Photo by Brendan Praeger. Justin Fager sophomore Wabaunsee P.E teacher Skylar Suther arranged a team building trip for freshmen last week at the Adventure Challenge Course in Topeka. According to Suther the fresh- men have been having trouble working together so this is his solution.“is trip is meant to help the students learn how to communicate better and work to- gether as a team from this experi- ence,” Suther said. Upon arrival the students were given pictures, and split into groups. e object of their first challenge was to describe the picture to their group mates with- out showing the actual picture to them. e day continued with fun team-building activities that put students into situations that re- quired teamwork such as rope swinging, tight-rope walking, and power climbing. “I got to climb up and jump off of a 30 foot pole while other stu- dents held the rope holding me,” freshman Erica Prue said. Each activity required different abilities so having teams allowed for some students to complete things they couldn't do individu- ally. is was a learning experience for all of the freshmen at WHS. “Heights are not as bad as they seem, and teamwork is trying but very useful in the end,” freshman Davey Hund said. The girls team took first at the meet. 8:40 a.m. - 1: Float decorating 12:45-1:15: Kindergarten through 4th grade pep rally in the high school new gym. 1:15: Parade line up at the corner of Missouri Avenue and 10th street. e cheerleaders and band will line up first followed by candidates, then high school class floats and lastly, other participants. 1:30: e parade will go to the Alma Manor then back to Missouri Avenue and head south. Following the parade: Pep rally at the corner of Missouri and 4th Street. 3:30: Students are released and nor- mal bus routes run. 6:20: Crowning at the football field. 7: e Chargers kick off the game against the Onaga Buffaloes. 9:30-11:35: Homecoming dance in high school commons. Admission is $1. Oo- bleck has two ingredients, corn- starch and water. “e purpose of the lab is to determine the state of matter of oobleck,” freshman David Cebulski said. Science teacher Lisa Hull enjoys teaching children through labs. “ey are learning about matter. ey have to know if it is a solid, liquid, colloid, or a suspension,” Hull said. Students enjoyed participating in the lab. “I liked playing with the oobleck because it felt weird and was fun to make,” freshman Kin- sey Stuewe said. e students also learned “When you mix cornstarch and water, it makes a substance that is both a liquid and solid,” freshman Kaytlin Savage said. Magdaline McCall senior Boys and girls cross coun- try both finished first at the Jason McKinney Memo- rial Tournament ursday at the Wabaunsee Pines Golf course. Eight individuals also medaled. “Overall, times weren't what we hoped for although we did have season bests from Jessica, Maddie, and Sean. I do think we competed well and, even though this was a pretty small meet, it was great to see our runners sweep both the team and individual titles,” coach Roger Alderman said. Junior Madeline Hess placed first in the girls race. is is her second year in a row winning the meet. It marked junior Braden ar- man’s first cross country win. Sophomore Karsen Schul- tz is new to cross country, and she has also been doing re- ally well. “ I really like Cross Country, it’s really fun. It’s also getting me in good shape for basketball,” Schultz said. Alderman was happy with the turnout for the meet. “ank you to everyone who came out and supported us.     Wabaunsee P.E teacher Skylar Suther arranged a team building trip for freshmen last week at the Adventure Challenge Course in Topeka.
