Stations of the cross The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The 14 devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of His last day, beginning with His condemnation. The stations are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as the individual moves from station to station. At each sta-tion, the individual recalls and meditates on a specific event from Christ's last day. Specific prayers are recited, then the individual moves to the next station until all 14 are

complete. The Stations of the Cross are commonly found in churches as a series of 14 small icons or images.

Welcome to All

You enter this Church, not as a stranger, but as a guest of God.

As a baptized person, you enter it as a son or daughter of the Father united with our brother,

Jesus Christ.

As a non-baptized person, come in as a wonderful creature of God.

This House of God, therefore, is your family home.

Come in with humility of mind; come in with joy of heart; and come with gratitude on your lips for God’s mercies.

Come in and pause in prayerful silence, so that, in the midst of a busy and

worrisome life, you may find peace and comfort.

Messages of Mercy

“My mercy is greater than your sins and those of the entire world.

Who can measure the extent of My goodness? For you I descended from heaven to earth; for you I allowed Myself to be

nailed to the cross; for you I let my Sacred Heart be pierced with a lance, thus opening wide the source of Mercy for you. Come,

then, with trust To draw graces from this fountain.” (Diary, 1485)

Prayer Group All are welcome

" In that day the offspring of Jesse will be a flag to which people rally." Isaiah 11:10

In battle, when warriors are separated from their fellow soldiers, they rally to their col-ors. There is strength and protection in numbers. Carry Jesus into life's battle because he is the banner we seek to be under. He is our rally point. Come join us Tuesday evenings in the chapel for praise and worship. Let us rally for Jesus coming into our hearts for spiritual victory. We meet from 7pm-8:30pm. All are welcome

Second Sunday of Lent February 21, 2016

RCIA - Teaching Moments: What does the word

“Viaticum” mean ? The Latin word mean-ing “with you on the way.” Viaticum refers

to communion received when one is near death. This Sacra-ment of Communion is meant to bring special comfort and strength to the person who may experience death in the near future. Immediately after the usual formula, “The Body of Christ, Amen,” the Priest adds, “May the Lord Jesus Christ protect you and lead you to eternal life,” and the response made is, “Amen,” Viaticum is given together with the Sacra-ment of the Sick when the person is really near death; if the person is not near death, Communion is not referred to as Viati-cum.

Marriage Moments:

It's Lent - a time of taking stock, self-sacrifice, and penance. Take stock of your marriage this week. Is there a sacrifice you can make for your beloved? Anything it's time to forgive?

Tagalog Corner - Philippians 3:17-20 Mga kapatid, kayo'y mangagkaisang tumulad sa akin, at tandaan ninyo ang mga nagsisilakad ng gayon, ayon sa h a l i m b a w a n g n a k i k i t a n i n y o s a a k i n . Sapagka't ang ating pagkamamamayan ay nasa langit; mula doon ay hinihintay naman natin ang Tagapagligtas, ang Panginoong Jesucristo: ( Join with others in being imitators of me, brothers and sisters and observe those who thus conduct themselves according to the model you have in us. For many, as I have often told you and now tell you even in tears, conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction. Their God is their stomach; their glory is in their shame. Their minds are occupied with earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.)

RCIA "Penitential Rite and Call to Continuing Conversion"

This weekend at the 4:00:PM Saturday Mass, we celebrate a combined rite with our Candidates who have been baptized in another Christian faith. These rites helps them to acknowledge their faults and also to recognize that they have a fuller life within our Church community. As they approach this final period of preparation to receive the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil, we ask that you continue to pray for them and embrace them. During the Lenten season, there will be a poster with the pictures of the Elect and candidates as you enter the church. When you see their picture, you will be able to put a name with a face. Please feel free to approach them and offer your sup-port as they continue their journey of faith towards full initiation into the Catholic Church. We invite you to offer your prayers for the newest members of our Church. We invite anyone who may be interested in learning more about the Church to join us on Tuesday evenings. Adults meet in the parish hall library from 7:30PM to 9:30PM. For more information on the process, please call one of the numbers listed in the directory of this bulletin.

Meditation of St. Francis of Assisi Let everyone be struck with fear, the whole world tremble, and the heavens exult when Christ, the Son of the living God, is present on the altar in the hands of a priest! O wonderful loftiness and

stupendous dignity! O sublime humility! O humble sublimity!

The Lord of the universe, God and the Son of God,

so humbles Himself that He hides Himself for our salvation under and ordinary piece of bread! See the humility of God,

brothers, and pour out your hearts before Him! Humble yourselves that you may be exalted by Him! Hold back

nothing of yourselves for yourselves, that He Who gives Himself totally to you may receive you totally!

WHO IS JESUS? GOSPEL REFLECTIONS ON THE MEANING OF

JESUS FOR US TODAY SCRIPTURE STUDY FOR WINTER/SPRING, 2016

We call Jesus the Christ, “the Anointed One,” but who really was he and why has he had such an impact on the world? His vision for the world as it should be and his knowledge of and relationship to God, his “Father,” are as compelling today as they were some 2000 years ago. Our scripture study gives an overview of what is known about Jesus from the Scrip-tures, the historical record of his time, in order to gain a more complete picture of Jesus and his message. Each week we focus on a specific image/title for Jesus through a key Gospel passage that will offer us another piece of the puzzle of who Jesus is and the meaning he has in our own lives and also in our world today, so that we can more strongly affirm that Jesus is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Our Scripture Study continues on Monday evenings, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm in the St. Augustine room of our JPII Center and for those who prefer a study during the day, Thursday mornings, from 9:00 – 10:30 am in our parish Library. There is a minimal fee for our textbook. Please bring your Bible.

For further information, please contact Mary Ann Andel at 909-987-9312 x 250.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

DIVORCED, WIDOWED, & SEPARATED WOMEN & MEN

“Yesterday is experience, tomorrow is hope…today is getting from one to the

other” Any adult who is currently experiencing (or within the last 3-4 years), a separation, divorce or widow-hood is invited to join this group, there is no age

limit. This was a much needed and active support group here at St. Peter & St. Paul from 1982-2002. Unfortunately, our spouses die and so does love, so the need for this ministry is still viable today. There will be discussions on various topics that affect the group’s needs and you will have the chance to share, if you like, with others that are having to cope with many of the same situations and emotions as you are. It takes time but you will begin to realize that there is life after death of a marriage or death of a spouse. By the bond of our Catholicism, and your ministering to each other through your sharing, trust, and respect for each other through Christ, group members will accept their situation, learn from it, heal, and forgive. You will move forward with peace and happiness in your hearts to the new plan God has for you. Please call if you would like more information.

Simple Family Traditions for Lent

1. Go to Mass as a family on Ash Wednesday. This is so great because even the smallest members of the family can have ashes.

2. Read the scripture about when Jesus goes into the desert.

3. Motivate your children to do good deeds and make sacrifices. We of-ten do the crown of thorns, but a sacri-fice jar with beans is easier to set up. Sacrifice beads also work well.

4. Give something up for Lent as a family, even if your kids are young enough that you don’t “have” to. Family members can give up candy as a blanket sacrifice, and then decide on other things. Other good “blanket sacrifices” are no music in the car, no eating out, silent “monastery” lunches, or drinking only water during Lent.

5. Set up an almsgiving box– you simply set out a box, and take 1 thing from your own pantry every day of Lent. At the end of Lent, take the box to a food pantry.

6. Set up an offering jar– all you need is a jar or piggy bank of some kind. Spare change goes into the jar for the length of Lent, and then is donated.

7. Add extra prayers to your daily life. Maybe this is extra prayers in the morning or at bedtime. If you have older kids, encourage them to set extra goals for personal prayer as well.

8. Pray the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary together- daily, weekly, whatever works for you. If this feels overwhelming with little kids, try just 1 decade.

9. Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet together- this is also a faster option than a rosary for those with little ones.

Light Lenten candles on your dinner table each night (much like an Advent wreath, but for Lent).

Parents, please make a calendar note:

Sacrament of the Sick The Sacrament of the Sick is a Sacrament offered by the Church for healing in sickness. This sickness may be physical, mental or emotional. Anyone of any age can receive the Sacrament as often as needed, but not usually not less than a 3 month period. Unfortunately, many still refer to this Sacrament as the “Last Rites” and often call the parish for a priest when an individual is

critical and close to end of life. The Church has not used the term “Last Rites” since the Vatican II Council; asking the faithful to call for a priest when in the need of Healing. One of the realities of the Church today is a priest shortage. If a call is made to the Church for the Sacrament, when someone is close to the end of life, there might not be enough time for a priest to reach the person prior to them passing away, or a priest might not be available, at that important moment. Only a priest can offer the Sacrament of the Sick. A Deacon is not permitted to administer the rite of this Sacrament because it includes the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Church will do everything possible, in case of an emergency. However, it may be difficult if it is “last minute”.

May this be a reminder to take advantage of the healing Sacraments of the Church~ For Sacrament of the Sick … Please contact the Parish Office at 909-987-9312

20,000 Reasons OneLife LA

was an Incredible Day! OneLife LA was a groundbreaking day and it had everything to do

with the powerful love and support of those who came to walk for the cause. We are overwhelmed by the support. THANK YOU! You made OneLife LA what it was. This celebration of life not only drew over 20,000 supporters, but brought some-thing special to Los Angeles. It wasn't just the day itself but the spirit of the peo-ple who marched the streets and filled Grand Park that made such a resounding impact on Southern California. It was the joy, compassion, love, talent, and an intense passion for life that left its mark. You left a mark even on the media! Coverage on ABC 7, KCAL 9, KFI AM and in the LA Times, La Opinion and so much more meant 20,000 reached millions. In addition, the event w a s c a r r i e d L I V E by EWTNand Immaculate Heart Radio, as well as covered by Guadalupe Radio, and ESNE. You proclaimed life for all to hear. God reward you .

The Marriage Enrichment Weekend Program

at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 12704 Foothill Blvd., Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91739

www.mesacredheart.com

Theme for the Weekend:

“Take My Heart, Take My Hand”

March 11, 12, and 13, 2016

Marriage Enrichment originated in New Mexico in 1974 by founder Rev. Paul M. Baca. The purpose of the Marriage Enrichment Retreat is to build happier marriages. The program is parish-oriented, which has as its goals: to enrich marriages through sharing of experiences and through reflection; to provide an opportunity to interact with other couples and experience a very real down-to-earth program in which spirituality becomes a living part of every aspect of marriage; to develop the concept of couples growing in the vocation of marriage by including God in marriage, by the sharing of their marriage, and by the sharing of their marriage with others as a sign of Christ’s love to the community; and so much more! We are limited as to the number of couples we can accommodate, so please sign up as quickly as possible because availability is on a first-come first-serve basis. There is a non-refundable $40 registration fee that is to accompany the application form (see attached page). This will cover dinner on Friday, three meals on Saturday, and break-fast and lunch on Sunday. You go home each night. The cost of the weekend will be a voluntary donation. The location of the weekend is at Sacred Heart Church in the Pope John Paul II Hall and Pope John XXIII Hall.
