    Entrepreneurial Leadership is a

mindset. It is as relevant to a start-up

venture as to a mature business.

    Entrepreneurial leaders are

    transformational. They set ambitious

    goals for themselves and their

    organizations, and are constantly

    driven by their achievement. They

    mobilize resources, opinions and

    action towards the achievement of

    their goals. They assume full

    responsibility, personal as well as

moral, of the outcome. They have a

keen eye for opportunities and a

healthy appetite for risk. They are

    often first-movers. They relentlessly

    push the boundaries of possibilities,

in their journey of realizing the

infinite potential within. They do not

    hesitate to challenge conventional

    thinking. They shift paradigms,

    creating new insights and changing

    the rules of the game.

Entrepreneurial Leadership is what the world is looking for.

    IWSB is committed to promoting

    socially responsible Entrepreneurial

    Leadership worldwide,through innovations in curriculum

    and teaching,

    and cutting-edge research.

    Chairmans Note

    Dear IWSB aspirant,

As you go through this brochure, I am sure you will find a whole lot of excitement that makes you consider

IWSB as a place to further yourself towards your dreams over the next decade or more.

At the same time, I feel that we, as an institution, are entering a very important phase. Our first batch

comprising young and energetic boys and girls are preparing themselves for a life after IWSB. Some of them

would be re-entering the work life after a two-year study sabbatical, while the rest would get their first taste

of working lives. What is also heartwarming to note is that there are a couple of them who are choosing to

become entrepreneurs and give shape to their ideas at the IWSB Incubation Center.

    Focused on outcomes

One of the most important measures of the stature that a B-school attains is Placement. In other words, it is

measured by the respect that it commands in the eyes of corporate institutions and the leaders therein.

We shall face our first litmus test shortly. We are keenly awaiting the placement season of IWSB. While we

shall welcome some of the marquee corporates to come and recruit from our campus, we are far more focused

on ensuring that the young and the fastest-growing 50 companies take notice of us. We shall lay our bets on

the Infosys and the Google of the future. We would be keen to provide opportunities for our students in

organizations where youngsters get a lot of freedom and responsibility, sooner than later. This is best achieved

in smaller, but fast-growing companies. You will read more about it elsewhere, too, in this brochure.

    Innovation is the key

We are absolutely aware, and hence driven, by the need to be original and innovative in order to get to our

goals as an institution. The intensive and modular delivery of courses against the conventional B-school

approach, the setting up of an active Incubation Center at an early stage itself, the nation-wide Srijan by

the student body, etc., are some of the innovative steps already evident at IWSB over the past months. More

are in store as IWSB prepares to move into her own campus by the end of this calendar year.

In essence, we are getting into deeper areas of our commitment to IWSB in the current year, and we look

forward to seeing you on campus after successfully going through the selection process that may seem rather

rigorous for a young institution of this era.

    Affectionately,

    Satya Narayanan R

    (From A RETURN TO LOVE

    by Marianne Williamson)

The spirit of pursuing the knowledge of self , thatinfinite potential that each one of us possesses, above any

other pursuit is at the core of the philosophy of many

great people - Socrates, Buddha, Confucius and

    Mahatma Gandhi.

These greats did not let convention tie them down. They

questioned every orthodox belief and decided

independently if it was worth following. They were greatproponents of independence of thought, and let their

disciples arrive at the truth themselves by asking

questions that would engage them in reflection and

    open dialogue.

At IWSB, this independent approach to seeking

knowledge, the questioning of conventional wisdom and

the spirit of free inquiry and exploration, forms the

    bedrock of our academic philosophy.

The classroom at IWSB belongs to the learners in every

sense as the faculty provokes students with relevant

questions that facilitates introspection and debate

leading to learning. You will discover the joy of a

    multi-dimensional learning environment that is

collaborative, innovative and engaging, an environment

that is boundary-less and intellectually stimulating.

As a learner at IWSB, you will be challenged everyday to

know a bit more about yourself, to push your own

boundaries, and thereby, to enhance your understanding of

self, people, and the world of businesses and organizations.

IWSB initiates you into a journey of realizing your

infinite potential, and this journey of knowing thyself

    lasts your lifetime.

Our deepestfear is not that weare inadequate.

Our deepest fear isthat we are

    powerful beyondmeasure. It is our

    light, not ourdarkness, that most

    frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be

    brilliant, gorgeous,

    talented, fabulous?Actually, who are

    you not to be?

You are achild of God.Your playing

    small doesn't servethe world.

7Mr. Peter, an environmentalist, explaining the impact of biodiversity on economy - Outbound at Bhimtal.

The world of business and management is extremelycomplex. A manager is faced with a rapidly changing

environment characterized by uncertainty and factors over

which she has very little control. Adding to this complexity

is the phenomenon of globalization and the socio-cultural

    diversity of consumer markets.

Under such a scenario, the role of a manager has become

more challenging. And the process of preparing for such a

role has become more difficult. Books, theories, frameworks,

tools and techniques while being critically important for

an MBA student are by themselves not enough for her to

successfully negotiate the complex and fast-evolving

business issues. Further, most tools and techniques are

liable to become outdated with time.

The management programs at IWSB are based on curricula

shaped by the latest developments in the world of business

practice and research, and a methodology that ensures deep

    engagement and collaborative learning. The

    leadership-enabling outbound-learning modules and rural

immersion modules expose students to challenging

    situations outside the classroom.

    This pushes their own

    boundaries in the context of

    self, team, leadership,

    community and society at

    large. Each of these cosmic

    experiences, inside and

    outside, has been designed

    with the singular goal of

    helping our students become

    learners for their lifetime.

    I used to think that

    running an organization was equivalent

    to conducting a symphony orchestra.

    But I don't think that's quite it;

    it's more like jazz.

    There is more improvisation.

Poli (PGP 10) with children at the school run by students of IWSB for children of construction workers.

    Michael Gerber

    (entrepreneur, MSME guru and author)

    Entrepreneurial Ethos

At IWSB, entrepreneurial culture is a way of life. We have

embraced it whole-heartedly, and you can see it reflected in

all aspects of what we do. The entrepreneurial spirit is

embodied in our core values of Risk Taking, Openness,

Ownership, Honesty and Commitment, and Innovation.

At the core of this spirit is our commitment to foster a liberal

environment that encourages complete academic freedom

    and open debate.

Our students love this boundary-less environment where

there is an informal and open relationship between them

and the members of the faculty it redefines the role of

the latter as a friend and a facilitator. At IWSB, our

students are on a first name basis with the entire faculty,

    and even the Director.

    A Powerful Learning Experience

At IWSB, we predominantly follow the case method. As a

participant in any of our programs in Management you

would go through hundreds of case studies many of them

written by our faculty members, apart from the best ones

published and discussed in the Ivy League institutions.

    The entrepreneur

    is our visionary,

the creator in each of us.

    We're born with that

    quality and it defines our

    lives as we respond

to what we see, hear, feel,

    and experience. It is

    developed, nurtured,

and given spaceto flourish or is squelched,

    thwarted, without air or

    stimulation, and dies.

A case discussion in progress in the class

Team building exercise on an outbound learning module

Each case study presents a unique and often complex real

world situation. It provides an opportunity to our students to

wear the hat of the decision makers and to evaluate options

against the backdrop of conflicting priorities. It is through

such exercises, which bring a slice of reality inside the

classroom, that our students become adept at handling

    decision situations and implementation challenges.

The case method is a proven approach in management

education. Its greatest advantage is that these case studies

expose you to several years of real-life business knowledge

in the context of several organizations, in several countries

and industries, within just a few months.

    Collaborative Learning

Organizational decision situations seldom require you to

work alone. In fact, most likely, you would have to work with

others in reaching decisions, and it is

important to understand the bases forothers views and to make room to evolve

    consensus.

    The case method, group projects,

    seminars and our outbound programs

    provide many opportunities to collaborate

and learn from each other. This becomes a

    valuable experience, especially when

    your class comprises participants drawn

    from diverse backgrounds and

experiences. Also, it makes learning far

    more engaging and interesting.

    Cross-functional Integration

    Organizational problems dont come

with functional tags. More often, such

    situations involve multiple functions and

    sometimes run across organizational, and

    even national, boundaries.

    At IWSB, we emphasize your

understanding of the big picture and

    adopting an integrative approach to

problem solving. You will find a number

of courses in the programs being jointly

offered by two or more members of the faculty from different

functions. For example, a course on Mergers and

Acquisitions will expose you to the opportunities and

rationale (strategy), the pricing of the deal (finance), and

    the post-merger integration (change management).

What helps further in our emphasis on cross-functional

integration is our choice of cases. Most of the case studies

you would undertake in the program will involve

    enterprise-wide issues across multiple functions.

Some of the Distinguished Mentors of

    Entrepreneurship

There has been enough debate on whether entrepreneurship

can be taught in classrooms. Our belief is that it can

certainly be learned in a classroom setting, especially when

taught by some of the best entrepreneurs who have

    traveled the distance themselves.

IWSB draws upon distinguished members from the industry

as guest and visiting faculty from time to time, besides the

    eminent faculty on board.

    We believe in placing

IWSBians in the fastest growing companies.

They will find nirvana of both kinds job-satisfaction and wealth creation

    for themselves.

    Satya, Chairman, IWSB

We believe that one of the fundamental expectationsthat a management school aspirant has pertains to his or

her placement. Any B-school that hopes to build a long

term reputation must earn respect in the boardrooms of

the largest and the smartest companies. IWSB started

with that advantage on day one.

Needless to say, IWSB enjoys industry and corporate

relations that would be the envy of the best of business

schools, thanks to the long-standing reputation and

relationships that the founders and the faculty of IWSB

have. For instance, Prof Ishwar Dayal founded or held

positions in three of the first six IIMs in India and his

industry relationships are 40 years old. Many of his

pupils are now CEOs of large corporations.

Similarly, Career Launcher (the sponsoring organization of

IWSB), with a few dozen alumni from the IIMs and top

B-schools, and the faculty of IWSB are all noted

individuals with immense reputation and years of

corporate experience. They tap into their vast alumni and

corporate networks to give unmatched value to the

    students at IWSB.

While we welcome large companies to come and recruit

from our campus, as an institution we focus on building a

strong reputation for supporting young and fast-growing

companies in India, or elsewhere as a part of our

    placement process.

There are dozens of such young companies that will be

large corporations within a 10-year time horizon. In other

words, we are focused on the organizations that are today

like Infosys, Google, ICICI and Airtel were in 1995 or

1999: they were small and entrepreneurial, and the

youngsters who grew with those companies have gone on

to become the top most leaders in a decades time.

    Luxury Hues

In todays context, some examples of such companies

would be Infoedge, Su-kam, Educomp, ValueFirst,

    Sula Wines, Career Launcher, Indiagames,

Indiabulls, UTV, and so on. Some of these have

already moved from being unknown entities to

    having billion dollar valuations.

Many more are in the making. We believe that our

alumni would make a huge difference to these

companies and find nirvana of both kinds huge

job satisfaction in the freer entrepreneurial

environment, as well as wealth creation for

themselves through stocks, etc. The Center for

Career Services of IWSB works with students to

profile them, match their interests and aptitude with

possible placement opportunities to arrive at

more meaningful and enduring placements for

    our students.

In the very first year of its existence, IWSB has

been able to place its students during the summer

as interns with handsome stipends, in some of the

worlds leading as well as fastest growing

companies; in areas as diverse as education,

    technology, varied media, consulting, retail,

    logistics, varied financial markets, digital

    marketing, advertising, automobile, luxury goods,

    celebrity management, beverages, commodities and

    white goods and developmental sectors.

    Students Experiences

Kirusa exposed me to cutting-edge marketing - market

research, customer interaction and applying service

marketing in traffic growth directions. Reported to the VP,

handling a team. Ambitious project with stringent timelines

with major clients. Delivering exceptional results provided

immense confidence which I will take forth. At the end of

my project, Kirusa wanted to have the Director of IWSB on

    their advisory board.

    Navdeep Dalal

My internship at Globosport helped me realize what I want

to focus on in the near future. It enabled me to learn and

experience the various facets of the sports management

    industry.

    - Lal Muanpuia Sailo

My stint at Outlook helped me understand management

beyond the classroom. Interacting with media experts and

clients across regions exposed me to behaviour, expectations

    and cultural differences.

    Diksha Rawat

My internship at Jivox taught me that my work needs to be

my favourite hobby. Work should reflect a part of your

personality and that will happen only when you and the

people around you are having fun. Success is not business

suits, a super computer and globe-trotting. It is colours,

creativity and thinking beyond borders and patterns.

    Vibha Hegde

My internship at the MNC APL was a great learning

experience; reporting to the GM, who has vast knowledge

and deep insight into the industry and meeting clients

including many MDs and CEOs to pitch how we can add

value to their business, was terrific.

    Corporate Reactions

IWSB students delivered well on their summer project

which was aimed at confirming a few of our hypotheses on a

new market opportunity we are exploring. The project was

deliberately left unstructured, because we wanted an

unbiased view on our hypothesis. This posed a greater

challenge for the students and I was glad to see that they

were highly motivated and persistent and did a good job.

    - Arindam Bhattacherjee,

Head- Corporate Planning, Emerson - India Region

    operation of about $500mn)

IWSB students did a good job on a challenging consumerbehaviour research project for some of our up-market and

    niche magazine brands.

Shrutika Dewan, Brand Manager, Outlook India

Mansi was very quick on the uptake in analyzing and

understanding the industry we operate in.

    - Preet Dhupar, BBC India

Sahil has been an enormous resource and made

outstanding contributions in our initiatives for branding and

significantly to the entrepreneurship movement in India.

Greater Noida and a few taluqs of Aligarh district have been

locations of IWSBs involvement during the previous year.

    c. An active Incubation Center and annual mega events like

Srijan a national business plan competition. Four

students have turned entrepreneurs, six business plans are

    being incubated.

IWSB, in her eventual avatar would be known for a single

word Entrepreneurship. We will measure ourselves with

    the metrics of:

    - How many entrepreneurs have been successfully

    incubated at IWSB?

    - How many entrepreneurs have got funded on campus /

    through our incubation centre?

    - How many of the companies that go for IPO in a decade

have IWSB alumni as founders / co-founders?

    - How many of our alumni have turned social

entrepreneurs championing a larger cause and are

    celebrated by society?

This journey has already commenced with four students of

IWSB, in its very first year of existence, launching their

start ups. Each of them started putting the blueprint of their

idea into action during the summer, while their batchmates

were heading to corporations for their summer internships.

Their endeavors ranged from creating an outfit for promoting

organic farming in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh, setting

up a food processing plant in the outskirts of Assam, to

creating a venture in the commercialization sector with

a focus on grassroots innovations. All of them have

found endorsers for their ideas from the industry and

    the government.

Driving the entrepreneurial spirit at IWSB

At IWSB, we have a multiple strategy approach

    a. Micro-entrepreneurship projects, where students chooseto work with different entrepreneurs from the IWSB

eco-system a grocer, beautician, restaurant, an NGO

At IWSB, you learn not only in the classroom but alsofrom industry leaders and successful practising

professionals. Whats more, the faculty has strong

alliances with industry partners. Such engagement, which

is close and continuous, provides just the right

    environment for enabling hands-on learning.

The IWSB curriculum is enriched on a regular basis by

industry leaders visions of tomorrow. Their inputs provide

a real context to learning and allow us to validate the

currency of what we are teaching. Of course, this kind of

input on the curriculum also ensures that when it comes to

employing, the industry leaders are able to choose our

    students without any reservations.

My Journey An interactive Sessionwith a Leader

My Journey is a weekly series wherein we invite an

entrepreneurial leader to spend an evening at the

IWSB campus, sharing his/her journey, highs and lows,

successes and failures, learnings and realizations that

can be invaluable to the budding entrepreneurial leaders

    on the campus.

The sessions are aimed at achieving multiple purposes -

    a. INSPIRATION: The leaders we invite all have

entrepreneurial spirit and are drawn from disparate

fields - businessmen, eminent bureaucrats, authors,

artists. They have excelled in life, founded

organizations, initiated movements, and contributed in

    their own way to society.

    b. REALIZATION: On the industry front, we invite

founders, CEOs and able leaders of the fastest growing

companies of the country. These sessions not only help

us understand these sectors and organizations, but also

provide the leaders/CEOs an opportunity to experience

IWSB. This, in turn, opens the doors for greater

    interaction and collaboration.

    c. MOTIVATION: By relating to the real life stories of

every leader that has been through troughs before

reaching peaks, there comes a simple message that with

grit and determination, we, too, can make it happen.

Success is just a stretch away and what matters are the

goal, passion and perseverance. This series emphasizes

the need to create our own vision and provides the

motivation to strive and realize our dreams.

My Journey has seen leaders and founders of some of the

most admired companies and movements like Sanjeev

    Bikhchandani (naukri.com), Arvind Kejriwal (Magsaysay

winner and Founder, Parivartan), Osama Manzar (Digital

    Museum of Entrepreneurial Leadership (MOEL):

    Celebrating the Spirit

Museum of Entrepreneurial Leadership at IWSB is a

first-of-its-kind in India. We invite the best entrepreneurs

of our times to share with us their stories and a few of their

precious milestones, so that we may learn about their rise

to the top and what it takes to overcome obstacles and

emerge victorious. It is a place from where prospective

entrepreneurs can derive knowledge, motivation and above

all, the courage to say I can do this, too.

If I can be an achiever without being a

graduate, I am sure each one of you can really

    herald a new India.

    Mahesh Murthy, Founder Pinstorm, PassionFund,

    SeedFund, while addressing the students

during his induction into MOEL, at IWSB.

    Creating a platform for MSME

IWSB is striving to create a forum for Micro, Small and

Medium Enterprises in the area of Greater Noida to enable

the sharing of knowledge, exchange of ideas, discussion on

issues and challenges that are common to all, and brainstorm

to find solutions and also foster synergies among them. This

process creates a platform for the students of IWSB to interact

with leaders and organizations in the vicinity and also

initiates collaborative projects that will benefit the

    organizations, and IWSB, as well.

The true spirit of entrepreneurship and leadership is that

the young and aspiring generation mixes with their

generation ahead, and the generation ahead works with the

younger generation. The model is of making the world better

with the confluence of experience and energy.

    -Osama Manzar,

    Founder, Digital Empowerment Foundation,at IWSB

    Projects and Internships

Projects are a part of almost every course that you undertake

at IWSB. Many of these will require you to work with the

industry. These projects and internships provide valuable

exposure to real business problems and the platform to

practise what you learn in the classroom. Examples of such

projects are the Core Application Project (CAP) and the

    Multidisciplinary Project.

A few of the industrial, governmental, and developmental bodies that play a significant role in supporting endeavors at IWSB

Across the world, economies and markets are becomingincreasingly integrated and inter-dependent. In this

inter-connected world, it is imperative for our students to

    think and compete globally.

A few years from now, or perhaps earlier, you could be

conducting business overseas with firms in Australia or

Europe, or setting up a subsidiary of your own company in

China, or working for an MNC in Mexico or Brazil.

Given this scenario, you will find your IWSB experience

extremely useful. Besides integrating global issues as a part

of the curriculum, throughout the program we are visited by

business experts and guest speakers from different parts of

the world to speak exclusively to our participants. These

experts comprise both practising business professionals, as

well as faculty from leading international Business schools.

IWSB seeks to build partnerships with institutions of higher

learning, including leading Business schools across the

globe. We aim to develop -

Student Exchange programs with our partner institutions

Educational visits to overseas campuses as a part of

    twinning arrangements

Faculty Exchanges that would include visiting faculty from

across the world to offer various relevant courses is another

way of delivering global experience to you at IWSB.

Also, in order to provide adequate conceptual foundation for

management in the borderless world, most courses would

expose you to global business situations and cross-cultural

    issues.

    Global E-Summit: AviraQuest'09

The students got to interact with some of the top corporate

leaders from Europe and one of the luminaries of

management education from INSEAD, France. The distinguished guests were

    Prof Subramanium Rangan, INSEAD

Julian Lopez, CEO, Zurich Financial Services

Phil Bloomer, Director Campaigns and Policy, Oxfam

Agostino Galvagni, Executive Board Member, Swiss Re

Azita Owlia, Senior Vice President, APAC, Bayer

    Material Science

They talked about the business environment and challengesin Europe, issues of creating next-generation leaders in

India and shared their experiences spanning various fields

of corporate life. It was a memorable occasion for the

    students of IWSB.

    IWSBs Tie-up with Shanghai University

Asia is not only poised to be the new economic giant, but

also the seat for the evolution of new management theories

and practices. In March 2008, IWSB tied up with Shanghai

University Business School for programs on joint research,

scholar-exchange and entrepreneurship. We see this tie-up

as a gateway for entrepreneurs and academicians from India

and China to co-create value for each other.

    Global Environment Modules

The PGPM and EPM Programs at IWSB incorporate

optional modules that include a study tour to an

international destination. The key objectives of the GEM are

to give students the opportunity to gain deeper insights into

a regions economic, cultural and political environment, and

    to understand foreign business practices.

    Foreign Language

IWSB will soon be initiating language courses in German,

French, Spanish and Mandarin. This will enable students to

get acquainted with a language or two to the extent that they

can get by when traveling in any of the countries where

language becomes a barrier in communication.

The AviraQuest visit to IWSB was a great hit.

If our delegation was visiting to see the secret of

India's human capital, we saw it in you and your

fellow students. If our delegation was visiting to

see visionary leadership and citizenship, we saw

it in Satya and his devotion to the human project.

If our delegation wanted to get a sense of what

the future held for India, we saw it in the way you

and the whole campus mobilized to receive us.

    Leading Business schools around

    the world are bringing about

    fundamental changes in their

    focus, curriculum and

    methodology to align themselves

    with fast evolving realities.

Pursuing an MBA at any stage of your career and life is acritical decision. It is about looking years ahead and

beyond. After all, you will undertake an MBA only once

and your choice of the school will stay with you for the rest

    of your career.

So, as you ponder over your options, it might be useful to

    consider the following:

The business environment and issues have become

    increasingly complex in recent times

Functional knowledge and analytical tools may not be

enough to meet the complex requirements of the industry

Organizations the world over are looking for

professionals who are global in their outlook, who

consider the larger and more integrated view of

organizational issues, and who go beyond conventional

ways to create and leverage new opportunities.

In fact, leading Business schools around the world are

preparing themselves to respond to the fast evolving needs

of the business world and markets, and are bringing about

fundamental changes in their focus, curriculum and

methodology to align themselves with those needs.

At IWSB, the thought leadership provided by our faculty

and Industry Partners has gone into designing our Programs

keeping these considerations central. We believe that our

Programs will go a long way in creating leaders who would

make significant differences to organizations and the society

    they belong to.

The Postgraduate Program in Management (PGPM)

True to our promise of being relevant and at the forefront of

global developments, the PGPM has been designed with an

eye to creating global business leaders of tomorrow. It has a

unique modular structure similar to what has been recently

adopted at some of the best Business schools in the world,

such as Stanford, Yale and IMD (Lausanne).

It aims at providing comprehensive and holistic learning

through a curriculum that emphasizes rigor and analysis on

one hand, while creating numerous opportunities for

applying classroom learning to real-life business situations,

    on the other.

By the time you complete the Program, you will be more

than ready to take on the challenges of your profession.

    The Pre-Term

The two-week long Pre-Term module ensures that our

students, coming from diverse backgrounds, get fully

inducted into the Program. We promise you an action-

packed session that will help you orient yourselves for the

Program, make new friends, and get to know the campus

    and the community.

In addition to a four-day Outbound in the Himalayas,

during the Pre-Term you will go through an orientation to

the academic expectations, the IWSB culture, and the

    case method.

    The PGPM Curriculum

A lot of deep thought and intensive discussions with faculty

and industry professionals have resulted in the modular

PGPM curriculum that will transform your career.

    Business Appreciation Module (2 weeks)

Our participants in the Program come from different work

backgrounds. They bring in a wealth of experiential

knowledge into the class. But very often this knowledge has

    contextual or functional boundaries.

In the very beginning of the PGPM, you will be exposed to a

plethora of organizational situations and issues that pertain

to multiple areas and functions. This module expects you to

    explore questions such as

How does a General Manager use knowledge and data of

markets, financial reports, people resources and the

business environment to take operational and strategic

    decisions?

How is the data from different functions and business

environment integrated by a General Manager to manage

    expectations of different stakeholders?

significant contributions to society do not end at cities and

various frameworks and models that help them understand

    strategic issues.

fundamentally changed the perspectives for corporate

management. A number of factors influence decisions in

such a scenario global competition, geo-political and

cross-cultural issues. How do these issues impact the

organization of, and systems in, the work place, and policy

    formulation?

This module will help familiarize you with these emerging

    challenges and issues.

develop businesses both existing and new. In this module
