Hi Everybody, Yes, I am back with my little one in tow. My office has had a big rearrange and the portacot is all set up and ready to go. A big thank you to Mrs Jordan and Mrs Tweeddale for giving us extra cot blankets and bedding for Tawhio's 'office nursery', he is all toasty and warm and settled in his bed. One other piece of news from our little family is that my husband Cody has completed his postgraduate teaching degree, which means you will see him around the place relieving if teachers are sick or away on professional development. So now you know who your kids may be talking about when they say Cody was their teacher today :-) Well school seems to be ticking away just nicely, everyone is settled in nicely and our roll has grown to a massive 102 students! A big welcome to our latest new entrant pupil Shiloh, Zinny's little sister. Mrs Corbett's Superheroes class is getting very big indeed, and three of her Superhero big kids will be moving up to Miss Webb's class in a couple of weeks. The senior classes are currently embroiled in the Sumdog Online Mathematics Challenge with the local regional schools. I didn't realise just how competitive Mrs Bell was! Oh and the students too of course! Next week is the Taihape Cluster Winter Tournament, on Friday 20th June, down at the sports grounds in Taihape. All senior students from Mrs Bell's class and Miss B's class are either playing Netball, Soccer, or Rugby. We are still in need of coaches and referees for the day, so please let Miss B know if you are available. We will be in Taihape all day, so if you happen to have a day off or are passing through we would love as many supporters down there to cheer us on as possible. Finally, just a reminder that the proper flu is currently doing the rounds in our area. If your child is sick, please keep them home as it is very contagious. We don't want to pass these germs on to other kids, and definitely not on to the teachers. Anyway it is great to be back, and thank you for all of the kind words and wishes for our baby. Hi Everybody,

Yes, I am back with my little one in tow. So now you know who your kids may be talking about when

they say Cody was their teacher today :-)

Well school seems to be ticking away just nicely, everyone is settled in nicely and our roll has grown to a massive 102 students!

School Green Team Congratulations to the 9 new senior members of the Waiouru School Senior Green Team. Jayden Webb-Milner, Olivia Foote, Johnny Bosmann, Gabriel Theodore, Elaina Vine, Jordan Wiseman, Kayla Jordan, Madison Cole and congratulations to the 6 Junior Green Team members – Stuart Rose Sinclair, Roman Makara, Michaela Parker, Kori Rata, Kayleb Stevens and Breeanah Tweeddale. Members will be responsible for making changes within our school so that we can be as green as possible. Student interest in the team was high, with most students from the classes applying to join, making the decision a very tough one. Junior classes will have 2 representatives on the team for some of the activities. Their names will be published in next week's newsletter. Mrs Corbett and Miss Webb are the lead teachers for this group. Taihape School’s Winter Tournament This is a preliminary heads up to save the date, Friday 20th June, as this is when the Winter Tournament will be held. For those new to our school, Winter Tournament is a tournament for our local schools and involves rugby, netball and football. All students in Year 4-8 will be taking part in one of the codes. I will be organising teams in the next couple of weeks and are looking for people interested in helping coach or look after teams especially with football. If this sounds like you please let school know. Look forward to hearing from you! Stacey

Mathematics Achievement Challenge: (Senior students yr 4 – yr 8). This is an opportunity for students to encounter extension in maths. Interested students undertake in-depth investigations (independently or cooperatively) in their own time. It's a bit like the Science Fair, except that the projects have a set investigation, there are badges and if you do a certain number of projects in a year, you can earn the super award. Mrs Donaldson is going to lead this, with a meeting once a week for those students who need support or have work to sign off. Students who are interested can see Mrs D at any time for entry into the programme. There is a charge of $10 per project. We may open it up to the younger students at a later date. Check out the range of topics at http://www.maths.org.nz/challenges.html. Some of them are: cooking technology, travel, sports, the outdoors, games and puzzles, technology and cultural maths.
