There are three kinds of ice here. The first is polar ice. It

stays frozen year-round.

The second is pack ice. It is at the edge of the polar

ice. The third is fast ice. It is all around the pack ice.

It only freezes in winter.

The word “arctic” is from the Greek word “arktos.”

It means “bear.” The Little Bear constellation is right above

the Arctic Ocean.

The Arctic Ocean is the smallest ocean on Earth. The

Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean are bigger. The Indian

Ocean and the Southern Ocean are bigger, too.

In the winter, the Arctic Ocean is in constant darkness.

In the summer, it is inconstant daylight!
