It’s that time of year again! Time to get your ride Tuned up, Blinged up and Shined up and ready to
ROLL. Bikes, Blues & BBQ is the largest motorcycle rally in the United States benefiting local charities.
Last year, it was estimated that over 400,000 people attended the rally from all 50 states and many other
countries.
BBB is also an opportunity for you to help the chapter out as it is the largest fund raiser of the year.
PTHD graciously gives us a front row booth to sell water from. From there it is up to us, we need you to
volunteer to help us sell it. At the HOG Gathering we will have a sign up sheet for shifts to help out. If
you can’t make the gathering simply email [email protected] and volunteer! Please take the
time to pitch in help your group out.
Legend has it that the origin of the term “hog”, when referring to a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, was from
the early part of the 1900s Harley’s racing team, the Wrecking Crew. They had a small pig as a mascot and
one of the riders would do victory laps with the pig sitting on the bike’s gas tank. In later years, HOG be-
came the official acronym of the Harley Owners Group and is the trading symbol of Harley-Davidson on
the New York Stock Exchange.

Greetings to all. I ran through lots of different ideas trying to come up with a topic for
my first article as your Assistant Director. Try as I might, I was unable to find the topic
that was insightful and would razzle dazzle all who read this. So, at least for this first
one, I will just speak in generalities.
Any club, group, membership is only going to be as good as the cohesiveness of the
membership. We are all different people from widely different backgrounds but that is
actually the potential strength of the chapter. We all approach a problem or task from
different directions with different ideas. Once again, a positive and a strength. The
chapter gains as a whole from these differences and viewpoints. However, it can
become a deterrent to growth and success if we let those differences become a negative
thing. If we shut our minds to varied ideas or if we try and focus on the differences….we all lose.

There is plenty of excitement in the air and quite the buzz around the PTHD dealership. The
new models are rolling in just in time for our little local rally, where we get to share our
twisty’s with riders from all over the country.
You may notice a few subtle changes with the new models. The engineers work to redesign a
part for improvements in appearance -style - appeal. Some changes are for performance –
strength. While some may also involve efficiency and economy.
You may see a few subtle changes in our Gathering place. Your leadership team strives to be
open and available to you. Great points shared and experienced at the Harley Officer Training
(HOT) are slowly being implemented. These small inputs can create more interaction – excite-
ment and input opportunity from everyone in attendance.
I really hope that you find it appealing and working too.
Pig Trail Hog Chapter is a great value for your time and money.
You can get involved and meet your new riding family and your
new BFF. If you like to ride and have fun, we are the Chapter for
you. BBB is fast approaching and several hundreds of thousands
Motorcycle Enthusiast will swarm our area. Our Hog Chapter will
help PTHD with different services, some you can get paid or volun-
teer for. Check with the dealership for opportunities as they like to use Local HOG Members.
Back to putting in and getting out, each month we have several riding and social opportunities. First Saturday
of each month we have a Chapter Gathering of Members and guests to cover the Months Activities. Short
rides, Dinner Rides, Weekend rides and overnight rides. The HOG Chapter supports events like Shelter the
Storm, Save the Girls, Rumble through the Ozarks and other Charity rides. It is a great way to support our
community.
This year we had groups go to the HOG rally in the Smokies, two different groups to Sturgis and Beartooth
Pass and this Fall our overnight is to Mountain View in October. plus we have been known to party at Bike
nights in the area, Christmas parties and maybe a Valentine or Mardi Gras, you never know.
Volunteering to be a Road Captain or work an event helps you meet new people. Serving in the Ladies of Har-
ley also a way to invest in local events and Charities like, the local Children Shelters and our First Responders,
plus they have separate events each month. Membership and Activities officers also will help you.
So step up and help your Chapter be the best in our region and in exchange meet and ride with a great group of
people that share your passion for riding and having fun.

I know it's still August as I write this up, but time is flying by. Too soon it will be
September, two major rallies, here in Arkansas and Texas; Water
Sales and Bikes, Blues and Barbecue (reminder to sign up and volun-
teer for the chapter); then our Fall Foliage Ride to Mountain View; Thanksgiving and you
guessed it Christmas. If you are wondering where I'm going with this, let me tell it's hard to
get 12 items so you can submit an order during the summer months. People don't always un-
derstand that when they order name badges in May, it might be Sept- Nov. before you can
submit the order. I thought about it last night and said to myself-- stocking stuffers for Christ-
mas. Get my drift??? Do you know someone who loves their stock-ings, but you don't know
how to tell Santa what to put in it? Buy a new name badge, it's only $10, military pin or magnet and stuff it in
the stocking after Santa leaves. They will never know the difference. See me at the gathering, before or after-
wards, text, call or email me. However, they do need to be prepaid!!

September is here and so is the best riding season of year with the weather cooling and some of the biggest riding events coming this month! Talking of HUGE events, HOG had one of the big-gest rides of the year last Sunday during the Full Moon Ride! We had 42 riders and 1 cager! The riders experienced great riding, a delicious meal and a beautiful full orange moon to guide us home. Who could ask for more? Well, how about a month filled with excitement? The Milwaukee 115 Rally, The Hot Springs Motorcycle Rally, Set the Record Ride, and Bikes, Blues and BBQ ! This is also our big fund raiser of the year so please volunteer to help us sell water if you haven’t already.

For those members that have been around for a while, if you see a face among the group that you do not recog-
nized – then please introduce yourself and help introduce them to the rest of the family.
Now for the business side:
Every Member needs to please take a moment and check your National Memberships to ensure you have one and
that it has not lapsed. Recently I’ve sent out multiple notifications and reminders for missing or lapsed National
Memberships.
In order to be a part of the local Pig Trail HOG Chapter, the requirement is that you have to be an Active Na-tional
HOG Member. Without this Active National HOG status, we are required by National HOG associa-tion to re-
move you from the local member chapter.
If you just purchased a motorcycle – the first year of your National Membership will be taken care of by the deal-
ership and that can take up to a month to get registered. If you have received your new National Mem-bership
number or if have renewed – please email the information to [email protected]
If we don't see you at the next meeting, we will see you on the road!
Are a type of custom motorcycle which emerged in California in the
late 1950s. The chopper is perhaps the most extreme of all custom styles,
often using radically modified steering angles and lengthened forks for a stretched-out appearance.
Perhaps the best known choppers are the two customized Harley-Davidsons, the “Captain America” and
“Billy Bike”, seen in the 1969 film Easy Rider.
