Parents and Carers as Learning Partners Thank you to everybody who attended our Welcome Picnic last week. If you were unable to make it, I would encourage you to make a time to come and see your child’s classroom and
meet their teacher. We value the relationships that we form with every student’s parents and
carers as our aim is to ensure that the home-school partnership is strong and we can work together in maximising every child’s learning outcomes.
School Council Elections Next week I will be sending a notice (hard copy and via school stream) to notify the school community of the upcoming School Council election. There will be two vacant Parent Category positions on school council, nomination forms will be available from the office and you will have one week from the call for nominations to lodge your nomination at the office. If required, an election will be held directly after nominations close. If this occurs, election information and ballot papers will be sent to all families.
Supervision of Students All staff at our school take duty of care very seriously and ensure students are well supervised when in classrooms and in the schoolyard. Parents are reminded that teachers are on yard duty from 8.45am, and after school until 3.45pm. If you are unable to drop off and pick up between these times, then you need to make arrangements for before/after school care.
Structure of the day 8.50am – Music 8.55am – Children line up 9.00am-11.00am – Teaching & Learning 11.00am-11.15am – Eating Time inside 11.15am-11.45am – Play Break 1 11.45am – 1.30pm – Teaching & Learning 1.30pm-1.45pm – Eating Time inside 1.45pm-2.30pm – Play Break 2 2.30pm-3.30pm – Teaching & Learning 3.30pm - Dismissal
Respect the road rules and parking signs Respect the road rules and parking signs. It is important that parents park legally to provide a safer environment for children. Double parking restricts the view of drivers, forces children onto the road and obstructs the flow of traffic.
40km/h sign All school speed limits across the State are clearly signposted. Look out for the speed signs near schools and slow down to improve safety for children.
Children crossing When the flags are displayed at a children’s crossing, you must stop for pedestrians who are waiting to
cross or who have started crossing. You must remain stopped until the crossing is clear. These rules apply even if there is no crossing supervisor.
No parking It is important that you don’t park in any area where this sign is displayed.
No stopping No stopping means you must not stop at the kerb for any reason Parking within 20 metres before a designated school crossing or 10 metres after is illegal.

Office News
School Office Hours
Office hours are 8.30am - 4.30pm
Corridor Access for Dismissals
We remind parents to please meet your child outside the school building at the end of the day as the corridors and
office area become too congested if parents are inside and it becomes a safety issue across the school.
We would suggest you designate a meeting point where your child can meet you every day.
We appreciate your co-operation in this area.
School Payments
Just a reminder that all school payments for excursions, incursions and any activities must be placed in an envelope
together with the signed permission notice.
CSEF Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund
We need your applications by Friday 26th February!
CSEF will be provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school
excursions/incursions, camps and sporting activities.

A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families.
The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions/incursions or sporting activities
for the benefit of your child.

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR CHILD'S CLASS FOR 2016.
Before placing any order please LOG IN to our site, CLICK ON 'MY ACCOUNT' and EDIT YOUR CHILD'S PROFILE selecting THE CORRECT CLASS FOR THIS YEAR so as to
make distribution of the lunches at the School End easy!
(To EDIT click on the Pencil and Paper Icon beside the Child's Name!)
......and A FEW FRIENDLY REMINDERS!
OUR ORDERING SYSTEM REALLY DOES CLOSE AT 8.30am!
Once it's 8.30am and ordering closes we are Go, Go, Go! All our concentration is directed toward getting the best possible lunches to those who've met the 8.30am CUTOFF! We're still a small business trying to keep the cost of our lunches to an
absolute minimum for you!
PLEASE GIVE YOURSELF TIME - WE CAN'T ACCEPT ORDERS by EMAIL OR PHONE AFTER 8.30am and provide the pricing, service and variety of Menu Options that we do!
YOU CAN ORDER IN ADVANCE FOR ONE DAY OR AS MANY DAYS AS YOU LIKE IN THE ONE
TRANSACTION!
You can order in advance, more than one meal and for more than one child in the same Order! If you're a family who order frequently, i.e. every Weds or Fri we encourage you to ORDER IN ADVANCE and USE THE CANCEL OPTION if your child
doesn't go to school on the day of an ordered lunch. This is very helpful to us for planning purposes, not to mention a reduction in bank fees as we pick up the cost and are
charged per transaction. Again this is to help keep the cost to an absolute minimum for you!
PLACING ORDERS in ADVANCE really does HELP YOU (& US!) It can certainly SAVE YOUR HOUSEHOLD UNNECESSARY STRESS ON BUSY SCHOOL MORNINGS!

Please take a moment to check that your order has confirmed. This is especially important if you've had your child place the order!
Please also double check the date you've selected when ordering - It's disappointing for a child to not receive an order they are expecting and also creates unnecessary work for the office staff at your school.
AVOID DOUBLE PROCESSING YOUR PAYMENT! CLICK ONCE on the PAYMENT BUTTON and WAIT!
CLOSE THE PAYMENT PAGE ONCE PAYMENT IS CONFIRMED!
and Finally......
We hope you'll continue to enjoy our service! BEST WISHES FOR A GREAT 2016!

UKULELE AND SONGWRITING WITH LIAM GERNER.
Calling all TPS songwriters!!! After an enjoyable 2015 teaching ukulele at TPS I have discovered how many incredible creative ukulele and songwriters we have at the school. From prep to grade 6 fantastic songs have been written by the children,
recorded and performed. So in 2016 ukulele we are offering cheaper and smaller ukulele lessons which focus on original composition. There are still some
spaces left for new students. Lessons are 30 minutes and weekly, with a maximum of 3 kids per class and the option of two student or individual classes. They are
cheaper this year too at $12 per lesson. A little about me, I am 32 years old and a professional songwriter/guitarist, I have worked in Europe, US and Australia
recording, touring, studying and teaching guitar for the past 12 years. I am currently playing guitar for my solo and band projects and with Vika and Linda Bull, The
Eurogliders (more at www.liamgerner.com). I am a great believer in learning and teaching music. Please contact me to book your child in or if you have any
queries . Liam Gerner [email protected] 0451972471

LIBRARY NEWS
OVERDUE BOOKS Thank you to all the parents and students who have returned books found over the holidays. Any books that were not returned at the end of last year must now be returned.
OSHC
I’d like to start by saying well done to all our new enrolments and preps for transitioning in to the OSHC program so
well. The New Year has started and we are in full swing of activities with our room filling up each day with new crafts and displays. The children have been getting their hands dirty planting different seeds into recycled CD cases to watch them germinate and grow. We recently had Stephanie an assessor come and join us for two programs and conduct a rating and assessment visit, we should have our results back in the next few weeks. Just a reminder as we are updating and going through medical files that if you have an asthma action plan with the school that we also require a copy at OSHC Thanks Andi

GARDEN PARTY
Everyone is invited to come along to our first Garden Party, this Friday 19th February, from 3pm in the Food Garden (near the prep/1 rooms). Every Friday we will be doing fun garden projects - planting, crafting, getting our hands dirty, making our gardens into even more thriving spaces. This is open to any member of the school community. Please note, when students join us at 3.30 they will need to stay in the Food Garden area (away from after school care) and be in the supervision of parent/guardians at all times.
RIDE TO SCHOOL DAY
Wednesday 2nd March, 2016 The idea for ride to school day this year is to get as many kids as possible riding, skating, scooting or walking. Get the kids excited about the day by decorating their bike or helmet. The ride to school team is
going to explain basic safety talking about helmets and having good running gear on their bike. The kids will then get taken around the course and they can practice their skills.

Full Boarding Homestay Families Are Sought for International Students at Northcote High School
Northcote High School seeks quality homestays from our local community, to help care for young international
students studying in year 10, 11 +12 with us. They are mainly from Asian countries, such as China, Vietnam, Korea,
Thailand and Cambodian. We also have some International Students are from European countries such as Italy and
Germany. Hosting International Students can bring a rich cross cultural experience and opportunity for our fami-
lies. Many local families already on board with Northcote High School Homestay Program over the years have en-
joyed and benefited from the diverse cultural and language exchange experience, especially when they have school
age children at home. The reverse experience for our International Students is very much part of their overseas
study journey. If you have a spare room and are willing to take care of a young international student please con-
tact the International Student Office 9488 2334 (or General Office 9488 2300 or email
[email protected]) for more information. Full boarding homestay fees are $300 per week (tax free),
which covers a fully furnished room, 3 healthy meals daily, laundry, household bills (including internet). Students
are responsible for their own transport.
