Hi my name is Minami Isobe I am from Hiroshima, Japan. I am a University Student studying English I am looking forward to talking to the students at BPS. Thank you to the Walbrink family for letting me stay with them. Please say Konnichiwa to me when you see me. Arigatou Minami House Athletics Our Annual Grade 4,5,6 House Athletics Day was held at Mentone Athletics Track on Wednesday 20th August. It was a cracking day at the track and it was fantastic to look around and see everyone (students, teachers and parents) turning up with smiles, enthusiasm, and determination and in house colours. It is always such busy a day with all hands on deck with the students competing in all events from 9.30 til 3pm. After all events had been completed, scores added up, it was revealed that Sturt House had won the day. Sturt have been

waiting a while for this win and were over the moon! On behalf of Ross Bailey and myself, I cannot express enough gratitude and thanks to the amazing parents who stayed and helped out non-stop for the whole day (with no coffee break to keep them going)…..from our amazing starter of races who always had a smile on his face, to the parents raking pits, collecting discus’s, measuring distances thrown and jumped, marshalling students, writing down points, timing and just lending a hand where needed you were fabulous. You all worked with a smile on your face, truckloads of enthusiasm and always had kind words to say to the students. Without your help and support we could not run days like these. To all the Year 4,5,6 teachers and Specialists who were there on the day and worked tirelessly to help run this day, another huge thank you to you. Your dedication to ensure this day runs so smoothly is to be commended. Lastly a big thank you to the students who competed on the day. Your behaviour, efforts and enthusiasm are a credit to you. Well done Sturt House. Sam Robinson and Ross Bailey

KIDS TEACHING KIDS WEEK What a busy week for BPS students involved in Sustainability. As part of Kids Teaching Kids Week we had a team of Year 4 and 6 students head to St Louis in Aspendale yesterday with Mr Lilburne to participate in the second day of the Big Green Schools Conference. Zac, Zac and Adam from Year 6 presented their model of a “green” railway station which had many sustainable features, and Lauren, Milla, Samantha and Kira from Year 4 also enjoyed the day’s workshops and activities. Today 12 Year 4 students are presenting our “Water Wisdom Warriors” workshop at the Port Phillip Ecocentre’s Sustainability Festival for students from a variety of primary and secondary schools, after which they will also participate in other workshops and some fun activities at the Ecocentre with Miss Cooper. We are very grateful to Target, Kids Teaching Kids Week’s major sponsor. Next week the students will present their reports at assembly and in Stop Press.

LEVEL LOW DOWN Prep

The Preps enjoyed their first Footy Day and loved cheering on the teachers in the staff vs. students football game. Tomorrow we will have visitors from ‘Carp Productions’ – a performance group. This is in preparation for our own Prep Performance night on Tuesday 28th October. The students will be learning to project their voices and smile on stage! The Preps loved watching their buddies in ‘Peter Pan Junior’ at the dress rehearsal on Monday, and sat still for the entire show with their mouths open in awe!! As the end of Term 3 approaches, the Preps are excited about the upcoming school holidays. Our brains are all exhausted with lots of learning taking place this term, and we are ready for a restful break!

Year One

In Year One this week we are revising a few maths concepts we’ve learnt throughout this term. We’re looking at

place value with 2, 3, and 4 digit numbers and adding different amounts together or giving change using Australian currency. We could keep practising these concepts at home and during the holidays. The junior students of Beaumaris

Primary School were lucky enough to receive some brand new iPads recently! We’ve started using them to help us

complete our reporter and photographer jobs during investigations. We’re also exploring some amazing learning apps

and we look forward to using them to help support other parts of our learning too. We can’t wait!

We enjoyed Footy Day last week so much. Here are some of us practising our football skills.

Year Two The musical critics of Year 2 decided to attend the dress rehearsal of the Year 6 Musical “Peter Pan Jnr”. This is what they had to say - “I found the musical really interesting. It was like the real Peter Pan!” Isaac 2C “I loved it! They all looked so grown up. They all remembered everything, none of them were shy.” Aurora 2C “I really liked it. The little dog Nana looked really cute in the dog costume. The dog was my favourite. I loved the Indian song too!” Matilda 2C “I liked it because the songs had heaps of actions in them” Tristan 2L “I loved when Wendy sang. It sounded really nice.” Charlotte 2L “My favourite part was when the crocodile snapped at Captain Hook! It was very funny” Annabelle 2M

Year Three Last week students viewed a segment from BTN (Behind the News) which touched on negative body image and negative thoughts within young children and teenagers. As a result of work completed at a Youth Summit held at the AIS in Canberra earlier this year, an initiative called ‘Fresh Faced Friday’ was established and was held on the Friday 5thSeptember. The Year 3 students chose to be involved and were given two options for participation, the first being to write something positive about themselves on a piece of paper and share a picture of themselves and their message on social media. The second was to change their thinking for the day, to a more positive and encouraging mind frame. If you would like to view some of pictures please visit the Beaumaris Primary School Facebook page. The Year 3’s have also been extra busy over last few weeks working on their ERP’s (Educational Research Project) in the

lead up to their ‘EXPO’. Family and friends are invited to come along and see all the amazing ERP’s the students have

completed. The Expo will be held on Wednesday 17th September at 8:45am in the Year 3 classrooms.

Year Five We look forward to hearing all about Year 5 Camp next week.

Year Six Our Peter Pan production has been a huge success with all students stepping up to the challenge and excitement of the opening night. Audiences, at dress rehearsals and the opening night, have been wowed by amazing costumes, intricate fight scenes and heart rending vocal performances. Congratulations to everyone in the production and a huge thank you to all the parents and teachers that have worked on costumes, make-up and stage preparations.

Year Four Meanwhile in Year 4, students are busily preparing for their market expo next Tuesday (16th September – 3:00 – 4:00). All visitors are reminded to bring along loose change to make some purchases and are encouraged to discuss with store owners what they have learned about Economics. Congratulations to all Year 4 students who competed in Tuesday’s District Athletics. A particular special mention needs to be made for those students who have reached the next round and for those who competed above their age group to fill spots vacated by our Year 5 students who are on camp.

The Big Green Schools conference was an opportunity to look at the possible green options for train stations. Students from 9 schools presented their ideas on making stations more sustainable and better community hubs. Zac, Adam and Zac presented their diorama and ideas to representatives from Kingston Council and Metro trains who have asked for photos from all the teams attending to use for future planning for the rail network. The day was a wonderful opportunity to share sustainable ideas with like-minded students from many schools and to also introduce the Big Green Schools format to our Year 4 representatives, Samantha, Kira, Milla and Lauren.

As you all know the POD is coming back, well this is not possible without LOTS of donations of scrap

materials. So either you donate or the POD can’t come BACK. Please place all donations in the box at the office.

Thank you from Adam & Beth

Hello parents, students and teachers,

This week is a very special week for us here at OSHC! As part of Camp Australia's company-wide initiative, we are supporting The Smith

Family's Back 2 School fundraising appeal. As part of this appeal, we will be raising funds to provide education essentials (books, uniforms,

and learning support) to kids in 97 of the most disadvantaged communities throughout Australia. The Smith Family's Learning for Life program support not only disadvantaged children but also their families

who provide crucial nurturing relationships and supportive learning environments that children need. We believe that all children should

experience a positive primary school education!

The children at Beaumaris OSHC have started making all sorts of donation boxes. Annabelle especially has put in so much thought and

effort that we can't wait to see the finished product! The children will also be looking at some of the things they have made this term to see what they can put up for sale within the service. They're all very keen to

help raise some money for a good cause!

Next Thursday the 18th of September we will be running some special activities in our after school care program. We will have a badge

maker and a face painting station set up and for a gold coin donation the children can make their very own badges or have their face painted

by one of our team members! Camp Australia will match all contributions so please don't forget to bring a donation with you on the day!

The team here at Beaumaris OSHC hope you all have a lovely

weekend! Jenny and Ashley
