September 2018
Dear Parents and Guardians; I would like to welcome all our new students and families to the J.J. Bowlen school on behalf of all our school staff and to those returning, welcome back. We hope you all had a wonderful, restful summer and are ready for the 2018 - 2019 school year. We have adjusted our schedule in line with many of the other schools and will have a Monday to Friday schedule. This should be easier for all to follow and will have longer class blocks with three blocks in the morning and three in the afternoon. With this new schedule, our morn-ing classes will end at 11:07 am so we are trying something other schools have also found successful. We will have our ‘outside’ time first from 11:07 am to 11:27 am. Students will then come in and have their lunch at 11:30 am. Afternoon classes will begin at 11:55 am with the day con-cluding at 2:42 pm. We will also continue with our ‘Flex’ Thursday mornings where the students choose their classes on PowerSchool. We highly encourage our parents to be monitoring their choices. We will review the information to the students in the weeks ahead and to parents at the Meet the Teacher night on Thursday, September 20 at 7:00 pm. The 2018 - 2019 Guide to Education from Alberta Education for the 2018 - 2019 school year is now available online located on the Alberta Education website; www.education.alberta.ca/admin/resources/guidetoed.aspx As parents/guardians, you know how significant you are to your child’s success in school. Communication is key between the school and home, and as such if you have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact us by phone, email, note or in person. PowerSchool is a wonder-ful web-based tool to keep track of your child’s progress in school. It will have the emails to all their teachers for any clarification or questions. Finally, our School Council (parent committee) is having their Annual General Meeting on Monday, September 24 at 6:00 pm. Please join us and consider joining the Parent Council. We look forward to seeing all of you at the annual Meet The Staff Night on Thursday, September 20 at 7:00 pm.
