up with these urban monsters.Just like this extreme new H2,jacked up 14 inches.Painstakingly put together bythe wizards at Precision Soundin Chino Hills, California, it fea-tures a showcase multimediasystem using a variety of highquality brands, illustrating justhow far from stock one cantake GM’s popular new SUV.

H2 Whoah!Before getting to the goodstuff (depending on how oneviews efforts such as this), a lit-tle background detail is inorder. Firstly, Manny Valencio,the owner of this H2 is nostranger to lifted, over-the-topSUVs. He’s also the owner of

CTL Motorsports in Californiaand is well versed in the processof installing suspensionupgrades. In the case of his newHummer H2, it’s of the 14-inchvariety from Bulletproof. Thiskit was fitted at his workshopand augmented with 2.0 FoxRacing Shox, billet shock clampsand stainless steel brake lines.

For extra gleam and maxi-mum visual impact AnaheimPlating in Anaheim, Californiachromed all the underbody sus-pension components. This isnicely offset with the framepainted to match the truck’sbold yellow exterior by SantiniPaint and Body Werks inWestminster, California whoalso sanded and painted all of

the exterior and reworked theinterior trim.

Other modifications, sometypical of more mainstreamH2s include a custom billetgrille, rear bumper billet trim,billet covers over the rear taillights, side marker and rearroof lights trimmed out in billetand billet pull handles to openthe front hood, all provided byB-Cool Billets.

As with most modified vehi-cles, work is never quite com-plete and on the upgradeagenda are four essentialKodiak Sidewinder electricsteps, and a stainless steel wraparound front bumper toreplace factory plastic one fromAmerican Outfitters.

Therehave been quite a few hotHummers since their civilianrelease, with many ownerschoosing to convert theSpartan interior into multime-dia sound stages and dumpthem on their arse.

Desert StormerUnder the Kasada carbon-

fibre hood scoop and capsresides the fundamentallystock standard 6-litre VortecV8, although Manny also hasplans to strap on a Kenne-Bellsupercharger shortly. However,at present it only benefits fromthe installation of a Volant coolair intake and mass air flowsensor. The underhood com-

partment is dressed up with aNology Hot Wire ignition leadsand Beru spark plugs.Additional drive line modsinstalled by include power slotrotors by Power Performanceand a stainless steel cat-backexhaust system from theexperts at Magnaflow.

Gomez Custom Upholsteryin Walnut, California was calledin to bring the H2’s interior upto show truck standards. Thisincluded a replacement head-liner stitched in black suedeand the seats covered in match-ing black suede with LouisVuitton inserts. Santini Paintand Body Werks coated all ofthe dash and console trim inblack lacquer while the pillarposts and custom fabricatedfibre-glass speaker enclosureswere molded by PrecisionSound are stitched up byGomez in tan leather, to lookas sweet as they sound. If the interior contains a

dominant element it has to bethe five separate 10.5-inchEigerVision flip-down LCDmonitors. One replaces the rearview mirror and displays thewide-angle view from theHitchCam rearview camera,which is an essential elementgiven the H2’s notoriously poorrearward view from the driver’sseat, made worse by theextreme lift. A second over-head monitor gives the rearseat passengers a view of theirown while three additionalmonitors are mounted abovethe amplifier/subwoofer enclo-sure at the rear of the vehicle.

The video/game consoleswitching system was custombuilt by Precision Sound’s DarylGrace and integrates theEigerVision DVD player installedon the passenger side of the cen-tre stack and the Sony Play-Station2 built into the rear of thecentre console for easy access bythe rear seat passengers.

Mixing It UpThe main control point of

the audio system is a lovelyPanasonic CQ-DS8024 GhostFace CD receiver, installed inthe factory location. With itsblacked-out front panel sur-rounded by the smooth black

gloss finished bezel, the sourceunit almost disappears fromview when not powered. Gracespecified the CQ-DS8024 forthe ease of navigation throughits myriad functions. Its auxil-iary audio input also allows forthe audio feed from the videoto go directly into the source,eliminating the need for a low-fi FM modulator.

The dark nature of the H2’scavernous interior was bright-ened up considerably with yel-low LED lighting choreo-graphed with Varad con-trollers. Additional illumina-tion effects incorporated otherVarad LED light bars through-out the truck. Underneath thebody are eight LED light barswith additional units under theseats and dash and throughoutthe interior. Also included areLED accent kits in each air vent,with four up front and two inthe rear. Light bars are alsoused in the rear enclosure giv-ing the Plexiglas window rearillumination. Mike Caldwell,Steve Failey and Chris Francoworked on the installationalong with Precision Sound’sowner Daryl Grace.

which supplied two powerful404 amplifiers for the front andrear door-mounted componentspeaker sets and two even morepowerful 600D digital amplifiersfor the four P1-12D subwoofersthat dominate the rear enclo-sure. EFX by Scosche provided allof the cables and power man-agement for the system, much ofwhich is showcased by the rearenclosure. This includes six PODIbattery terminals, four PDFW2Ipower distribution blocks, nineANL fuse links, a PMBC200 200amp multi-battery contactor, 2-gauge EFX2 power and groundcable, along with ATW seriesRCA platinum barrel intercon-nect cables for all audio andvideo signals. There are also fourPDB0I power distribution blocksand two P2QB high currentquick disconnects to connect a110 power supply at shows.

All of this power manage-ment is necessary and is furtherenhanced with the inclusion ofa dual battery system. Thetrucks two rear batteries runthe complete audio and videosystem and are isolated fromthe main battery in the front.Once started, the solenoid con-

nects the rear two batterieswith the main, allowing thealternator to charge back upany power that was used in therear batteries.

Certainly, the Hummer H2has made quite an impact sinceits introduction a little over ayear ago. Its upgrade potentialhas been maximized due to itsproven GM drivetrain, withparts already available on theshelf for the Tahoe, Yukon andSuburban for modifications tothe suspension as well as thewealth of components avail-able to up the output of theVortec V8. Where this H2stands apart from the rest isthat it combines the 14-inch liftwith an interior finished withunexpectedly civilised touchesof luxury and one of the mostcomprehensive audiovisualinstallations you’re likely tofind anywhere.
