We have reached round four of the Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth at the prestigious Mugello raceway. The championship is still wide open, even if the major strengths at play are beginning to emerge. For sure there are many drivers who have what it takes to post race wins, but only those able to sustain a steady pace, driving maturity, and overall superior performance standards will make the real difference. The title hunt is long and, with 12 races still to be contended, the points up for grabs could revolutionize the standings.The young talents on track are gaining precious experience in competitive formula racing, also thanks to excellent mentoring by the Aci Sport Federal School. It was precisely with the mission of offering them the most valid and useful experience that the championship was planned across Italy’s most important raceways, for a top level 2015 season.

Siamo giunti al quarto appuntamento dell’Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth presso il prestigioso autodromo del Mugello. Il campionato è ancora molto aperto, anche se le forze in campo iniziano a delinearsi. Certamente sono molti i piloti che hanno i valori per ottenere vittorie di gara, ma la differenza la farà la costanza e la maturità di guida, oltre alle prestazioni assolute. La lotta per il titolo è lunga e, con ancora 12 gare da disputare, i punti in palio potrebbero stravolgere la classifi ca attuale. I giovani talenti in pista stanno imparando molto del mondo delle competizioni in monoposto, grazie anche all’ottimo tutoraggio da parte della Scuola Federale Aci Sport. È proprio nell’ottica di rendere la loro esperienza il più possibile valida e utile che si è scelto di portare il campionato nei più importanti impianti d’Italia, per una stagione 2015 di massimo livello.

In round 3 in Imola it is Estonia’s Ralf Aron (Prema Powerteam) who conquers pole position for the start of race 1 and race 3, thanks to his excellent performance in Friday’s offi cial qualifying practice, where he scores the best times in both sessions. In the fi rst long race of the weekend (18’ plus a lap), Aron maintains the lead from starts to fi nish, despite an attack on the fi rst bend by his teammate Guan Yu Zhou, who started from second on grid. Behind them, a very fast Robert Shwartzman (Mücke Motorsport) overtakes Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport), third at the green, and takes off in hot pursuit of his Chinese rival, but never manages to get close enough. Behind them, while fi fth-place starter Mauricio Baiz (Vincenzo Sospiri Racing) is forced to a drive-through for jump start, his Japanese teammate Marino Sato manages to close fourth, right behind the leaders. Nella prima gara lunga (18’ più un giro), Aron mantiene la prima posizione dall’inizio alla fi ne, nonostante un attacco alla prima curva da parte del compagno di squadra Guan Yu Zhou, partito secondo. The race 2 grid is defi ned by the arrival order of race 1, with the inversion of the top 10. The front names are thus Diego Bertonelli (RB Racing), Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport), David Beckmann (Mücke Motorsport), Giuliano Raucci (Prema Powerteam), Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport) and Bar Baruch (Israel F4).At the end it is Beckmann who wins, thanks to a fast and smart race. The fi eld registers several one-eighties, in fact, mostly due to wet conditions on the outside edges of bends, due to overnight rainfall. Guan Yu Zhou (Prema Powerteam), championship leader coming into Imola, is forced to withdraw, as are nine other drivers. Poleman Bertonelli, instead, manages to remain in the game, but in the end is only 9th. The one who takes full advantage of the recompacting effect of the safety car is Siebert, who ends second and also posts the best lap of the race (1’47.297), beating precisely the best clock-out of the winner, Beckmann (1’47.771). Baruch is third across the fi nish and also third fastest on track (1’48.187). Finally, in terms of the Woman Trophy, under contention between the Pankiewicz sisters (RB Racing), race 2 sees Wiktoria back on top (15th overall), as Julia ends off track.

La griglia di gara 2 è defi nita dall’arrivo di gara 1, con l’inversione dei primi dieci. Davanti troviamo, dunque, Diego Bertonelli (RB Racing), Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport), David Beckmann (Mücke Motorsport), Giuliano Raucci (Prema Powerteam), Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport) e Bar Baruch (Israel F4).Alla fi ne è Beckmann a vincere, grazie ad una gara veloce e intelligente. In campo, infatti, si verifi cano diversi testacoda, dovuti principalmente al bagnato nei tratti esterni alle curve, per via della pioggia caduta durante la notte. Guan Yu Zhou (Prema Powerteam), leader di campionato entrando a Imola, è costretto al ritiro, così come altri nove piloti. Il poleman Bertonelli, invece, riesce a rimanere in gioco, ma alla fi ne è solo 9°. Ad approfi ttare dell’effetto “ricompattamento” prodotto dalla safety car è, invece, Siebert, che chiude secondo e segna anche il miglior giro di gara (1’47.297), battendo proprio il vincitore Beckmann (1’47.771). A chiudere terzo c’è Baruch, che è anche il terzo più veloce (1’48.187). Nel Woman Trophy, in contesa tra le sorelle Pankiewicz (RB Racing), gara 2 vede Wiktoria tornare alla ribalta (15ma assoluta), mentre Julia fi nisce fuori pista.

Exactly as in race 1, it is the dominator of the qualifyings Ralf Aron (Prema Powerteam) who starts from pole position and from here leads relentlessly until the fi nish line, leaving his chasers with zero chances. His teammate Guan Yu Zhou and a fi erce Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport), in fact, never manage to get close enough to pose a real threat. The race thus centers on the intense duel for second place, with Vieira on Zhou until the last lap and in attack-mode more than once, trying to take advantage of the repeated compacting effects of the safety car. The point standings are starting to pinpoint the major forces on track in the Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth, with some names clearly pulling away from the group. In particular, the Prema Powerteam duo of Ralf Aron and Guan Yu Zhou have been consistently the fastest on track and the top fi nishers of the long runs (race 1 and race 3) of every round held so far, so Vallelunga, Monza and Imola. The second race of each championship weekend, where the start grid is defi ned by the order of arrival of race 1 with the inversion of the top 10, has allowed other fast drivers to win or conquer the podium, like Mücke Motorsport teammates Robert Shwartzman and David Beckmann, or Bar Baruch (Israel F4) and Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport). With 4 more rounds out of 7 to go, and so 12 races and relative point tallies, anything can still happe. For now, however, the title hunt graph shows the top two at a considerable gap from rivals, who will have to turn up the heat if they want to keep the battle open.

Si cominciano ad individuare le forze in campo nell’Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth, con alcuni piloti e team che iniziano ad allungare sugli altri. In particolare, Ralf Aron e Guan Yu Zhou del Prema Powerteam sono costantemente i più veloci in pista e vincitori di gara 1 e gara 3 in tutti gli appuntamenti svolti fi nora, ovvero Vallelunga, Monza e Imola. In gara 2, dove la griglia di partenza viene defi nita dall’ordine di arrivo di gara 1 con l’inversione dei primi dieci, trovano maggiore spazio altri piloti, comunque molto veloci. I compagni della Mücke Motorsport, Robert Shwartzman e David Beckmann, piuttosto che Bar Baruch (Israel F4) e Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport) sono, infatti, riusciti a vincere la gara breve, oppure a conquistarne il podio. Con ancora 4 appuntamenti su 7 da disputare, e quindi ben 12 gare e relativi punteggi, tutto può ancora succedere. Per ora, però, il grafi co della lotta al titolo mostra i primi due nettamente davanti agli avversari, che dovranno darsi da fare per tenere aperta la battaglia.
