Message from the Principal Dear Parents & Caregivers,
As COVID-19 restrictions are eased across the state, we will be keeping you
updated with the changes that impact our school. You may have seen ABC
National News on Monday morning featuring Linden Park Primary School. It
highlighted the changes that we and schools across South Australia have made to
keep our children and staff safe and the return to face to face teaching. If you missed
it, you can see it on our school website or LPPS Facebook page.
Returning to School
While we have been supporting parent choice during this pandemic, the Department
for Education now expects all public school students who are well and not considered
vulnerable to COVID-19 to attend school.
Students are required to attend school unless they are: Feeling unwell
Have a chronic medical condition or compromised immune system and are not able to
attend school on advice from their medical practitioner
Live in a household with others that are deemed vulnerable to COVID-19 and are not able
to attend school on advice of their medical practitioner
Have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or have been required to self-isolate by SA Health
We will continue to provide support for students not able to attend school on advice
from their medical practitioner. For all other students we will resume full face to face
teaching and online resources will not continue from Monday 25th May. If you have any
concerns please call the school and ask to speak to a member of the leadership team.
School sports
We will slowly be introducing some school sports training, e.g. Aerobics & Cross Country,
however transition to full training and competition without spectators, including indoor
sports will commence from 8th June. The advice is these activities should commence
gradually, rather than a comprehensive and simultaneous recommencement of
competition and only include non and low-contact sports in localised competitions.
Physical distancing at school drop off and pick up
I would like to remind parents to maintain the 1.5m physical distance between
themselves and other adults (parents and teachers) at all times, including school drop
off and pick up.
As of Friday 22nd May we will be allowing all parents of Junior Primary (R-Yr 2) students to
enter the grounds at drop off and pick up times.
For drop off we ask that you do not enter or congregate around the buildings but say
good bye to your child in the yard and quickly leave the school grounds.
At pick up times parents can enter the grounds to collect their children from the
designated pick up outside area. Staggered dismissal times remain: Reception and Year 2
students at 3:00pm, Year 1s at 3:10pm.
For Year 3 to Year 7 we ask parents to wait outside the school grounds at drop off and
pick up. We ask that parents only enter the school grounds if you are attending a
meeting or collecting a child early/dropping late and ask you to go to the front office
to sign in. We continue to ask parents to not enter the classroom buildings.
Thank you for your continued support in this area. Deb O’Neill, Principal

Library
Lib

National Simultaneous Storytime is Wednesday 27th May. The
book this year is Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas by
Lucinda Gifford. Children will enjoy reading and activities
around this book on the day. Details on our LPPS Library
website.
This year the organisers of the Premiers Reading Challenge
have decided to forgo the formal PRC list and allow all titles
to count towards a student’s 12 books. So
there is no need to check for PRC stickers or
search for titles on the website. All titles can
be added to either the top or bottom of your
child’s list. Please remind children to record
only 2-3 titles from a particular series. This
encourages them to read widely and be a
balanced reader.
More details can be found on their website:
http://www.premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au/
We appreciate many families who have made sure their child has returned
their stack of books that were borrowed towards the end of last term. If your
child hasn’t returned their books, please make sure they get returned as soon
as possible. All books borrowed last term are now overdue. R-3 classes have
their borrowing on even weeks this term and years 4-7 will borrow on odd
weeks. It has been wonderful to have students back in the library this week.

Food Allergy Week—Wk 5

Food Allergy Week is an Allergy &
Anaphylaxis Australia initiative which
was launched in May in 2003, and
aims to raise awareness of food
allergy including potentially fatal
food allergies.
https://allergyfacts.org.au/faw2020
What is food allergy? Food allergy is an immune system response to a food protein
that the body (mistakenly) believes is harmful. When a food which a person is allergic
to is eaten, the immune system releases massive amounts of chemicals, triggering
potentially life-threatening symptoms. Currently there is no cure for food allergy,
avoidance is the only way to prevent a reaction.
What are the signs and symptoms of food allergy? Food allergic reactions can range
from mild to severe, severe being what we call anaphylaxis. Symptoms usually
appear within two hours of a person eating a food (even a small amount) they are
allergic to. Mild to moderate allergic reaction • swelling of the face, lips and eyes •
hives or welts • tingling mouth • abdominal pain, vomiting (these are signs of a
severe allergic reaction to insects) Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) •
difficult/noisy breathing • swelling of the tongue • swelling/tightness of the throat •
difficulty talking and/or hoarse voice • wheeze or persistent cough • persistent
dizziness or collapse • pale and floppy (young children) c)
What foods can cause food allergy? Any food can trigger an allergic reaction and there
are more than 170 foods reported to have caused a severe reaction. However, there
are ten foods that cause 90 per cent of reactions, which are: • peanuts • treenuts
(e.g. almonds, walnuts, cashews) • egg • cow’s milk • sesame • fish • shellfish (e.g.
oysters, prawns) • soy • wheat • lupin
At Linden Park Primary we have an Allergy Awareness Policy which states:
Parents
Are requested NOT to send food to school that contain nuts, especially peanuts. This
includes products such as peanut paste, ‘Nutella’, most nuts, peanut cooking oil and other
foods that may contain nuts.
Students
Are encouraged to wash hands before
and after eating.
Who bring food containing nuts, or nut
products, are required to eat that food in
the front office and to wash their hands
before going to play.
Are not to share food.
Staff
Will be made aware of students who have
anaphylactic responses, including nut
allergy.
Will supervise students during lunch eating
time and will be vigilant in regard to this
policy.
Will regularly undertake first aid training.
The policy can be viewed on our school website
