My tunes: MusiC that shaped My life

Former Carolwood East regional Stephanie Keshe (615-418-3519 or [email protected]) discusses her most important songs, artists or concerts: 1. Etta James, Wildhorse Saloon 2008: If you haven’t seen her live, you simply must. She is a legend. I just felt like I was watching something truly special, like watching history being made. 2. WMJI/Cleveland’s Summer Concert,

Blossom, early ‘90s: I was probably only nine or 10, but my mom had me hooked on oldies. This show had Jay & The Americans, Lesley Gore and so many others. I talked my way backstage by myself and got autographed 8x10s from the artists and, what I thought was even cooler, the DJs! I still have them! 3. Rascal Flatts, Blossom in Cleveland, 2008: This is the first concert that I was able to take my family to since working in the bid-ness. When I told my seven-year-old niece we were going to the meet-n-greet she was incredulous, saying “I’m going to meet the guys that will sing on the stage?” So cool to share these great experiences with loved ones. 4. Blake Shelton, CRS, suite performance, 2004: I was very new in Nashville, just a server at Longhorn and, with some co-workers, snuck into all the parties at the Renaissance. Somehow, I ended up in the WBR suite. Blake was a huge star to me, so to sit five feet away from him while he sang his hits, I finally felt like I was really in Nashville. 5. Brady Bunch/It’s A Sunshine Day: I’m not kidding. I know every word to every song and a few “official” dances to go with ‘em. If anyone has a lead on where I might get this on vinyl, please contact me. • A highly regarded song or album you’ve never heard: I’d have to say Pink Floyd’s The Wall.• An “important” piece of music/band you just don’t get: Steely Dan. I’m just not a fan of Yacht Rock. (Sorry Brent & Palmer!)• An album you played or listened to incessantly: Everything by Ben Folds and The Gabe Dixon Band. I’m a huge fan of geeky piano-based pop.• One obscure or non-country song everyone should listen to right now: There’s a local band in Chicago called I Fight Dragons—they are incredible! Go buy their EP on iTunes, it’s so worth it! And they don’t have a deal yet! Somebody better sign them quick!

Eight More On PPM Deck On December 31, Arbitron will report the first currency PPM monthlies for Cincinnati, Cleveland, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Portland (OR), Sacramento, Salt Lake City and San Antonio. The ratings firm reported today it has achieved more than 100% of its installation population in those eight markets, which commenced pre-currency measurement Sept. 17. While Arbitron’s benchmark participation level among 18-34s was reported as still slightly below objectives for these metros, its 6+ “designated delivery indexes” are on target.

Cell Phone FM Urged A letter from 60 House members to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski encourages the adoption of FM radio tuners in mobile phone handsets. CMA Countdown (continued from page 1)“My biggest worry was that somebody wouldn’t come get me or I wouldn’t be where I was supposed to be when I was supposed to be there.” Promising nine or so wardrobe changes, Underwood is focused on being in the moment. “Hopefully ... we’ll be able to relax and soak it all in instead of me being frazzled like I was last year.” In addition to keeping track of lead nominee Paisley’s progress, those marking a scorecard at home (full nominee list here) will eagerly anticipate the Entertainer of the Year outcome, as Swift has a shot at becoming the eighth female winner in the show’s 42-year history. She’s already the youngest person ever nominated for CMA’s top honor and the first solo female nominee since Hill in 2000. But what’s gender got to do with it?

Not much, she says. “I think you have to do the work and put in the effort and do the touring that it takes to win Entertainer,” she tells AP. “I think if you want to compete with the boys, play on a level that they’re playing at.” If she wins, she’ll join prior winners Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell (twice), Reba, Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks. Don’t forget that artists, CMA staff and other insiders will be tweeting throughout the entire show through the Twitter Viewing Party here. CAC

Big Kenny The Quiet Times Of A Rock And Roll Farm Boy (Love Everybody) You can tell Big Kenny Alphin’s solo debut album isn’t your average release just from the recyclable package and included wildflower seeds. Kenny’s bigkenny.tv website offers three purchase plans: download ($9.99),

download and CD ($14.99) and a deluxe package including a signed print, custom USB drive, scarf, vinyl edition, CD, download and more ($149.99, 200 available). Alphin wrote or co-wrote all 10 tracks including single “Long After I’m Gone.” Three Doors Down’s Brad Arnold and Evanescence’s Ben Moody have co-writing credits. Chris Stone co-produced with Alphin.

Dolly Parton Dolly: Live From London (Dolly) When Parton played London’s O2 Arena, the sold-out crowd went bloody barmy, which made it the perfect venue for recording this dual-disc combo. The CD and HD DVD feature a mixture of old and new favorites (“Jolene,” “Here You Come Again,” “Backwoods Barbie”)

recorded during the two-night stand in 2008. The DVD also has 50 minutes of behind-the-scenes bonus footage including interviews and soundcheck performances. Parton produced and executive produced the project. Fran Strine directed.

These are the new weights for Country Aircheck/Mediabase Country Reporters, based on audience figures from the Spring 2009 Arbitron ratings. PPM weights use a three month average of April-May-June AQH figures. The weights are calculated by this formula: Market rank is multiplied by 10 and then added to the station’s AQH Persons. A station’s weight is determined by dividing that adjusted AQH by the leading Country station’s adjusted AQH. For this period, that station is KKGO/Los Angeles with an adjusted AQH of 33,620. Station Weight = (Market rank X 10) divided by 33,620. These new weights are effective with this week’s Country Aircheck/Mediabase Country chart.
