भांगल्मारा. ददलाऱीच्मा अभाऩ ळुबेच्छा…! May the supreme light illuminate your minds, en-lighten your hearts, & strengthen the human bonds in your homes and communities. It gives me immense pleasure to be with you as President of our Club on this festive occasion. We had a fantastic lecture on Antarctica by Dr. Madhubala Chinchalkar during joint meeting on 10th October. With her well-thought out presentation replete with colourful graphics & explicit animations as well as her scholarly yet simple narration, she just took us on a conducted tour of Antarctica. It was very satisfying. The Kojagiri get-together immediate-ly followed on 12th was another enjoyable fellow-ship experience. The venue, weather, mood, variety entertainment, food ..everything just worked out very well for all of us. Perfect teamwork !! Everyone made it a memorable event in the calendar this year. We have activity packed meetings & projects laid out till end of this year. Let us continue to have great time together.

Members of RCMP celebrated Kojagari on Saturday Oct 12 on the terrace of our President Mukund Chiplunkar. As suggested by Director Admin we had invited more amateur singers from our club itself to participate and sing for this event. Anna Uday who was the Convener, started the event elaborating the importance of Moon in terms of its effects on

earth & on human mind. Slowly the topic went on to songs. Anna Uday started the song and with few narrations, sher o shayari our singers joined him. Amongst them were Neelkanth Joshi, Vivek Kulkarni, Rahul Joshi, Sneha Sub-hedar, Madhavi Kulkarni, Meera Nimkar, Aneel Joshi, Ashwini Joshi, Amita Nene, Shireesh Lawate, Narendra Dra-vid, Dilip Nimkar & Madhavi Potdar ended the whole se-quence of soulful songs. Shubhada & Madhavi Chouhan

rendered some excellent Ukhane also. The sound manage-ment was very well handled by Anna Dr Kirtising. Excellent refreshments arranged by the first lady Neha included Ka-chchhi Dabeli, coffee, khichadi, chutney, sweets & Masala milk. Kojagiri—A unique fellowship event

By October 7th, we have successfully completed vac-

cinating 1861 girls ( with not a single girl getting any

adverse reaction from the vaccine). Vaccination

Camps were run in different Schools such as Dada

Gujar School, Sane Guruji Vidyalaya, Muktadevi

School, Shri Shivaji Vidyalaya, Ramchandra Rathi

School, Navmaharashtra Vidyalaya, Mahatma Gandhi

Vidyalaya, Firangaimata Girls School etc. RCPM &

partner clubs conducted 11 camps at schools based

in &

around

Pune.

The 2nd

phase of

the pro-

ject, to

give se-

cond & last round of vaccine to the same set of girls,

will begin in January 2020 & will be completed by

April 2020.

In this first phase of Vaccination Activity, RCPM

efforts were further supported by RCP Chakan, RCP

Parvati, RCP Kurkumb, RCP Panvel by holding Camps,

Maharashtra Arogya Mandal by providing Medical

Support, School Management for making available

school facilities/staff during the camp and Volun-

tary/Administrative support by Rotarians/Anns from

all partner Clubs. The project also received the Best

Project Award in the district. RCPM being the prime

Club, the support pro-

vided by RCPM family

was exemplary and all

these things made eve-

rybody associated

with the project feel

extremely proud of

the project and the RCPM.

Cervical Cancer Vaccination Pro-ject : Major Global Grant Project.

In September 2018, in line with Rotary District 3131's 2018-19

focus on Woman's health, Rotary Club of Pune Met-ro, decided to take up Cervical Cancer Vaccination Project in the district. The project was to vaccinate girls (in the age group of 9 to 13) with two doses of vaccine as described by WHO. Entire cost of vaccina-tion was to be absorbed by RCPM, Rotarians, RCPM partner Clubs and Rotary International. The project idea started receiving lots of in-

terest from different clubs, district, overseas clubs,

Hospitals/schools & the project scope started ex-

panding (slowly increasing the beneficiary count to

1840 girls). Finally the Global Grant Project worth

USD 96,500, primed by RCPM & supported by 24

other Clubs from Rotary District 3131. Overseas Ro-

tary clubs from USA & Switzerland was approved in

March 2019. Funds were transferred in April 2019.

RCPM started 1st Phase of vaccination activity

in June 2019, immediately after re-opening of

Schools. Due to heavy rains in the Pune/Konkan the

speed of the project was affected.

RCPM’s Youth Services Avenue continuously endeav-ors to help students to gain knowledge in fields that are not adequately covered in their syllabi. Over the years, some schools & colleges have been approaching us for such help, especially where they need expert assistance in covering specialized topics.

Modern College of Engineering is one such institution,

with which RCPM has developed tremendous rapport,

& we conduct special programs for the students who

can benefit from expertise of RCPM members.

Our member PP Dileep Paranjpye was requested to

familiarize Electrical Engineering students with 2 di-

verse topics, viz. Quality Management & Project Man-

agement. Having vast experience in both fields as a

practicing manager as well as an educator, PP Dileep

readily agreed and prepared Power Point presentations

for both topics.

His talk at MCEO was arranged on 9th Oct 2019. Over

60 students from 3rd & 4th Year Electrical Engineering

attended his speech. Using examples of Quality Man-

agement & Project Management from various sources,

as well as examples from his personal experiences, PP

Dileep covered 3 major aspects of Quality Manage-

ment, namely Technical, Managerial and Human as-

pects. Complex subjects such as QC Tools, Statistical

Quality Control, Quality Circles, and Management Fo-

cus etc. were explained in simple terms, which could be

easily absorbed by the young audience. A measure of

this was the types of questions asked by students at

the end of sessions. This was followed by a talk on Pro-

ject Management during which covered basics of Pro-

ject Management as well as tools such as Critical Path

Method (CPM) & Programme Evaluation & Review

Technique (PERT). The animation in the ppt made it

easy for students to understand the topics which are

normally covered in syllabus of Operations Research.

On 10th of Oct. we had joint meeting with RCP Deccan Gymkhana, RCP Inspira and RCP Shaniwarwada at Sa-varkar Adhyasan Kendra, Karve road.

Dr. Madhubala Chinchalkar was the guest speaker. She spent 1 full year on Antarctica at the In-dian Research Centre, “Maitri”. Through slide show & videos she explained her journey from India to Ant-

arctica & her stay over there. She explained about the weather, ecology, summer and winter, building con-struction, human health conditions, etc. It was a thrill-ing experience. As she spent winter there, she was awarded the Polar Woman Title by Govt. of India. - By Rtn Sneha Subhedar

es.

Making malpua batter In a mixing bowl take 1 cup maida, 1 tsp saunf crushed coarsely , 1/3 tsp cardamom powder. Mix all the ingredients well. Add 3 tbsp grated khoya & 3 tbsp fresh curd, instead of khoya you can add milk powder. Add ½ cup water mix well into thick flowing batter without lumps. Rest batter for 30-40 mins. While the batter is resting, blanch some almonds & pistachios. Soak them before blanching. Slice them & keep aside. Now prepare sugar syrup. Take ½ cup sugar, add ¼ cup water to sugar and prepare sugar syrup of 1 thread consistency. Keep the syrup warm all the while. To make malpua head oil or ghee in a pan. You can deep fry or shallow fry them. Just before frying add 3 pinches of baking soda to the batter. Mix well. Now take 2 to 3 tbsp of batter and gently pour into the pan and spread the poured batter lightly with the back of the spoon. You can make 3 to 4 malpuas at a time de-pending on the size of the pan. Fry them on low to me-dium flame. When the base becomes light golden turn them. Keep turning and frying them till they are gold-en brown in colour. Remove them from the pan and spread on paper towel to remove excess oil/ghee. Then immediately put them in the warm sugar syrup and coat them with syrup. Remove them gently and place them in a serving tray. Decorate with chopped almond and pistachio slices and crushed saffron. To make malpua richer you may add one tbsp each of rabdi on top of it and then decorate with al-monds, pistachio and saffron. Rabdi should be pre-pared a day in advance and refrigerated. Always serve malpuas warm. They get chewy when cold. Enjoy !!

Empowering women is the need of the society & it is one of the thrust areas of Rotary. On October 19 & 20, 2019, a Training program was organized for ‘Empowering women through Enterprise’. This work-shop is one of the activities of our club under Vocation-al Service Avenue, which helps in training of Women of the under-privileged group of the society. The women attending the workshop had a strong will to start / sus-tain their own tiny businesses. Jagruti Seva Sanstha (an NGO) & IndSearch Management College (on Law Col-lege Road) supported this project. R/Ann. Prof. Ashwini Joshi coordinated the workshop. Ann Madhavi Kul-karni actively par-ticipated through-out this work-shop. The work-shop was inaugu-rated by Rtn. Mukund Chiplunkar, President, Rotary Club of Pune Metro. He congratulated these women participants for the interest taken and explained the need for such training to give them self-confidence and increase their decision-making abilities. Rtn. Makarand Phadke ex-plained to the participants, the contribution of Rotary and our club towards community service and vocational service in different areas. The workshop sessions included the subjects like Basic Management and Entrepreneurship Concepts, Quality and Time management, Finance & Accounts writing, Marketing Concepts, Stress Management, Bank Facilities for women. The ‘Finance & Accounts writing’ session was conducted by Rtn. PP. Padma Shahane. It

was highly appreciat-ed by par-ticipants. The ses-sion on

‘Management & Entrepreneurial concepts’ was con-ducted by Ann Prof. Ashwini Joshi. The workshop con-cluded by distributing Participation Certificates to all participants at the hands of Dr. Ashok Joshi, Director General of IndSearch .This is the consecutive Forteenth year of our club to conduct such workshop. - Rtn.
