Comparatively liberal
v
What attracts Maltese to live in UAE
The Maltese have been seeking further opportunities away from Malta since
the 1950s. As Maltese, we are known to be hardworking and easy to learn,
and have managed to carve out expat communities in some of the largest
cities in the world, most notably New York, Sydney and London, and more
recently, cities within the UAE.
What attracts Maltese to live and work in the UAE ?
Work opportunities – mainly in fields that are somewhat limited in Malta
Tax free income
Acceleration of hierarchy within the company
Comfortable lifestyle
v
What is the level of success of Maltese in UAE?
The Maltese living and working in the UAE have managed to carve out good careers
for themselves.
The 2 countries have a solid partnership which is continuously growing, with success
experienced in the economic and commercial spheres.
There are about 600 Maltese living in the UAE, working in various sectors such as
advertising, banking, airlines, hospitality, education and the financial sectors.
The Maltese have managed to excel in all walks of life
The majority are associated with Emirates Airline
Other strong work forces are in the fields of:
Aircraft maintenance
Gynaecology
Marketing
v
What makes Maltese comfortable to integrate in UAE?
The Maltese are also known to be adaptable and flexible, while adhering to a strict
work ethos. This mentality has led many of the Maltese who decided to take the
plunge and move to the UAE for further opportunities, to feel comfortable and
integrated in the community.
The key points which help the most are:
Strong work ethics
Business language being English
The Maltese are hard working by nature, as highlighted previously, thus favored by
employers
Flexibility and excellent communication skills
v
What situations do Maltese find while residing in UAE?
The UAE Government does not provide nationality so one cannot immigrate
to UAE and hence, can work only on a temporary basis for a certain period of
time. This can read as several years.
Labour laws are nothing close to what they are in Malta.
Family lifestyle is not typical Maltese. You will not find grandparents, uncles
and aunts like one would in, say, Australia, UK or in their very own backyard
in Malta.
