Callouts:We have been extremely busy, breaking all our re-cords in January with 79 callouts! This was up 18call outs on last January. A huge thank you to all ouramazing volunteers for the enormous amount ofhours they have put in. We have also been verybusy with events, and I would like to say a specialthank you to Trevor Brljevich and Paddy and LenDunn for always being so willing to attend these.
Order of St John AwardsTwo of our members have been honoured when theannual Order of St John awards were announced. This is quite a coup for our station, as only six peoplein Northland were recognised.
Patricia Hosford has been made an Officer of the Or-der of St John. Pat has been a volunteer at Maunga-
turoto for 17 years, and has made an enormous con-tribution to our station. She was the station managerfrom 2002 until 2007, and dedicates many, many vol-unteer hours in her roll as an ambulance officer. Shewas made a Serving Sister in 2004, and this latestaward promotes her to Officer. Pat comes from adedicated St John family. Her late father Georgewas a founding member of our station, and went onto become Superintendant from 1968 to 1980. Hermother Maude has also been very involved withMaungaturoto Station. She joined the subcommitteein 1979 and became treasurer of the Otamatea Area
Committee in 1982. Until her retirement last year, she had been the area committee Chairperson for 25years. Maude is also an Officer Sister, and is nowthe Patron of Maungaturoto Station. Pats husbandColin was a member of the Otamatea Area Commit-tee. Thank you Colin it would be very difficult forPat to be such a wonderful volunteer without the sup-port of her husband and family.
Our Station Manager Stephen Rosser has beenmade an Order Member. Stephen joined Maunga-turoto station in 1976. He was appointed stationmanager in 2007, and is now a full time paramedic. As well as his paid position, Stephen also puts inmany volunteer hours to enable our ambulance to be
double crewed 24/7. Stephen is also very involvedwith other volunteer work. He organizes funding andteams to travel to remote outer islands of Vanuatu toinstall water tanks and spouting to enable villages tohave clean water supplies. Pretty amazing stuff!!Stephen also come from a family very involved withMaungaturoto Ambulance Station. His Dad Vic hasbeen a volunteer Ambulance Officer since 1963, andis still going strong! Vic was Divisional Manager from1993 until 2001, and is an Officer Brother of the Or-der of St John. His Mum Elaine was a volunteer Am-bulance Officer for 15 years. Thank you also to Ruthand Stephens family I know it is not always easybeing family of a volunteer.
What an amazing contribution to our communitythese two families have made. Our warmest congratulations to you both - we are allvery proud you of Pat and Stephen.
Staff NewsOur congratulations also to Kevin Haigh who has re-cently gained his National Diploma, and is now a fullyqualified Ambulance Officer. Kevin is a St John firstaid tutor in Whangarei, and we are fortunate enoughto have him and his wife Denise living in our area, where Kevin is one of our wonderful volunteers.
