiences can be
found on page 9.
Komen remains committed to strengthening and enabling the Affiliate Network; thus:
25 percent of the donation portion of the package raised by Affiliate Delegation recruitment
efforts will be returned to the recruiting Affiliate to use in their service area.
50 percent will be restricted to the Global Promise Fund for breast cancer programs and research
in Israel
25 percent will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Program.
Note: During the registration process, Delegates will have an opportunity to select from a listing of Susan
G. Komen for the Cure Affiliates to ensure that local donations are directed appropriately.
In addition to donations received from Delegate package recruitment efforts, any Affiliate who recruits 20
Delegates will receive credit of one individual Delegate package including a shared room (1/2 room, one
person). For every 40 delegation packages, the Affiliate will receive two individual packages which
include one room (one room to be shared by the two people). There is no limit to the number of free
packages an Affiliate can earn and packages can be transferred to any individual as identified by the
Affiliate Executive Director.
To provide further incentive to secure Delegates, the two Affiliates who recruit the most Delegation
packages will receive a bonus donation. The top recruiting Affiliate will receive a $10K bonus and the
second place Affiliate will receive a $5K bonus
Breast cancer knows no borders or boundaries; it has no respect for race, creed or religion. Komen for the
Cure leadership demonstrates that it will take a global network of committed individuals and
organizations working together to quickly realize the dream of ending breast cancer forever. We hope
your constituents will join Komen for the Cure as Israel Mission Delegates.

To make an impact and achieve sustainability, the Israel
Breast Cancer Collaborative will require an
unprecedented level of interreligious collaboration and
governmental support. Susan G. Komen for the Cure®
will host an Israel Mission Delegation of philanthropists,
dignitaries, survivors and activists to serve as mission
Ambassadors who provide an international community of support for the men and women in Israel
committed to removing barriers that prevent quality care for all in need.
This Delegation of mission Ambassadors will join Komen leaders in Jerusalem the week of October 25,
2010 to participate in the launch of our global Breast Cancer Collaborative efforts in Israel. Together, we
will ignite a movement and make international headlines as thousands walk united in hope for a future
without breast cancer, just outside the Old City walls, in the first-ever Susan G. Komen Israel Race for the
Cure®. During the journey, Delegates will visit Komen grantees and learn directly from Israeli dignitaries
about the burden of cancer on local families.
Among an itinerary of meaningful mission activities, Komen Delegates will have many opportunities to
be captivated by the old world charm, culture and heritage of this ancient city considered holy to three of
the world’s major religions. They can expect to visit revered shrines like the Western Wall, dine with
high-ranking Israeli public officials at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence, and be enchanted by the rhythm
of darbukas and drums while watching the sunset over the Judean Desert.
Komen Delegates can choose from three experiential package levels that correspond with hotel
accommodations, tour options and engagement at mission activities.
