Resource Centre The renovations to our Resource Centre are continuing to progress well. The builders have completed the construction of walls and are about to spray paint the walls. The new colours will have a significant impact on the look of the room. The plan is for renovations to be completed during the second week of the holidays and then the new furniture can be moved in. The furniture is arriving on Thursday prior to the holidays and we are planning to store the furniture along the corridor close to the Resource Centre. This will assist in the shifting of furniture during the school holidays. Curriculum Planning As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, our staff members have this week been working in teams to complete detailed term planners to guide their work throughout term three. This planning greatly assists in ensuring that there is consistency in the delivery of the curriculum across each level. During this planning teachers share their ideas to plan engaging activities for our students and decide which excursions and incursions can be arranged to make their learning more meaningful.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Garden News

Year 5 and 6 classes were recording measurements in the garden last week. Rain gauges were created from recycled plastic bottles (as seen in the photograph). Although the weather has been cold lately, there has been little rain but hopefully there will be some to quantify soon. Another garden job undertaken was potting the eggplants and chillies to prevent them from dying in the frost. The pots are in the greenhouse and when spring arrives, they can be planted again. The chillies have survived three years of potting and we all know they crop well! Many thanks to Eddie & Ruby Wiggett's grandfather for fixing a wheelbarrow and volunteering this term. Happy and safe holidays everyone. Anna Clarkson

Cybersmart Coming off a very successful Cybersmart presentation, we have had many requests for the Cybersmart website. This website has information for all age groups and also has connections to social media and clips to educate and support. The address is www.cybersmart.gov.au.

I hope this helps.

Hello from Madame Stratakos

Dear parents and students, It was with great sadness that I had to leave suddenly last November without saying goodbye to the lovely Dorset school community. After a routine check-up in mid-November, my husband and I got the news that our youngest daughter Christina had relapsed from an illness she had been in remission for, for just on 12 months. Christina required immediate treatment and has been receiving ongoing Chemotherapy at the Royal Children’s Hospital since then. She then required a transplant in May. Doctors are confident they have got rid of the disease however to ensure it doesn’t come back again, Christina is due to start radiation therapy in July. I do hope to come visit the staff and students as soon as I can next term and catch up on how everyone is. May you all have a wonderful midyear break and spend some quality time together. Kind regards, Madame Annalisa Stratakos

Chaplain’s Chat with Dave For All of Us

Like all of us, I’ve noticed the terrible things happening around the world due to racism, politics and religious fundamentalism. As I watch the racial turmoil in my homeland – the USA – and see the vitriol, murder and division caused by the many shades of grey that consider themselves black and white; I see one thing. As I watch refugees drowning in stateless seas and stranded on islands of (in)convenience; I see one thing. As I watch people of faith myopically claiming they’re right while others are left for dead; I see one thing. The one thing I see is me. Rather than us. I see the breakdown of community, the fragmenting of family, the loneliness of each of us. When was the last time you attended a gathering for the sake of the many? When was the last time you sat in a circle facing those you love? When was the last time you smiled at a stranger? So, I’m going to make a commitment – and I invite you to join me – to celebrate the other. Take a group to a local footy game. Eat lunch with family. Laugh at a child’s joke. Go to a place where everyone is singing and join the song. Tell someone pushing a pram how beautiful their baby is. Buy something at the market made by the person sitting behind the table. Tell your kids you love them. Then say it again. And again. Until they laugh. Until they feel the joy they are to you. Community is the best form of humanity – until it closes its eyes, doors, borders and hearts. Then it’s the worst. So, let’s build the world up. Make it stronger. Together, all of

us.

There are lots of fun activities based around space and time travel along with exciting excursions including the new Minions movie. UPDATING ENROLMENT DETAILS Often parents forget to update their enrolment details when their circumstances change or are not able to provide all details online at the time of enrolment. It is important to make sure you have included all the required information on the enrolment form. This will help us, at Camp Australia, to give your child the best care possible. All contact people also need to be added to the enrolment forms. We will

not allow children to be collected by anyone other than those authorised

by parents to do so.

Remember: In order to avoid fees for a cancellation you must cancel at

least 7 days prior to the days in question otherwise it is marked as an

absence and you will be charged fees for that time.
