The Year that was .................2018-2019TDS Awareness Seminar: JAB organized Income Tax and TDS Awareness seminar at Arya Vysya Mandali. More than 60 members attended.

Price Risk Management in Bullions Seminar: MCX associated with JAB organized a workshop on price risk management in bullion seminar on 25th January 2019 at Monarch Luxur, Infantry Road, Bengaluru. 50 members attended.

Bullion Meeting at JAB Office: Bullion meeting called by N. Vidya Sagar &held at JAB Office regarding Gold bullion related issues. More than 30 bullion dealers attended.

Protest Against brutal terrorist attack in Pulwama: JAB organized a match to protest against brutal terrorist attack in Pulwama. More than 5000 people participated.

Income Tax General Awareness Seminar: JAB organized a Income Tax General Awareness seminar at Arya Vysya Mandali. More than 100 members attended.

Jnana Jyothi 1: JAB Organized Seminar about CVD and Synthetics, their identification process and treatment. Knowledge provided by: Mr. Ashok Rathod, Chairman of SDI. This was followed by Ordinance of banning unregulated deposits (Monthly saving scheme),Knowledge provided by: Mr. Harish - Advocate from DNS Law House. More than 125 Members attended.

Silver Sub Committee Meetings held at JAB Office: Silver Sub Committee has conducted several meetings to discuss & fix the uniform Silver rate and other matters pertaining to the trade. Had few meetings with refiners regarding 99 JAB Silver Seal issue & the new silver seal agreement with refiners.

The India International Jewellery Show (IIJS):- The India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) was organized from the 8th August 2019 to 12th August 2019 at NSE Grounds, Goregaon, Mumbai. The Jewellers' Association, Bengaluru in co-ordination with the GJEPC extended its support to our members for the registration and many JAB members attended the show.

Kodagu Flood Relief Fund:- The Committee had several meetings to take up some permanent infrastructure project to help the affected areas in Kodagu. Few Committee members visited kodagu & discussed about the projects.

Meeting with GJSCI: The Committee had several meetings with GJSCI personnel regarding Skill Certification Scheme of Jewellery Artisans and Sales Person. This activity would help the association to collect the data regarding the direct employment generated by the sector and help us to get better facility for our trade from the government.

Jnana Jyothi 2 (BIS Hallmarking Awareness & Unveiling of newly designed 99 JAB purity silver seal): JAB organized a seminar at FKCCI Hall on BIS Hallmarking Awareness. Knowledge provided by: Dr Raghunath Khare - PHD, IISC about the technicalities of assaying and hallmarking standards and procedures. Mr Rajkumar Jain - Kesari Hallmarking, Chennai answered the questions raised by the members. The new "JAB 99" silver seal was launched and 5 refiners received the new seal. 100 Members were attended.

60th birthday of T. Venkataramana - Senior JAB Staff: We celebrated senior staff T. Venkataramana's birthday at JAB Office. The President & other committee members attended along with JAB staff.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE 44TH ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING

Conducted on 7th October 2018Taj Yeshwanthpur, No. 2275, Tumkur Road, Yeshwanthpur, Bengaluru- 560 022.

The grand ceremony was embarked on by Mr. Ashok Rathod, welcoming the Managing Committee members on the dais.

This was followed by felicitating the vocalist Mr.Vijyendra with a token of appreciation, who invoked blessings in the ceremony.

A moment of silence was observed before going any further, marking the memory of the departed souls. This ceremony was carried forward by Mr.Ajit Gupta D S. He addressed the gathering and also read the names of the loved ones.

Mr. S. Venkatesh Babu, President was invited on the dais to render the presidential speech. He said that they have been evolving, growing, reaching, digitalizing, planning, executing and putting in their best to achieve the mission. He asserted that no matter how much one does, one doesn't feel 100% in achievement and they believe in similar lines. He proudly affirmed that they don't conduct but celebrate AGM's. Remembering the previous year, he said that though the market wasn't very vibrant, any transitional phase is painful and that they have worked with the agenda "no gain without pain." He acknowledged that there were incentives and initiatives from trade bodies and the government. He also said that they will have a bright future. He thanked the past presidents and ancestors who strived through with good positivity and said that the forefathers have toiled and reigned for 77 yrs. He announced that they propose to dedicate the last Saturday of every month as the JAB day in order to exhibit talents in house and outside. There could be in house members as speakers like the veterans Mr. Ramachandra and Mr. Naganna Also, announced that the first B2B in association with Art of Jewellery will be happening shortly. Sincere appreciation was rendered to all the directors, the secretary and the whole fraternity for electing such leaders and he thanked everybody for making the year colourful and eventful.

Mr. Ketan S Dhruv, Hon. Secretary was invited to address the gathering and present the events of the previous year. He thanked everyone for the support received during the year. The major events were called out:

1.J AB was invited by Neethi Ayog when it was developing new policies for Gold. Along with Mr. S. Venkatesh Babu and Mr. Y.S. Ravikumar, they had headed to Delhi a couple of times and had various correspondences and suggestions were given to them. From the report of that he said:

a. The gold spot exchange and the new gold monetization policy will be implemented.

b. When gold is traded on the spot, there should not be GST added to this. This will help in tax benefits and a 3 % save benefit.

c. Also signed up an MOU with National Spot Exchange, who will educate more in future.

2. There was an Awareness educational program"Vikasa"- A Chartered Accountant Mr. Surana threw some light on income tax issues. The Police Commissioner Mr. T. Suneel Kumar had also presided over. To convene this, Rajesh Exports and SSR Jewellers had come forward and were hence thanked.

3. For the property of Chickpet, as the tenants were not willing to pay higher rents as per the market appropriately, it was announced that notice will be issued to them shortly.

4. A meeting had been held with the Corporator of Chickpet to help and build a public toilet for the ladies of the Chowdeshwari Temple Street.



4. Regarding Shows, various meetings were conducted. For the Chennai and Surat shows, need to have a B2B show within Bengaluru was expressed. This will be worked upon in future.

5. JCL second edition was a huge success, thanks to team players, owners, and sponsors

6. ERP: around 60% of the work is done. The next year's registration process and election process will be much smoother. They look forward to complete that.

Mr. S. VenkateshBabu continued with confirming of the proceedings of the 43rd AGM. Since nobody had a doubt or needed clarification, it was confirmed.

Mr. R Srinivas, the Hon. Treasurer gave a report and updated the members on the audited balance sheet of the association. He asserted that the year was good and announced that 50% of the unsecured loan sought for buying of JAB Platinum Plaza was cleared. i.e., 20 Lakhs out of 40 Lakhs were cleared. Also, before the 31st March of the ensuing financial year, they were likely to clear the rest of the loan.

He reiterated that the demands that the IT dept. had made in the previous year, for two consecutive financial years has been proposed in the third one as well. But the treasurer assured that they have appealed for a waiver like done earlier and that they will try for a waiver once again so that they didn't have to pay for this demand. He also said that if everybody consented that the audited financial accounts could be passed, then they would finish that process.

As approved by the general body this was passed.

A clarification was demanded by a member from the audience. He raised that it is about one or one and a half years since the association has availed loans and demanded to know how these loans are being repaid. The president replied that keeping the basic expenditure apart, as much as possible is being repaid. The treasurer confirmed the same and added that because of the low income due to lesser exports that year, the repayment was delayed.

On being asked what efforts were taken to revive or improve the income in the present year, it was affirmed that the B2B show was being looked forward to in order to help generate such income. About Rs. 15,00,000/- was expected out of this show. Also, the Treasurer mentioned that in the new property, all the floors weren't occupied. Hence, there weren't many rents generated and that in the Chickpet property, a couple of tenants had agreed to vacate but one particular tenant has appealed and filed a petition in the court of law. Once this is resolved, the building will be vacated and refurbished. The members opined that care has to be taken while getting this building altered as they had had bitter experiences the earlier time when they tried to do the same. The president responded that care had been taken in this concern.

It was proposed by the board of members that the last year's auditors M/s Ramaraju and Co. would be appointed once again as auditors and that the same auditing fees of Rs. 25,000/- will be continued and paid the current year.

Local auditors: Mr. Goutham M Kothari of MRK Jewellers and Mr. Raghu of M/s. Raghu Jewellers were selected. Mr. Venuof M/s Jayalakshmi & Co. and Mr. Raghu of M/s Raghu Jewellers were thanked for being previous year's local auditors.



Open House discussion:

1. It was proposed by audience that auditing fees should be fixed in the AGM and it shouldn't be floating and that it should be passed.

2. There has to be a comparison between previous year and current year in the budget, auditing fees, etc.

3. It was questioned why there hasn't been a plan in the budget to repay loan. It was clarified that it will be repaid this year and this budget was meant for expenses and not for repayment of loans.

4. The membership fees for the new entrants into the association was proposed to be hiked by the audience from lifetime's fee of Rs.15, 250/- to Rs. 25,250/- and Mahaposhak's fee of Rs. 25, 000/-to Rs. 50,000/-. It was agreed upon that a notice of 2 months will be issued as an open window before this revision. The date was fixed to 31st Dec.

5. It was suggested that there should have been an appeal for TDS refundable and that it wasn't necessary to pay the four lakh odd taxes. Also, that the auditors should have taken care of the same. The treasurer confirmed that while paying the third year tax, this suggestion will be considered.

6. Mr. Sushanth, SRJ said that the expenses of SMS charges were too high and demanded to know who the vendor was and the cost per SMS and also suggested that JAB used way2sms gateway maybe used to reduce the expenses. Mr. Ravikumar clarified that for a thousand plus member base, the way2sms or such other gateways are not practical and pose issues. Moreover, they have limitations. Currently 11 paise is being charged per SMS and the vendor is M/s Access One Solutions. Mr. Ravikumar also expressed that the delivery, performance and consistency is very important.

Budget of Rs. 23,60,800/- was approved.

During this time, a few things were suggested by the audience:

" The co-opted members had to be given prominence i.e., only if they were showing equal importance and interest in the association.

" A code of conduct needs to be maintained by contestants of elections as there were stickers stuck randomly in front of other stores apart from those of the jewellers.

" Mr. B.R. Ashok Kumar of M/s. Geetha Jewellers expressed concerns over reducing negativity and bringing speakers from association in order to spread positive vibes & motivate the businessmen and stop spreading negativity. The president replied that the last saturday of the month may be observed for such purposes. For this, one of the directors expressed the concern that such occasions have not been encouraged earlier through enough registrations. He also said if the members support such initiatives with at least 10% of their effort, it will be successful.

" Mr. Sridhar brought out that the luxury brands are overpowering the gems and jewel industry today. The position of the industry has come down from 2nd to 16th or 17th position. He quoted the example of Tanishq advertisement and reinforced that the activities of the association should be transformational. He welcomed the youngsters to enter the industry and also expressed the concern that the consumers are lesser interested in gold today and that it is being sold more like commodity now. He said that a transformation is required. The industry has lost consumer confidence and that they should build that confidence. He said that the CAD issue is the biggest problem and in this regard, they are giving suggestions to the Government to ensure there will be gold monetization and improve the skills. He said that as the industry will perform, the government will also consider.

" Mr. Sampangiram requested for co-option of outsiders too. He also suggested that instead of Saturday, it is preferable to have the Saturday meets on Tuesday or Friday.



" A member suggested that the MC should be a member from within the association. During Shradanjali, ideally they should read all the names first and then mourn in silence but if they do both simultaneously, it is not appropriate and the shradanjali should always be closed with a shanthi mantra. Regarding the expenditure, more focus should be given especially to save money wherever possible and he feels they are probably lowering in the form and should maintain a stance and that those who aspire to stand for a post in the elections should be worthy of the position and should work towards progress after winning.

" The director gave a report on the activities conducted in the last year including fun and business. He expressed the fact that as there isn't good registration and participation, it is de-motivating to hold such occasions.

" Another member raised a concern that in Chickpet area, the business has come down. The numbers of customers have drastically reduced. The businessmen there, are all trying to move out from that locality. He suggested that after metro has come, the buses or mini buses should start plying from KR Market to SBM and thru Avenue Road. If the transport corporation doesn't help, the association should do this.

" A member requested the president to involve other associations and improve the transport facility to Chickpet. The president replied that such an initiative is already being done for the Swach Bharath Abhyan through WhatsApp and this will be considered too.

" The director requested the members to bring such concerns up during talks and speeches delivered in programs conducted so that they will directly reach the concerned authorities.

" Mr. B.R. Ajit Kumar of M/s. Geetha Jewells, said that there will be co-operation from the member end. The association should just consider the suggestions seriously and implement the same. He said that the presentation of the activities lack personal intimacy. If there is personal invitation, the member participation will naturally increase. He also said, the activities should be oriented towards trade. The association should not be for entertainment but be for development. He requested to arrange proactive initiatives like a 'Jewellers Day' and add an element of newness & innovation. The board should encourage members who are amateurs and support them to grow.

" Another member Mr. V.M. Manjunath of M/s. Ekadanta Jewellers asserted that he was not included even though he was eligible into the cricket tournament and also that the members suggestions are not being taken up seriously like that of the members' offer to donate two buses. At this moment, another member Sri. Suryanarayana Setty offered Rs. 50,000/- on the spot for this purpose.

" Mr. Y.S. Ravikumar pitched in at this juncture and requested Mr. V.M. Manjunath to not take this personally and that this will be particularly discussed later on. He reassured that not including him had some other reasons and were absolutely not personal. Also, he sensitized the members at this time that there have been occasions where members bring acquaintances but instead of that it will be appreciated to make them members instead keeping the interest of the growth of the association in mind.

Election Announcement:

The president requested two members to volunteer as election officers. Mr. V.M. Manjunath of M/s. Ekadanta Jewellers, Mr. T.N. Sandeep of M/s. TAP & Co. and Mr. B.R. Ajit Kumar of M/s. Geetha Jewells were chosen for the same. He requested Mr. Prashanth J Mehta to introduce the candidates.

Mr. Prashanth J Mehta began appreciating the enthusiasm of the association and said that the people were vibrant and enthusiastic about electing the right candidate. He said that election is an integral part of any democracy and that the agenda of this as per the bylaws is to conduct the election in the AGM. The modality is that out of the 12 members in the board. One third will retire every year. So, four will retire and the new four members will be elected. Some changes had been made to finish the process without issues this year. There are two colour bands: white and yellow. The process is made electronic and booths are increased. Everybody was asked to register for voting. The white bands represented those who were eligible to vote and yellow for those who are not eligible. The scanner scanned the bands and allowed for voting. After the scan, the member could reach the voting station and vote. A presentation was given on how to use the touch screen booths. Once all four



candidates were voted for, the vote was considered registered. The vote posted was supposed to be printed and had to be dropped in the polling booth.

While the demonstration and doubt clarification was in progress, the chief guest arrived. He was welcomed warmly.

The voting time was to start at 1:30 pm. Before this, the Chief Guest was welcomed on the dais and honored by the president. He said, to add to the celebration this time, they had among them someone from their own fraternity and it was none other than the Malabar Group's Chairman, Mr. M P Ahmed from Calicut along with Mr. Ashar, Managing Director of M/s. Malabar Gold and Diamonds, India operations. It was prestigiously announced that they are among the top 5 in the world. The president quoted Mr. Ahmed "Everyone is provided with the same gift of time, it's upto them to make use of it effectively."

The Chief Guest spoke in Malayalam and the same was translated by his managing director. He said that they were very happy and honored to grace this occasion and that it was such an old association. He expressed that they wanted to learn and as well as share their experience and also that they would be glad and happy to join hands with this association and work together with the industry. He said there were more than sixty lakh people living in this industry. He said that the gold they were dealing with was a representation of love and affection and is a gift to the loved ones and that India is popular for jewellery and ornaments. He stated that this industry is based on trust and sentiments and it shouldn't be lost. Even though its hard currency, the people are dealing with, in any religion and community, there are a lot of beliefs and trust connected to this. He boosted the morale of the people by saying that it's a safe investment in the world. Though rupee value has gone down in the last few months, the faith in gold has remained. "It is our responsibility to provide value as there is trust involved. We should not be competing with our own industry whereas it should be with the other industries. We should provide good offers and suggestions and keep in mind the requirement of the market while marketing. At the same time, there should be competition and unity also." He also explained the importance of transparency and accounting. He ended by assuring that "if we all are honest, we will have peace of mind." He conveyed best wishes to everyone and affirmed that if anybody needs to know anything from Malabar, they are very transparent and will be glad to answer.

Mr. Asher said that he has a relationship with Bengaluru in the past. It was in 2005 and the eight stores that opened here in Bengaluru. He said that they follow the footsteps of the chairman that they shouldn't misguide anybody and this is followed by everyone. Also, that they consider their stake holders: that is the investors, the vendor, the government, the customer and the management committee very important. He proudly asserted that they support the society by keeping back 5% to work towards the society's homes and other requirements. He expressed "lets work towards the positive things and take this to international level with Karnataka."

The president acknowledged the presence and support of Mr. Iflu Rehman, the regional head of Karnataka, Malabar Gold and Diamonds and also Mr. Sumesh Wadera, Art of Jewellery for facilitating this. The dignitaries were honored.

Mr. Sumesh Wadera was called upon stage to brief about the proposed Bengaluru Jewellery Show that was to



happen in association of JAB. He said that the manufacturing industry is growing very drastically in Bengaluru and this will be held in 2019 before Akshaya Tritiya. The logo of this proposed B2B Exhibition was unveiled by the office bearers and the dignitaries.

The sponsor of the event Mr. Chetan Kumar Mehta of M/s. Lakshmi Chains was honored as well. They were into diamonds, hardware business and real estate. He was recently honored the youngest entrepreneur by GJEPC. The unveiling of their newly launched jewellery range was done. He shared some words and thanked the dignitaries, the president, and JAB. He shared that the previous month when he went to Calicut, he met Mr. Ahmed, a beautiful soul on earth and that his hospitality is commendable. His vision increased and he learnt the more you learn you should become more humble and with regards to Mr. Asher, that he has a very charming personality and he is always smiling. That he makes the atmosphere around him beautiful. Mr. Chetankumar of M/s. Lakshmi Chains, the Main Sponsor was honored.

The voting began and at the same time lunch was also served.

The Audio Visual of the sequel logistics was played. Mr. Rajkumar, the founder director and logistics partner was invited to share a few words. He thanked JAB for giving the privilege to be associated. He also said that they were in business for 15 years and that they have a network in India and outside. Also, that they have offices in about 50 locations. They primarily work with banks, jewellers and imports & exports. They also do life science movements and look forward to associate in future too. He was honored by Mr. Ketan S Dhruv.

Then the GIA AV was shown. Mr. Gentesh Mathew shared a few words as well. He said that the Gemological Institute of America is into education. They offer courses related to jewels and gems. They also issue certificates and that they have labs in Surat and in Mumbai. Mr. Ashok Rathod honoured Mr. Gentesh Mathew of GIA.

Mr. Muliya Keshav Bhat spoke about the Kodagu relief fund with respect to the 15th August flood devastation. He said so much was the downpour and as much was the flow of contribution in different ways. He asserted that Coorg is reviving again. He also thanked Ramachandrapura Mutt and Vijay Gems who have helped immensely. He said that after the devastation, in order to recuperate with the damage, 1500 to 2000 houses need to build and about six lakh rupees each will be borne by the government. Four lakhs each have to be donated by donors. The model houses were shown and said that the localities will select the houses or the government will sanction six lakhs to the person and he can build as per his requirement. 800 homes have been sanctioned and 1600 homes have no approach to them. That there is complete support from the Kodagu Co-operative Society. The president expressed that from the Association, they prefer to provide hospitals, schools or such services rather than houses out of the funds collected.

Second sequence of the day was presented and sponsored by Mr. Goutham M Kothari of M/s. MRK Gold LLP.

Third sequence of the fashion show was sponsored by Mr. Suresh Kumar Ganna of M/s. S K Jewels.

Fourth and last sequence of the fashion show was presented by M/s. Lakshmi Chains, a parent company of M/s. Lakshmi Diamonds along with Ms. Satvika Appaiah being the female show stopper, the lead heroine in upcoming Kannada and Tamil movies and a brand ambassador for women cabs also with Mr. Santhosh, the male show stopper, with a solid modelling career. Ms. Shilpi Chaudhury and the show stoppers were felicitated.

Ms. Shilpi Chaudhury addressed the audience and said "it's great honour to showcase my humble work in front of the artisans of India" and that this time, there was a special request stating that the presentation should be oriented towards showcasing jewellery. Though, she usually does high fashion profiles, this time, she has tailor made it to suit the requirement of JAB.
