School UniformsSale of SchoolTex to The Warehouse Group – Update
SchoolTex have advised that the sale of SchoolTex to The Warehouse Group is on track to be completed on 28 February.
In the week of 24 February, the Postie stores will begin packing up all SchoolTex stock that will be transferring across to The Warehouse. This means that there will potentially be no supply of SchoolTex next week (24-28 February). The stock will be moved across to The Warehouse Group from 26 February. Supply will resume in the week of 1 March 2014.
If you have SchoolTex items on layby with Postie, you will need to collect and pay for them by 24 February 2014.
Darfield High School uniform items which were previously available at Postie’s Rolleston store will be available from The Warehouse, Rolleston, from 1 March.
SchoolTex advises that they are attempting this transition with as little disruption and inconvenience as possible and thank customers in advance for their patience and positive support during the transition.
Uniform Shop at Darfield High School
All uniform items are available through Darfield High School. Brochures and order forms are available from the School Office, and can also be found on our website.
Orders at Darfield High School are taken by appointment only, so contact Sue to arrange this. It is preferable parents refrain from coming to reception for uniform items from 8–9.30 am as this is a very busy time.
If you have second hand uniform for sale and would like it to be added to the database, please email [email protected]. She will forward any enquiries to you. Details needed are: items, sizes, boys or girls, and price. It is important that if your items sell, you let the school know, so our database remains current.
If you would like to purchase second hand uniform, please email Sue and ask whether the items you require are on our database. She will forward contact details for you. Second hand stock is not generally held at school.

Principal’s Comments
Developments in the last decadewith information and communicationtechnologies, such as computers, smartphones and the internet, haveresulted in significant changes in theway in which we work at school. Thisis particularly the case with schooladministrationandnowincreasinglywithlearningtoo.Wehavebecomeveryrelianton these technologies to enable normalschooloperation.
This week, we were reminded howreliant on ICT we are when our schoolnetwork was not operating due to thefailure of some hardware in our corenetwork switch. The replacement partwas couriered fromWellington but eventwodayswithouttheschoolnetworkwasa problem. As most school systems arenetworkedoroperatedviatheinternetwewereunabletodothingssuchascompleteelectronicattendancerolls, accessemails, check timetables, operate the schoolaccounting system, enter marks, bookschool resources, produce daily notices, checkcalendarappointments, photocopyandprint.
Apart from Digital Technology classes, most lessons were able to proceedusefully; however, many learningresources were inaccessible, severelylimitingtherangeofpossibleactivitiesinsomeclasses.
Governments have been supportiveof ICT in schools, providing laptops for
teachers, network upgrades, Microsoftsoftware licences and, more recently,ultra-fastbroadband.Thereare,however,challenges with funding for networkmaintenance, availability of teacher ICTPD, and equity for families who cannotaffordcomputersathomeorforschool.
In 2014, all students are able to BYOD(bringyourowndevice)toconnecttotheschoolnetworkforuseinandoutofclass.Wealsohavefourdigitalclasseswhereallstudents bring a computer. A challengefor 2015 is where to go next with thedigitalclassconcept.Somebigquestionsweneedtoanswer:
• Should we continue with digitalclasses? Do they make a positivedifferencetolearning?
• Should a computing device be a‘compulsory’ part of the schoolstationeryrequirements?Howdowesupport families who are unable toaffordadevice?
• HowdowesupportteacherstomakegooduseofICTforlearning?
• Finding a place in the curriculumto teach digital safety and digitalliteracy?
Ilookforwardtoworkingwithourschoolcommunitytoanswerthesequestions.
