V I B E Term 4 2018 Introducing our 2019 School Captains Mitchell Booth, Jamaika Smith, Tayla Kennedy and Amelia Farrant. It is time to say goodbye. This site has gathered young people together and raised good men and women. It has welcomed families. It has seen careers begin. It was the beginning of Ballina Coast High School. It is a site that is now part of all of our history. It is a time to remember fondly the clutching of parent hands as kindergarten students enter the gates for the first time. It is a time to remember as Year 12 departed after their formal assembly. The grounds hold many memories of performance nights, sporting events, engaging lessons, friendships formed, loves and laughter, growing up and growing older. Next year we begin making a new history on the site for Ballina Coast High School in Cherry Street. Our doors will open and honour our past, embrace the present and look with optimism towards the future. We look forward to growing our learning community and celebrating all that young people bring to our lives. Thank you to our neighbours and community in East Ballina and thank you for welcoming us to Ballina island. We will do our community proud. “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” – Winnie The Pooh.

Students Teaching StudentsFour Year 9 students who are active members of the Ballina Surf Life Saving Club volunteered their time and skills to help students from Ballina Public School learn some basic rescue techniques. Matthew Tapping, Ruby Grant-Frost, Riley Green and Kirsty Graham-Jones have all successfully completed their Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue), or Bronze Medallion as it is more commonly known. This is a national qualification that allows them to participate in fun days like the one with Ballina Public School at Shaws Bay.The four students paired up and took it in turns to instruct groups of Ballina Public School kids on how to safely perform rescues using a board and a rescue tube. The Ballina Public students had a lot of fun ‘rescuing’ each other and all said they had a great day. Ruby Grant-Frost said how much she “enjoyed teaching the younger kids with their infectious enthusiasm”, Riley Green said it was “mint” and Matt Tapping won the sausage sandwich eating competition hands down.

House Emblem CompetitionBelow are the winning entries for indigenous designed emblems representing our sporting houses of Julum, Gwardi, Gargoon and Boorabi. These designs will be used in the future as the emblem for our sporting houses. Congratulations to Carter, Illarrah, Shanti and Lizzy.
