As one of Britain's foremost social media experts, Andrew Davis has trained teams at Saatchi, Ogilvy, Blackberry, MTV and the Premier League. He is also part of Doug Richards' School for Start Ups, advising on digital strategy.
Andrew started his career by running chat rooms for Pop Idol in the early days of reality TV talent shows. He also worked on Friends Reunited, before joining the BBC to help launch the digital urban music station, Radio 1Xtra. He then played a leading role in propelling MySpace from one to ten million UK users in under a year; Andrew was responsible for building the brand - including community development, content and digital marketing.
During his Presentation Andrew will explain how social media is evolving and what it means for business. Taking music and entertainment as a precedent and a common theme, he explains how to keep the conversation going. He also asks "So what?" - underlining the need to make each aspect of your digital strategy work alongside traditional business building, marketing and branding. A visiting lecturer at Goldsmiths College, Andrew Davis also designed the first social media course linked to GCSE English. He featured in Media Week's 30 Under 30, and The Guardian's report on the top ethnic minority contributors to British media. Adrian Webster Customer Service - Putting customers at the heart of everything we do
Adrian is probably the most entertaining and effective motivational speaker in the UK. He specialises in delivering key messages in a humorous and completely unique, down to earth style that audiences can easily relate to. His addictively inspirational presentations help people at all levels and from diverse backgrounds to make a very real difference in their workplace.
Adrian started off his colourful career as a Police Officer in St. Pauls, Bristol. He left shortly after the St. Paul’s riots to go ‘back to school’ and ended up becoming President of Southampton Students Drama. Fed up with being a poor student, he spent the next four years building up a dairy company by knocking on thousands of doors and persuading households and local shops to buy his milk. Having established the dairy business he worked as, amongst many other things, a radio presenter on local radio in Bristol. To help ‘fund’ his career, Adrian started selling a wide range of products, ranging from frozen food to houses. He quickly discovered he could make some real money in sales and began to take selling seriously, the part time sales side soon took over as his full time career.
In 1987 he moved into I.T sales and by 1989 he had established himself as one of the most successful sales professionals in the industry. After two highly successful years as Corporate Sales Manager of US Robotics, he joined Northamber Plc an I.T Distributor as Group Sales and Training Manager responsible for recruiting, training, motivating and ‘driving’ 150 staff to achieve phenomenal success on shoestring budgets. It was during this time, out of pure necessity to inspire and retain staff Adrian discovered an ability to turn teams of everyday people with little or no ability into some of the most productive in the I.T industry.
In 2010 Adrian followed in the footsteps of Sir Richard Branson, Kofi Annan, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Rudy Giuliani, Al Gore and Stelios Haji-Ioannou by addressing business leaders alongside former Prime Minister Tony Blair at the 2010 Swiss Economic Forum in Interlaken. He has also delivered presentations for numerous leading companies, which include; BT PLC, Thomson Airways, AXA PPP, IBM, UBS, Siemens and DHL Freight to name just a few.

Employment legislation update
Managing a business and keeping up to date with employment law updates is a tricky business, and if
you get it wrong a very costly one. In this article we will be providing an update into what’s changing in
employment legislation and some general guidance on what your business should have in place.
Portable DBS checks introduced
17 June 2013
Once a Disclosure and Barring Service (previously Criminal
Records Bureau) check has been conducted, the results will be
available online to enable employers to confirm that no new
information has been added since the check was originally made.
This means that an employee will not have to obtain a new check
each time he or she starts a new job.
Fees for tribunal claims introduced
29 July 2013
Claimants who issue a claim against their employer in the employment tribunal are required to pay a
fee. There are two levels of claim, depending on the complexity of the case, set out in the
draft Employment Tribunals and the Employment Appeal Tribunal Fees Order 2013 (on the UK
legislation website). The claimant pays an initial fee to issue a claim and a further fee if the claim
proceeds to a hearing. The tribunal may order the fees to be repaid to the claimant if he or she is
successful with his or her claim. Fees are also payable for appeals submitted to the Employment
Appeal Tribunal.
Compensatory award limit for unfair dismissal amended
Summer 2013
The Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act 2013 gives the Secretary of State the power to amend the
maximum amount of the unfair dismissal compensatory award. The Act prescribes that the amount may
be no less than the median annual earnings and no more than three times the median annual earnings,
or no less than 52 times the claimant's weekly pay. In January 2013, the Government announced that it
will introduce an individual cap of 12 months' pay, which will apply where this amount is less than the
overall cap.
Remember that contracts of employment must be signed and given out within 3 months of the
employee commencing and if you employ over 5 people you must have a health & safety policy in
place.

HM Revenue and Customs: Key June Updates
Real Time Information (RTI): over a million employers are now reporting PAYE in real time
Since RTI started on 6 April, over a million employers have successfully started to report PAYE in real
time. Unless notified otherwise, employers are now required by law to report PAYE electronically in real
time every time they pay their employees. If you were due to start reporting PAYE in real time from 6
April 2013 but haven’t yet started, you should do so now. All the information you need to get going is
here: http://bit.ly/14dV4qi
The date you need to pay HMRC hasn’t changed, so many employers should have made their first
payment of PAYE/NIC by 19/22 May. If you haven’t paid yet, or sent your Full Payment Submission
and/or Employer Payment Summary (even if you haven’t paid anyone), have a look at this guidance:
http://bit.ly/116AGpg . If you no longer have any employees, please let us know.
Expenses and Benefits online forms
Would you like to submit your end of year expenses and benefits details online? If so a range of forms
( http://bit.ly/11GsEt7 ) will be available in June, ahead of the P11D filing date of 6 July, to enable you or
your agent to do this. If you would like to apply for a dispensation from having to report expenses and
benefits payments, have a look at our guidance ( http://bit.ly/14dVHjA ).
Toolkits to help avoid common errors
Updated toolkits ( http://bit.ly/10MR5jK ) are available to provide guidance on how to avoid some of the
more common errors made in returns and set out the steps that you can take to reduce those errors.
Simpler Income Tax - cash basis and simplified expenses
HMRC have introduced two new schemes called ‘cash basis’ and ‘simplified expenses’ to help small
businesses. To help you decide if either scheme is right for you, you might like to watch the two new
videos on cash basis and simplified expenses. We have a short ( http://bit.ly/137L9oq ) one giving an
overview of the schemes, and a longer, more detailed look ( http://bit.ly/12TnOoL ).
We also have a range of webinars ( http://bit.ly/Zy0WyC ), both live and recorded, to help people new to
business; and, from June, you can participate in our live webinar “How to complete your 2012-13
Online Tax Return”: http://bit.ly/15iXhDY
Tax deadlines

Do you bring vehicles into the UK from abroad?
If you do, you might want to have a look at HMRC’s new online service, Notification of Vehicle Arrivals
(NOVA): http://bit.ly/ZiyfU1 . This service makes it easier and quicker to tell HMRC about vehicles
brought permanently into the UK; you will receive an immediate acknowledgement from HMRC and a
calculation of any VAT that may be due, which has to be paid or
accounted for (depending on whether the vehicle was bought
outside or inside the EU) before the vehicle can be registered
and licensed with the DVLA.
