Shenyang Chemical gets national patent award for VAGH product

Shenyang Chemical’s patent for a copolymer paste resin and its

preparation process (ZL02132862.5) got the first place at the 15th China Patent Awards. Shenyang Chemical has developed and sold five other paste resins, using its in-house expertise, and filed 10 patent applications and eight utility model applications. Its annual glove-special PVC resin output hit 40,000 tons, completely replacing PVC paste resin rubber product imports thus breaking the foreign monopoly and helping China’s PVC disposable glove industry grow from

nothing to something. The company has become the world’s largest PVC disposable glove producer. At the base of this is continued technical innovation to improve PVC paste resin technology. The company has received 23 patents, many of which earned the first prize from the city of Shenyang City for scientific and technological development, a China Chemical Patent award, and a 2nd prize from Liaoning province for scientific and technological advancement. Some of its products are top brands and the first of their kind in the country. ■

Bluestar ion membrane electrolytic tank does

well in Russia

Th e B l u e s t a r ( B e i j i n g ) Chemica l Mach inery Co

signed a sales contract with Russia’s New Moscow Chlorine A l ka l i Co , a subs id i a ry o f EuroChem, on Oct 15, for a 100,000-t/a ion membrane electrolytic tank, the first of its kind for Bluestar ion membrane electrolytic tanks in Russia, and greater brand awareness in the European market. The contract calls for BCM to provide the IMET equipment and design for a 100,000-t/a chlorine alkali project and to make certain that plant commissioning conditions are met. This wi l l provide a good example of chlorine alkali equipment upgrading for the European market. The Russian market is immense but has outdated technology and equipment and has long been dominated by western countries, such as Germany. The success of this project can be attributed to Bluestar’s influence in China and and BCM’s effort to tap into overseas markets. ■

Assessment at Shenyang Chemical CPP project

Nanjing Adisseo micro film

Th e w o r l d ’s f i r s t e t h y l e n e production plant based on heavy

residual-oil catalytic-cracking (CPP) has been in operation for more than four years at Shenyang Chemical. Assessing its decision making process, implementation, and operations could be important for similar projects e l sewhere and dup l icat ing the CPP technology. So, in September, ChemChina had a seven-member task force do an overall assessment of the CPP-based ethylene production

plant and a 200,000-t/a PE project. The assessment will take a full year to complete, but the task force spent three days doing a survey, reviewing relevant documents and interviewing departments as part of their preliminary effort. This sort of assessment is an important management activity for high-value investment projects, to improve investment management and decision making and increase the return on investment. ■

ChemChina is an active participant in a photography and micro-

fi lm contest, sponsored by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, with the theme “New SOEs, Chinese Dream”, using micro film mainly from Nanjing Adisseo, which uses the Sino-French cooperation of the Adisseo project. This is a good demonstration of SOEs’ effort to go global, with newer SOEs aspiring to go global under new circumstances. Nanjing Adisseo produced a video that is included in the preliminary assessment section of the online contest. ■

Aeolus Tyre gets most valuable brand designation

When the most valuable Chinese b r a n d s l i s t f o r 2 0 1 3 w a s

unveiled in Paris, France, Aeolus was the only tire industry brand on it, in 69th place. Under immense pressure, Aeolus Tyre has continued to innovate and improve its product quality and marketing, developing i t s own brand ing s t rategy and increasing its brand value, resulting

in greater competitiveness. The list appeared during the 2013 Sino-EU SME Partnership Week, in Paris, under Global SME Alliance auspices. The move to identify the most valuable Chinese brands began back in 1995, with the focus on 100 leading consumer brands. This was the earliest and longest-running specialized comparative study of

Chinese brands, a cooperative effort of R&F Global Ranking and the Beijing Brand Asset Appraisal Co. It examines the meaning and development of brand trends and Chinese companies’ effort to create their own brands. It is based on a belief that a brand is the result of market competition and that the main factor of industrial success is not the brand. ■

At the 6th Agrow Awards for 2013, which took place in Amsterdam,

Netherlands, on Oct 28, Sanonda go t the be s t - run en te rp r i se award for emerging markets, the only recognition of its kind for a Chinese company. Haohua Yuhang gains market exposure through PVC bagsHua Xuxiang, Zhao Lijun

Most of China’s CCP-based PVC makers have traditionally put

their products in 25-kg paper-plastic compound bags, which are not cost-effective, or recoverable, and are easy to damage in transit. So, after doing many market surveys Haohua Yuhang decided to try switching to a polystyrene bag that could hold one ton of PVC. Now, its PVC heavy-duty package production line is the first of its kind in the calcium-carbide process-based chlorine alkali industry. It was commissioned on Oct 30, at

the Qingyang factory, with three production lines up and running. In the first 10 months of 2013, the company sold 42,000 tons of heavy-duty PVC packages, saving 1.59 million yuan in packaging costs. Estimates put the packaging savings at 38 yuan per ton. They also reduce unloading costs and the incidence of leakage or damaged bags, for downstream manufacturers, increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty and stabilizing PVC distribution channels and bringing greater brand awareness and recognition. ■

Huaxing Petrochemical’s plant management program for 2013

reached Phase II, on Oct 25. Its first phase got off to a good start in May 2012 and was completed t h i s p a s t M a r c h , b r i n g i n g improvements to the p lants management, getting employees involved in better maintenance as a team, improving operating and maintenance skills, and making optimal use of equipment to reach a milestone. This year, the company will continue with its TPM program to help employees better identify and eliminate equipment problems and make them more aware of the need to work as a team. There are many new initiatives such as “Equipment and site ownership” and “Being a p r o f e s s i o n a l e q u i p m e n t operator” that will take place to back the program and improve management’s performance, reduce operating costs, make safety intrinsic, and improve overall management practices. ■
