LicensingVisual art is reproduced in many formats from books, websites and merchandise to advertise-ments and film. IVARO acts as an intermedi-ate between copyright holders and copyright users to negotiate licenses, which allow for the reproduction of artists’ works. IVARO handles the licensing of our members creative works ensuring appropriate payment, terms and conditions for artists.

Artists Resale RightsArtists and their heirs are entitled to a share in the proceeds whenever their work resells on the art market at or above a threshold of €3,000. IVARO monitors auctions and sales of Irish art and on behalf of our members we request information and collect payments from art market professionals.

Founded in 2005, IVARO is Irelands’ copyright collecting society for visual creators. IVARO is passionate about ensuring visual creators rights are respected and appropriately reward-ed. A non-profit organisation representing over 1,500 artists and creators, IVARO manages the rights of our members through our Artists Resale Right, Copyright Licensing and RE-TURN services. Copyright can be complicated and licensing can be time consuming. IVARO does the hard work on behalf of our members, collecting and distributing royalties through our three core services:

ReturnArtists and rights holders can claim royalties from IVARO if their work has featured in a book, periodical or magazine published in Ireland. The royalties come from a collec-tive licensing scheme for photocopying. The revenue is collected and distributed to artists and rights holders once a year through our RETURN service. RETURN is available to any visual creator whose works appear in Irish publications.
