“The Internet… is something truly good, a Gift from God.””

(H.H. Pope Francis)

The Latin PatriarchateThe Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem (LPJ) was restored in 1847, and since then is promoting the best interests of the local communities it serves. Today, the Patriarchal Diocese oversees about 150,000 faithful in four countries, Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Cyprus, covering a rich tapestry of cultures, languages, religions and traditions. Serving all with special emphasis on the support and care of indigenous Holy Land Christians remains the enduring mission of the Mother Church, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

The Village of RenehReneh is an Arab village in the Galilee, located between Nazareth and Cana of Galilee. As of 2004, Reneh is home to 15,300 residents, of which 80% are Muslim and 19.3% are Christians.

St. Joseph Parish was established in 1878 in Old Reneh together with the boys School. In 1922, a new branch of the school was opened for girls after the arrival of the first two Rosary sisters in the town. In 1927, an earthquake hit the area and Reneh was the most affected village. After this, the Christians started to build their houses in what is known today as ‘New Reneh.’ In the 50s, most people were living in New Reneh while the School and Parish remained in the Old Reneh. Subsequently, the Latin Patriarchate bought land in New Reneh and the current School was built and the name of the Parish was changed from St. Joseph to St. Joseph the Worker.

In 1971, Scouts groups for girls and boys were established and continue to operate to the present day. Different prayer groups and activities for different ages including kids, youth and old people are provided in the Parish.

IntroductionThe world is constantly changing, and ways in which we function at home, work and school are also changing. The speed at which technology has developed plays a major role in these changes. Technology is very crucial in the twenty-first century education and computers are definitely influential in our lives, and can enhance the learning process in schools in various ways. With the increasing popularity of computer technology, it is essential for the LPJ schools to support and encourage computer technology in the education systems. Computer technologies and smart boards in schools offer students greater access to information, an eager motivation to learn, an enhanced quality of class work and easy acceptance to universities and job interviews.

NeedsRelying on only one server for the whole class made the computers slow and without enough memory capacity for the students’ work. Therefore, the new renovated computer labs will be designed to provide each student with a computer and a workstation to facilitate the process of learning and work. 30 PC units will be bought in the class, including screens, computer cases, key boards and mouses, in order to accommodate a larger number of students in the classroom and offer more comfort to each user as well as an enhanced pedagogical environment.

Project DescriptionThe Latin patriarchate of Jerusalem together with the schools administration for Israel and Palestine has the initiative to upgrade and rehabilitate the computer lab at the Latin Patriarchate school of Reneh for education and learning purposes. The rehabilitation project includes purchasing 30 new PC units for the school that will serve as the center of the teaching processes, used by all grades and conducted by trained computer teachers. The Latin Patriarchate is aware of the importance of rehabilitating the computer labs in its schools and providing the students with compatible technological services.

BeneficiariesThe main beneficiaries of the project are:

• Students: Having computer classes will benefit the student’s learning process and expands their knowledge. It will help in ensuring that students are ready for college life, as well as for future jobs. It helps in creating adults who will find their place in a technologically advanced society.

• Teachers: Providing computer lessons for children will help in creating job opportunities for IT professionals and teachers alike.

• LP Schools: The computer labs will serve as a focal point for networked printers, scanners and smart boards, which will be useful for the entire school. It will help the school to provide high-quality teaching lessons and help elevate the pupil’s education status and increase their general knowledge.
