In this journey we will explore three very different regions of Italy Umbria Puglia and Amalfi Often these regions are overlooked by travellers We are delighted to be featuring several night stops in each region Umbria is a province with lush rolling hills and medieval hill-top towns and is the home of truff les beautiful cheese and wine We will be staying for 6 nights in perhaps the best-preserved hill-top town of its size ndash Perugia The next region we will explore is Puglia a region very much less travelled in the lsquoheelrsquo of Italy Puglia is best known for its typically shaped lsquoTrullirsquo houses This area has some of the countryrsquos most unspoiled scenery sandy beaches and wonderful produce Again 5 nights in the same hotel We will have a single night stop in Lecce the lsquoFlorence of the Southrsquo but we will only need an overnight bag as we will return to our same room in BariThe Amalfi coast and its 50 km of magnificent coastal scenery awaits us We will enjoy a 4 night stop in Sorrento on this scenic coastline and we will enjoy a beautiful day on the Isle of Capri with its glittering blue sea We then we return to Rome for 2 nights before returning home with wonderful new insights into roads less travelled

DAY 1 MONDAY 4 MAY Depart Australia Depart Melbourne this evening on our Emirates flight to Dubai On arrival we transfer to our connecting Emirates flight to Rome
DAY 2 TUESDAY 5 MAY Arrive Rome ndash Perugia Upon our arrival into Rome Fiumcino Airport we will transfer directly to Perugia After hotel check in the rest of the day will be free at leisure Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Perugia (D)
DAY 3 WEDNESDAY 6 MAY Perugia After breakfast we meet our local guide for a half day guided tour in Perugia the capital of Umbria and one of the local hill towns and a city full of charm and history With our guide we will walk along the city walls first exploring the different strata of Rocca Paolina or Paolina Fortress the so called lsquoPerugia undergroundrsquo and then proceed to Fontana Maggiore and the Cathedral of St Lawrence Stop at a famous old fashioned but very traditional coffee shop for an espresso or a cappuccino topped with hand whipped cream The afternoon will be free at leisure or further exploration Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at our hotel in Perugia (BD)
DAY 4 THURSDAY 7 MAY Perugia ndash Assisi After breakfast we will travel to Assisi where upon arrival we will meet our local guide and enjoy a half day guided tour During the tour we will see Basilica di Santa Chiara the Temple of Minerva and the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi which is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Order of Friars Minor Conventual in Assisi After the tour we will remain in Assisi to have lunch (own arrangements) and enjoy some free time until we return to Perugia We will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in Perugia Overnight at our hotel in Perugia (BD)
DAY 5 FRIDAY 8 MAY Perugia cooking class and truffle hunting Today we travel to a local farm where we will enjoy a cooking class highlighting the history of Umbrian cooking We roll up our sleeves for hands-on preparation of a glorious meal and then enjoy the fruits of our work dining on the food we created complemented by wine and extra virgin olive oil After lunch our guide will take us on a truffle experience to discover the mysterious world of the truffle a demonstration with trained dogs will show the digging up of the truffle and we learn about its use in cooking and how to distinguish the different varieties with some tastings We also tour the farm and visit the small museum After the tour we transfer back to our hotel in Perugia for dinner at leisure and overnight (BL)
DAY 6 SATURDAY 9 MAY Perugia (wine tour) With our local guide we enjoy a half day wine tour In the renowned region of Sagrantino just outside of the city we will visit the winery and the oil mill and enjoy tastings of local wines extra virgin oil and traditional food See how oil is produced in the oil mill enter the cellar and see the prestigious Sagrantino wine ldquorestingrdquo in wooden barrels We enjoy tastings of the wine along traditional Umbrian dishes (bruschetta salami pizza and delicious cheeses and typical desserts of the region) We will also tour the vineyards with time to photograph the ancient olive trees After the tour transfer back to Perugia for free time Dinner at leisure and overnight at our hotel in Perugia (BL)
DAY 7 SUNDAY 10 MAY Perugia Spoleto Fonti del Clitunno Trevi Foligno Spello Perugia Today we depart for Spoleto Upon arrival we meet our local guide and enjoy a two-hour guided tour From the ruins of Roman temples to masterpieces of Renaissance painting that decorate the city cathedral Spoleto is home to more than 2000 years of history ripe for exploring We return to Perugia with a few ldquosurpriserdquo stops on the way back Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Perugia(BD)

DAY 10 WEDNESDAY 13 MAY Bari Alberobello Matera Bari Enjoy a full day guided tour to Alberobello and Matera Alberobello is a UNESCO World Heritage city Admire the view of the conical stone roofs Proceed to visit the two historic districts Rione Aia and Rione Monti and visit the Trullo Church and discover how the Trulli houses are built Before proceeding to Matera we will enjoy a stop in Martina Franca with a guided walking tour showing palaces and churches in rich Baroque style At Matera we visit the Sassi before returning to Bari for dinner and overnight at our hotel (BD)
DAY 11 THURSDAY 14 MAY Bari Otranto Lecce A local guide will take us on a full day guided excursion to the stunning seaside town of Otranto overlooking a stunning harbour recognized by UNESCO and named as one of the most beautiful small towns in Italy Explore the charming historical centre and visit the beautiful cathedral which boasts breathtaking mosaics and the skulls and bones of 800 martyrs It is here that St Peter is fabled to have celebrated the first western Mass and from where crusaders and knight templars left for the Holy Land Transfer to Lecce one of the jewels of Puglia with dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at our hotel in Lecce (BD)
DAY 12 FRIDAY 15 May Lecce Monopoli Pogliano al Mare Bari In Lecce we have a half day guided tour with a local guide Our first stop is a stunning 2000 year-old ancient Roman amphitheatre that once held an audience of 15000 Next watch an artisan at work creating the cityrsquos traditional papier-macirccheacute art and then explore some of the gorgeous Baroque architecture of Lecce that has led to its nickname ldquoFlorence of the Southrdquo Walk to a 16th century palace that is now a private museum with one of the cityrsquos most beautiful secret gardens On our way back to Bari we stop at the towns of Monopoli and Pogliano Al Mare Dinner at leisure and overnight at our hotel in Bari (B)
DAY 13 SATURDAY 16 MAY Bari Castel del Monte Trani Bari Begin the day by exploring the amazing Castel Del Monte one of the most sophisticated and secular buildings of the Middle Ages The giant octagonal building remains a mystery to this day Continue our tour to the award winning Tormaresca Winery and explore the port of Trani During the Middle Ages this small lively town of Jewish origin bustled with merchants and traders Visit the majestic Duomo built between 1159-1186 situated on the sea front Return to Bari for dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at our hotel (BD)

DAY 10 WEDNESDAY 13 MAY Bari Alberobello Matera Bari Enjoy a full day guided tour to Alberobello and Matera Alberobello is a UNESCO World Heritage city Admire the view of the conical stone roofs Proceed to visit the two historic districts Rione Aia and Rione Monti and visit the Trullo Church and discover how the Trulli houses are built Before proceeding to Matera we will enjoy a stop in Martina Franca with a guided walking tour showing palaces and churches in rich Baroque style At Matera we visit the Sassi before returning to Bari for dinner and overnight at our hotel (BD)
DAY 11 THURSDAY 14 MAY Bari Otranto Lecce A local guide will take us on a full day guided excursion to the stunning seaside town of Otranto overlooking a stunning harbour recognized by UNESCO and named as one of the most beautiful small towns in Italy Explore the charming historical centre and visit the beautiful cathedral which boasts breathtaking mosaics and the skulls and bones of 800 martyrs It is here that St Peter is fabled to have celebrated the first western Mass and from where crusaders and knight templars left for the Holy Land Transfer to Lecce one of the jewels of Puglia with dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at our hotel in Lecce (BD)
DAY 12 FRIDAY 15 May Lecce Monopoli Pogliano al Mare Bari In Lecce we have a half day guided tour with a local guide Our first stop is a stunning 2000 year-old ancient Roman amphitheatre that once held an audience of 15000 Next watch an artisan at work creating the cityrsquos traditional papier-macirccheacute art and then explore some of the gorgeous Baroque architecture of Lecce that has led to its nickname ldquoFlorence of the Southrdquo Walk to a 16th century palace that is now a private museum with one of the cityrsquos most beautiful secret gardens On our way back to Bari we stop at the towns of Monopoli and Pogliano Al Mare Dinner at leisure and overnight at our hotel in Bari (B)
DAY 13 SATURDAY 16 MAY Bari Castel del Monte Trani Bari Begin the day by exploring the amazing Castel Del Monte one of the most sophisticated and secular buildings of the Middle Ages The giant octagonal building remains a mystery to this day Continue our tour to the award winning Tormaresca Winery and explore the port of Trani During the Middle Ages this small lively town of Jewish origin bustled with merchants and traders Visit the majestic Duomo built between 1159-1186 situated on the sea front Return to Bari for dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at our hotel (BD)
DAY 14 SUNDAY 17 MAY Bari Amalfi Sorrento Today we depart for Amalfi Upon arrival we meet our local guide for a half day tour Visit the remarkable Duomo di SantrsquoAndrea and enjoy exploring the namesake village of the Amalfi Coast After the tour we check-in in our hotel in Sorrento for dinner and overnight (BD)

DAY 15 MONDAY 18 MAY Amalfi Coast tour - Sorrento Today we will enjoy beautiful scenery and a visit to the towns of Ravello and Positano on our tour of the Amalfi Coast After the tour we return to Sorrento for dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at our hotel in Sorrento (BD)
DAY 16 TUESDAY 19 MAY Sorrento Capri Sorrento Transfer to Sorrento pier for the hydrofoil to the beautiful island of Capri Upon arrival we meet our local guide and enjoy a half day guided tour Visit Anacapri landmarks such as Monte Solaro and Villa San Michele Afterwards there is free time for further independent sightseeing or shopping In the late afternoon return by high-speed ferry to Sorrento and to the hotel for dinner and overnight (BD)
DAY 17 WEDNESDAY 20 MAY Sorrento Today is a free day in Sorrento Overnight at our hotel in Sorrento (B)
DAY 18 THURSDAY 21 MAY Sorrento - Rome This morning we depart Sorrento for Rome Upon arrival we check in to the hotel The rest of the day is at leisure Dinner at a local restaurant in Rome and overnight in Rome (BD)
DAY 19 FRIDAY 22 MAY Rome Today we enjoy a full day guided tour We commence with a visit to the Colosseum and then discover the Capitol Hill Also visit Palatine Hill the place of foundation of Rome and the Roman Forum from the inside and then proceed with a visit to Piazza Navona Trevi Fountain the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps Our tour ends with a visit to St Peterrsquos Square and St Peterrsquos Basilica Enjoy a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant in Rome Overnight at our hotel in Rome (BD)
DAY 20 SATURDAY 23 MAY Rome departure Our adventure in Italy comes to an end today We transfer to the airport for our Emirates flight home (B)
