Issue 3 – Term 1 – Week 7 Wednesday 11 March 2020
Dear Parents / Carers
I am bursting with pride to announce that Jensen
and Malayke have been selected to represent
Westlakes PSSA in Rugby League. The boys
represented our school in the zone selections and
will now participate in the Hunter PSSA League
trials at Raymond Terrace on Monday. We wish
Malakye and Jensen the best of luck.
Congratulations to the Year 6 students selected to
represent our student body in Parliament for 2020.
Our Director Educational Leadership, Mr James
Brigden, was at our assembly to see our
representatives receive their badges.
A reminder that cars can only remain in the Kiss n
Ride zone for 2 minutes. This means that if you arrive
at 2.55 pm and wait for your child to come out of the
school at 3.00 pm you may be fined by the rangers. I
would be extremely disappointed if this happened to
one of our parents / carers. I understand that traffic
is congested at home time, particularly on rainy days.
It will be a very busy end to the term. We have
Harmony Week, Earth Hour, Life Education, Cross
Country Carnival, Easter Hat Parade, Stewart House,
Disco and Parent Teacher Interviews all coming up.
Keep an eye on Facebook and Skoolbag app for
details. I would love to see you at the P and C AGM
on Monday 16 March at 3.30pm in our school library.
Kind Regards
Kristy Luff

Kindy Club 2020 Expression of Interest Kindy Club is a school readiness program designed to assist students in making a smooth transition to Kindergarten at Booragul Public School. The program has a range of activities including name recognition, counting, number recognition, listening and social skills. The aim of this program is to allow students to make friends and become familiar with the school environment and staff prior to starting Kindergarten. The program occurs one morning per week commencing in Term 2 of the school year. We are seeking expression of interest for children wishing to attend the Kindy Club program in 2020. Please contact school office for Expression of Interest Application Form.
Harmony Week
Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of culture. It is a way of celebrating multiculturalism in Australia. To celebrate Harmony Week, our school will be participating in class activities beginning 16 March. Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies meaningful conversations and encouragement of mutual respect. Students can choose to wear something orange on Friday 20 March to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.
Tell Them From Me Survey I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 9 March and 8 May. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 20 March. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents. The consent form and FAQs are available in 23 languages.
Learning For The Future
Earth Hour This year, on Saturday 28 March, all Australians are invited to take part in Earth Hour, by switching off at 8.30pm for 60 minutes, as a gesture to show they care about our planet’s future. Make the most of the evening by switching off the television and the computer. Instead, try lighting some candles and playing games as a family, reading books out loud, having a discussion about the importance of protecting our environment or playing spotlight with a torch in the backyard. On Friday 27 March, between 12.35 - 1.35pm, all classrooms at Booragul are switching off lights, computers and interactive boards to show we care for sustainability and our environment.
