31 weeks to go

Friday 3rd December Tonight!

Christmas Fair 6 pm-8 pm (Hall)50p Adults Accompanied Children Free

On Friday 26th November Year 6 was transformed into a temporary exhibition arena as the children proudly displayed their completed projects

and models. Earlier in the term Mr Postlethwaite and Mrs Coleman had set the children a research project. The children had to find out all about either volcanoes, rockets or fireworks. Once they had researched their

chosen topic, they had to present their finding and construct a model.

The standard of all the models was exceptional and Mr Dumbell spent almost two hours judging the best model. After careful consideration he

chose three winners; in first place was Jack Wallbank’s volcano, Abbie Wilson’s volcano was awarded second place and Jake Hawking’s volcano

came in a close third.

Mr Postlethwaite and Mrs Coleman also judged the children’s projects

based on the presentation and completion of their booklets, their knowledge and understanding and the quality of their models. The overall winner in 6P was Caitlin Healy for her project on the Apollo Space Rocket

and 6C’s overall winner was Lucy James’ volcano project. All the winners have received a Tesco gift voucher.

For photographs of all the models see the Year 6 area of the school

Parking during Christmas ProductionsPlease do not park over anyone’s drive when coming to your child’s Christmas play. Neighbours will

ring the office, give your registration number and you will need to move your car urgently. This would result in you missing some of the performance. To avoid this and any embarrassment, please park your car with consideration. Please remind other family members if they are coming too. There

is an unofficial one way system in operation in the crescent entering from Meols Cop end and exiting from Roe Lane end.

as the prize for winning the recent Bake Sale Competition.

Important last week of term information(13th-17th December)

There will be no after school activities in the last week of term.

As we are coming to the end of the Term

Remember to pass on useful information such as holiday dates and finishing times to child-minders, grandparents and to any other carer

involved in escorting your children to/from school.

Let them read your copy of the newsletters.

Ear PiercingIf your child is going to have their ears pierced

during the holiday, please remember they will need to learn how to

remove them or put plasters over them for during

PE lessons.

Dogs

Please remember dogs (except guide dogs) are not allowed on any part of the premises.

Good Mornings

It is important for children to have a good start to their day. Children need to be in their classroom before 8.55 am to get

their mark in the register.

Children arriving after 8.55 am will receive a ‘late’ mark. As you will imagine children can feel embarrassed when they are

late.

Any child arriving after the classroom doors have been closed must come into school via the office and let the staff know they

have arrived. After 8.55 am the class register and the dinner registers will

have been sent to the office so it is vital that we know your child has arrived here in school. We appreciate there are issues with

parking in the crescent

so please remember to make a special effort to leave home a little earlier.

What a responsibility! Daniel checking the soup for poison!

On Thursday 25th November, Year 4, dressed in their best Tudor finery, eagerly awaited the arrival of King Henry V111.

As he entered, he was welcomed to a fanfare of drums, cymbals and bells by

his loyal Norwood subjects.

King Henry gave the children a rare insight into the daily life of Hampton Court and patiently listened to and answered their

questions. Disappointed by Hans Holbein’s portrait of his

fourth wife, Henry commissioned Year 4 to draw sketches of him to hang on the walls in the Great Hall.

Prior to the visit, soup was prepared in the kitchen (actually Year 4 central area) in case the King was hungry. Daniel

Mercer-Jones, the King’s official servant and taster, checked that the soup hadn’t been poisoned. Fortunately he lived to tell

the tale.

Royal Visitor

As part of their extended Tudor Homework Year 4 were asked to make a Tudor model, draw sketches of their

design, write a diary and prepare a short presentation. The response was overwhelming. Amongst the models

were, knights in shining armour with swords, shields and

daggers, Tudor mansions, cottages and even streets. Castles made from wood, card, paper with draw bridges and flags and peg dolls dressed in costume. There were

gory executions, a knot garden and even a replica of the Mary Rose, to name but a few.

Parents were invited after school to view the models and celebrate the hard work of the children.

Models, Models and More Models!

Morrisons Vouchers

Well done Norwood! 2,800 vouchers

were collected. Fantastic

Getting to know our Governors

Shinewaves Competition Time

Our reporters have recently tracked down our very busy governors to ask them about their roles.

Pictured here is Mrs Knight, our Chair of Governors, with Jamie from our news team.

Q. Do you like your job as a Governor and what do you enjoy the most? (Jamie Russell Y4 and Hannah Tear Y5)

A. Yes I love my my job as a Governor, I like the fact that I can come into school, spend time in a class and get

involved in school life.

Q. Have any of your family ever been to this school and if so did they enjoy it? (Molly Glinn Y6)

A.Yes I have 2 children who both came to Norwood and they really enjoyed their time at school

Q. How much of your time is taken up by being a Governor? (Finn Cromack Y3)

A. I try and do as much as I can as a Governor but I also work in the office at Leyland Road Methodist Church.

Reverend Knight is very generous and lets me play out! (He is a very nice man really!!)

Design a Christmas Card Competition

Prize also given to the winning pupil.Entries must be handed into The Champion

Newspaper

by Lunchtime Friday 10th December 2010

The winner will be announced at 2pm on Sunday 12th

December 2010 outside Lord’s Cafe Bar on Lord Street, Southport.

Last week’s competition was to create your own book cover for one of the Narnia stories and the winner is Isobel Mills 3K.

Congratulations

As it is National Tree Week, this week’s competition is to decorate a tree. The only rule is that it can’t be a Christmas

Tree. You can decorate a real tree in your garden and submit a photograph, draw a tree with decorations, or download a tree

sheet from the ‘Nature Detectives’ website and add collage decorations. Remember the decorations don’t have to be

sparkly, be as unusual as you want!

Pop your entries in the competition post box, outside the hall, by the morning of Wednesday 8th December with your name

Children in Need

Year 6 children with Mrs Goulden produced these lovely boards for Asda's Children in Need Day. (They were on display in Asda in the main trolley bay) The School Council would like to say a very, very big thank you to everyone for the wonderful

way you have supported this appeal. The baking day in school and the scrumptious designer Pudsey Bear biscuits you

made for the biscuit sale, enabled us to present a cheque for the amazing amount of £452.We also had a super response to the collection of unwanted clothes, as over 115 bags were collected and delivered to Asda.

Thank you for your extreme generosity.

Norwood have supported Children in Need by baking

cakes and biscuits. Pictured here are the School

Council handing the £452

Pudsey Visits Norwood

Last Saturday Norwood Singing Club started their annual festive tour by wowing Birkdale village

with a selection of Christmas songs both old and new. They got the loudest cheer of the day- all

their hard work has obviously paid off! We would

like to thank the Mums and Dads for giving up time at the weekend to support them. The

children will be continuing their tour at tonight's

Christmas Fair followed by a trip to Tesco's to spread some festive cheer.
