OK, Who’s idea was this any-way? I think it was either Rich or Jeff but let’s face it. This was a real blast! Imagine an outfit like the John Force Race Station putting a group like ours in charge of anything let alone parking and security for their facility. Now for the event itself. We arrived quite early, but lets face it. We did need to be there first. The Pres Says...What a year 2007, is all but over, and I felt I had to write about all the Fun I had this year. I know that everybody is writing about the good things about last year and the prospects of the coming year so who am I to be different.

As I think about the events and gatherings all are memorable. The F-100 Western Nationals to Original Mikes. The funny thing is whether big or small 2 hours to 3 days its been the same. We put the truck on the road and spent time with our friends. the key word is Friends. The old trucks we drive is the admission but the people who drive them is the pay off. Just hanging around all of you is has made this year for me. Thank all of you for giving me the privilege of being your president. I look forward to seeing all of you, well not so much at 4:30 am for donut’s.

Think about this some people would call us crazy because of the things we find fun, like sitting around all day under an easy-up talking about what, Trucks, motors, paint jobs, and each other. The shows and other event’s we have been to this year were enhanced by the people we were their with. The icing on the cake is when other people think our Truck’s are cool. Like when we made that drive from Santa Maria to Morrow Bay the cars that slowed down to take pictures or wave as they went by. In most cases getting there was as much fun as being there.

Its hard for me to put into words the feeling I get when I pull into a parking lot to see Trucks parked and the drivers and passengers walking around talking and having fun especially when I park and greet all of you and It’s not just members of the club. You have to smile when you see Walt with a jar of cherry’s or Dee and Peaches, Debbie Baker in her golf cart even Bill Degain has his moments. Who can forget Craig from John Force. We all have friends we only see at car shows and to steal a line from Little Big Man, My heart soars like the eagle to see you, seems the best way to describe the effect of spending time with all of you.

I want to thank my BFF and sidekick Ed not only for all the help this year but for your wise counsel I don’t know what I would have done with out you. Most of you don’t know but we talk all most every day. Steve and Chris what can I say but thank you. I could write a book about the special times I had with you all but we don’t have space here and I don’t want to bore you.

2008 will be more fun than last year we have many things to look forward to some things we have not done before and many that we have. I don’t know about you but I can’t wait

Keep on Truckin

Jeff

2007 is history now and it was a good year for the club. We are starting the New Year will be the complete PUL 2007 board who were re-elected! I will continue to do my best for the club, working hard on having fun as a club. Thanks for the vote!

We had a very successful F100 Western Nationals in 2007. We took the lead as the largest F100 show on the West Coast! It was a club effort which made it more then another show. I can report to you that the 2008 show is well on its way. And I have already received registrations from some eager truckers who have either been or heard of the show from a truck mag or message board. One trucker from down under has already booked his flight. No, it’s not Brian but another mate who’s name is Paul George. Get your registration in early. Check out www.f100westernnationals.com for more info.

The club also increased in membership in 2007, and we had some awesome outings where many of the newest members attended and got to know many of the veteran members. Some trucking bonding going on, and that’s what makes this club fun.

I also want to encourage you to use the PUL message and photo board. It’s a nice place to share a though and post some pics from your latest show. http://www.pickupslimited.com/phpbb/index.php

Let’s make 2008 even better. So get in those trucks and drive them to the next meeting or outing. Take a friend to a cruise night and spread the word.

Happy Trucking!Ed

The John Force Holiday Show... December 2,, 2007,....by Ed Oe

The John Force Holiday Show on December 2, 2007 turned out to be an awesome show. By my count, there must have been over 800 hot rods and million spectators!! Well maybe not a million, but it sure did seem like that. At some times of the day it was wall to wall people, and the City of Yorba Linda must have been feeling the pain of traffic and parking. The surrounding areas were PACKED!! It was GREAT!

I arrived about 7:30AM and got into a long line of hot rods. There were other PUL members and F100 buddies in line, and we all parked in the F100 area. After the chairs and table were set up it was off to see the sights. I walked all over the surrounding areas and my feet were feeling the pain. There were hot rods everywhere! I even got a chance to see John Force. What a year for the Force family and team. John had some very touching words on Eric Medlen and spoke of the positive safety changes that has come from that terrible day and how those changes saved his own life in his recent accident. And there are many new changes coming to make the sport safer for all. A booth was setup to get autographs from the Force family and drivers. Jay Leno had his Tank Car there and took one of the “Best of Show” – Top 40 awards a long with two F100’s that took home awards, Bill Degain and Ron Smith.

There were the show regulars but there were also some new hot rods I haven’t seen before, like one of the FR100’s with Montana plates. What a great truck to see up close.

But in the end the Kids came out to be the biggest winners. “Chips for Kids” had a stack of unwrapped gifts that I’m sure made many kids very happy on Christmas day, and isn’t that what it’s all about.

Editors Ramblings... by Chris Travers

Let’s make things real simple this month. What does it take to make a bansi run to the Donut Shop in Huntington Beach, on any given Saturday morning, at O’Dark-30, on short notice? It’s not as easy as you might think...follow along for a day in my life!

It’s time to get goingYes, this is what I look like

at 5:00am...not too bad!

I had better check my e-mail before going too far. You never know when Ed is going to send

another message

Time is going too fast...enough e-mail

Some things just can’t wait...a short trip to the library.

WHAT TO WEAR???

Oh my God...look what time it is!

I think this one has something like 6 shots of Kikapoo Joy Juice in it

There must be at least 15 donut shops between my house and Hunting Beach...honest!

Was it worth the rush...YOU BET IT WAS

Old Town Temecula...November23-25 -- By Dan Cangro

Charles Dickens wrote, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of time, it was the age of wisdom, and it was the age of foolishness…. we had every-thing before us, we had nothing before us…” As we started on our journey, there were some hesi-tant travelers, unsure of our lodging and were not knowledgeable of the agenda but, these are normal occurrences for PUL members, and so undaunted we did not deter from having an open mind and childlike attitudes as we motored toward a whole lot of tomfoolery.

As all stories must have a starting point, this tale begins with the club members coming together from all over the map. As some PUL members met at one location to caravan at a modest sixty five miles an hour (lol), there were others that decided to get their kicks on route I-15 on their own and in pairs but with one destination in mind. As I recall there were nine fat fenders that rolled into the motel parking lot. Others drove everything from a yellow supped up Super Bee to a diesel motor home that Peaches drove because Walt and Dee had too many cherries…more about the cherries later in the story.

I think it best to outline my adventure with Ron, Donna, Cathy and I arriving at the motel. As we made an effort to gap the language barrier, we explained to the motel clerk that we were affiliated with the PUL group, at which point he promptly tried to have us pay the groups entire bill! Well I’ve got to tell ya, I like the club members but not that much! We eventually got our rooms, and since it was early in the day, we pointed our SUV east and headed toward the famed wineries and a great outdoor picnic in the grass of a picturesque building where our spirits were lifted by good company, conversation and picnic goodies.

Upon returning to Temecula, we found a sizeable contingent of the membership just down the street from our hotel, consuming large quantities of food and drink at Rosas Cantina. Everyone was full and happily walked off their broken diet caloric intake by enjoying the many antique shops and stores of Old Town. Some even took advantage of Santa’s arrival by trying to sit on his lap and get free goodies and toys. Alas, the best they could muster were free paper reindeer hats and balloon animals but, that didn’t discourage the child in any of them as they continued on their adventures into the night.

Back at the Motel, Ron and Donna opened their door to and invited everyone in to enjoy munchies and imbibe if you so desired a vari-ety of beverages. Walt brought the cherries and being good hosts and PUL members we were honor bound by membership and indi-vidual courage to try some of these little red pickled bombs. The place was rocking and the laughs continued as we partied hardy into the night. Why, I think the last party goers said goodnight at ten past nine and that’s PM by golly.

Remarkably, the next morning found every-one clear headed and ready for breakfast. That is all but one of us. You see someone of us slipped into flower print socks, that I believe belonged to his better half without knowing it and found himself red faced, explaining how it happened. With flower socks being the only casualty of the previous night, all 26 of us descended upon the local mega food breakfast counter and found the place chock full of

other folks that like good food served on jumbo platters. Not to fear, the good folks at the roadside eatery offered the patio to us and since the weather was great and the thought of herding us all to an-other place was out of the question, we planted our glutinous maximums in the patio and had another great moment in time. From there it was off the mega antique malls, thrift shops, wineries, and beyond.

As we wandered, we found two members of the San Diego club were in town and ran into and away from other members as they too were successfully doing their things. The only rule for the day was that we all meet up at Texas Lill’s for dinner at six, but before we could do that may of us ended up back at the motel for a few hours of bench racing beer and cherries. Now, my sainted mother always said, “if you can’t say anything good about someone, don’t say anything at all.” So following her advise, I will say there were some that had an adequate meal at the afore mentioned choke and puke, and there were some who did not. All was not lost as a few of those that did not enjoy the food or lack thereof, drowned their sorrows in pie and ice cream at another roadside local hangout.

Sunday morning found many of us ready to beat the holiday weekend traffic home and we were discussing that at the crack of dawn in 39 degree weather. It seems that mother-nature, who had provided perfect weekend weather, was also ready for us to leave. Let me end by saying, we had good times and foolishness! We had everything before us and we made the best of it! We also had good friends and great experiences to take with us all our days.

Until that time….Dan

GUESS WHO? This member has never backed down from a challenge yet. Someone told him that there was no way that a Toyots Prius could ever be “Dubed” out, but that was the wrong thing to say.............................Check out page 18 for the answer.

Mel’s Drive In Grand Opening!12241 Seal Beach BoulevardSeal Beach, California90740, USA www.mels-drivein.com

FROM WWW.CHOWHOUND.COM 12/14/07 and Chris TraversAfter many delays, Mel’s Drive In opened Wednesday 12/12/07 in Seal Beach on Los Alamitos Blvd. This is good news for those of us who didn’t want to see the last Parasol Restaurant (and its classic Googie style architecture) get torn down - well, a partial victory anyway. A lot of changes were made and the Parasol lights have been replaced, but the circular arrangement of the diner has been maintained. It’s not, however, a drive-in with car hop service, just walk-in (as it always was). I hope it does well and maintains its charm for families as the Parasol did for many years. The PUL gang rarely back away from food and this was no exception We were rep-resented by 4 trucks, Dan & Cathy, Gib & Marsha, Ron & Donna and me who was on the way to my day job. Food was predict-able for the first time around so we need to give these guys a month or so to figure it out. Maybe after the Donut Shop some Saturday?

The Caffeine Cruisers are a bunch of car guys much like the gang that goes to Donut Derrilicts every Saturday morning, except this is the other side of town in Tor-rance. Each Saturday morning around 7:30 (sleep is important to most people) the gathering begins and runs until around 9:00am.There were betweek 60-75 cars throughout the time we were there coming and going. The nice thing about going to these other cruise events is the different vehicles you will see. Interesting is an under-statement for the 4x4 Cadallic Fleetwood Limo what was there. Dusty, Larry and I made this visit on the way to a San Pedro junkyard run in early December.

Safety Inspections will be held on Feb. 16 at 9:00 am. Kelly Tidwell and Fran Cyrus at Pure Power! Inc. are again offering us the use of their building at 15751 Chemical Lane in Huntington Beach. This worked out very well last year for us, so were going to do it again…see the map for directions. If you don’t think your going to pass just bring money to bribe Big Foot.

• This past year we only had one Member that had his truck involved in an )accident (no name).

• I am still offering truck service at my home or even at your home. Just call and we can get together.

• If anyone having problems adjusting their right mirror, see me, I can get them all adjusted in minutes.

• I am at this time helping Abe Roybol put 3 point belts into his ‘56 with the help the mounts from Mid Fifty’s that Abe sent for (this looks easy so look for more on this in the next newsletter).

Spray Can Alley.....By Larry Lopez

Well folks, it’s a new year! It’s a time to reflect back on last year and be proud of what you accomplished, the goal you achieved, or the challenges you faced and how you over came them. For some of us, there were many challenges, more than anyone should face in a life time. To those I would like to say, you are a truly special people. When times were tough, you managed to face and over come many fears. I hope this next year bring many wonderful things too you and your family. For the rest of us, we now get a change to set new goals and a chance to make a new list of “to do list”. I’m sure that many of you will find many things to do with your trucks or other project you many have. Family should be included in many of the things you do, I know it hard to balance family life with our trucks. Like that saying goes, a family that plays together, says together. I had hoped to have my truck painted but it just didn’t happen. That is one of my biggest thing I want to try and accomplish in 2008. I wish everyone a fun and happy new year!

As you may know, all the club officers have retained there same position. I was getting a little tired of having to tell Jeff what to do and thought someone else might like a chance to poke at him but I got caught on the same wave with everyone else so I will have another year to keep Jeff in check. I don’t expect any real big changes as far as how the club will run. Jeff has always had good intension in all the things he has planed, so let’s hope nothing changes. Well after a year in office, I’m sure Ron Gray has a handle on how to run the club finances. I’m sure it was a tough learning curve but all is looking good. Keep up the good work Ron. Ed Ole will have his hands full this year. He has to compete with last years Western Nationals, which is a big task for anybody, but I’m sure he will get plenty of support for all of the club members. Of all the other guys, Rudy seems to be having fun being the club Safety officer. I’m sure he will find a few trucks with some missing bolts or nut at our next safety inspection. Oh I can’t forget Ron Jacobs. he’s gotten real good at calling roll over all the noisy people. It’s not as easy as you would think to call roll when everyone is chit chatting. It will be good to have him back.

Well I wish every the best for this New Year, take care and keep on truckin!Larry

It’s Steve Stillwell Yes it is our 2007 member of the year, Steve

Stillwell. With Steve’s job now requiring a comute all the way to Torrence every day and fuel getting close to the $4.00

per gallon, Mr. Stillwell recently opted for a slightly used Toyota Prius. With little being available

to hop these little dudes up, Steve had to put his creative hat on.

How would you like to see one of these in the Diamond Lane

some day?

And what was Steve up to about 18 years ago today? Check out his

editorial from this April 1990 issue of Truckin’ that Rudy loaned to me.

As editor of this magazine, I wonder if he had any input on the

cover design???

I’m really not to let on who created these “DUB” specials, but if you have not already figured out who it is, just think Utah. Thanks Bill for your help

When using any driving directions or map, it's a good idea to do a reality check and make sure the road still exists, watch out for construction, and follow all traffic safety precautions. This is only to be used as an aid in planning.

Yahoo! Maps - 100 S Main St, Santa Ana, CA 92701

MEETING INFORMATION:We have our business meeting on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00pm. During the last week or so of each month is when we like to drive our trucks to events or whatever we can come up with. We will find a cruise night, car show or just take a bonsai run someplace just for fun. Join us sometime!

MEETING PLACE - As you can imagine it is difficult to find a location that has safe parking for the trucks, good food and service, with a decent meeting room so that we can conduct our business and bench racing. For the January meeting we tested a new spot, Original Mike’s. This place is located smack dab in what they now call on the water tower “Downtown Orange County” at the corner of 1st and Main, a short distance from the I-5 Freeway. Since we in fact are Pickups Limited of Orange County, this seems like a natural for us.

The food test received an “A” in my book and service was very good too. Every night Original Mike’s has live music which begins at 8:00pm. Because of this we are adjusting our meeting time to begin at 7:00.
