CACD were look- ing into the possibility of es- tablishing a men’s shed and selected this shed as an ex- ample of how the concept works. On arrival we were given a demonstration on how to divine for water. We then had the traditional welcome cup of tea and scones, as well as some homemade porridge bread from the Shed’s very own baker. Fol- lowing a tour of the facility the group had an opportunity to chat and ask questions about how the place works and to meet individ- ual members on a one to one basis. The men take part in wood- working, wood carving, furniture restoration, gardening, computers and internet, basic repairs and outings. All had lunch in a local hotel where further networking occurred. Following on from previous consultations County Armagh Com- munity Development will be hosting further consultations on Brexit. The aim of the discussions are to air peoples hopes and reservations about Brexit. The next 2 consultation events are: Monday 5th February, Tullyvallen Orange Hall at 8.15pm Monday 19th February Edenderry Orange Hall at 7.30pm Please feel free to come along an participate in the discussion. This project is funded by the CFNI. CACD are hosting Event Marshalling/Parade Marshalling in Carleton St Orange Hall, Portadown at 7pm on the 21st & 27 th February. DAERA’s recent consultation “Briefing on Northern Ireland Budg- etary Outlook 2018-20” proposes cuts that if were to come into effect would undoubtedly result in all funding from DAERA to Ru- ral Community Development support under their Targeting Rural Poverty and Social Isolation Programme coming to a stop in March. With this it has the potential closure of rural support net- work organisations including us at County Armagh Community Development. We would like to thank everyone who responded on our behalf to this consultation.

County Armagh Community Development arranged an explority visit to Monaghan Men’s Shed, who aim to pro-vide a safe, alcohol free place for men of all ages to meet and share their skills in a friendly and leisurely envi-ronment. CACD were look-ing into the possibility of es-tablishing a men’s shed and selected this shed as an ex-ample of how the concept works. Corkley Development Association in-vites you to their annual Beetle Drive in Corkley Orange Hall. This will be on Fri-day 23rd February at 8.00pm.

Cladymore Friendship Group continue to meet every other Wednesday morning at 10am - 11.30am. On the 14th February Tom Canning will speak about bee keeping and on the 28th February Lewis Singleton will speak about legal issues and how to write a will. Everyone welcome.

Aughlish Ulster Scots Group Scarva held their annual tribute and commemoration of the life and work of Scotland's National Bard Robert Burns on 25th January. In addition to an illustrated talk on the life of Burns those in attendance heard readings from his poems as well as works by local poets who were influ-enced by Burns. Music was provided by Ryan Gilmore, Pipe Major of Tyrones Ditches Pipe Band and the evening ended with the traditional fare of Tatties Neeps and Haggis.

Poyntzpass Silver Band are holding their annual table quiz in the local Community Hall on Wednesday 14th February at 8pm. The quiz master is Cyril Whiteside and there will be refreshments during the evening and a prize raffle.

The members of Poyntzpass Royal British Legion are holding their annual table quiz on Wednesday 18th February in the Poyntzpass Royal British Legion Hall. Quizzing will start at 8pm and the evening will include a prize raffle and some light refreshments. Everyone will be made most welcome.

SOAR (ABC) has been appointed in Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area to im-plement the LEADER element of the NI Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. They are now open for Expressions of Interest (EoIs) for project proposals under the following measures. Rural Basic Services: This measure is aimed at supporting the provision of improvements in social infrastructure that will provide access to basic services which are an integral part of and in line with the Council Community Plan and emerging priorities. The project must fit in with the theme of Innovative Service Delivery and allow a num-ber of services to be delivered to the community. Grants are available up to £250,000 dependant on type of project at a rate of 75% of eligible costs. Eligible Applicants: Council, Community / Voluntary Sector or Strategic Public Bodies. Rural Business Investment Scheme: This measure is aimed at supporting and encouraging the development of non-agricultural activities in rural areas for all new and existing micro and small enterprises. Grants are available for marketing up to £5000 and capital up to £90,000 (dependant on type of business and level of job creation) at a rate of 50% of eligible costs. Eligible Applicants - Private individuals 18 or older in a rural area, Micro enterprises (less than 10 employees), Small enterprises (10-49 employees), Social Economy Enterprises. Expression of Interests, which can be found on our website - www.soarni.org must be submitted by Monday 5th February 2018.
