Slide 2 LEXIS-NEXIS LexisNexis Academic is a full text database covering hundreds of North American and international newspapers, magazines, and other information resources, focusing primarily on news, legal, and business information. The legal information includes U.S. federal, state and international law codes and regulations, as well as regulatory information, case law, patent information, and career information. The database is text only -- no images are available. Slide 5 LEXIS-NEXIS Scroll down the page and click the Lexis- Nexis link. Slide 6 SEARCHING FROM HOME First Time Users: First time users must have their ID validated at the Circulation Desk. Type in your 14-digit CCNY ID barcode Hit Submit Fill in required fields Then sign in as a Return User Return Users: Sign in with email and password you created Hit Submit Slide 7 LEXIS-NEXIS From the menu page you have the choice of going into the following databases: News Legal Business People Slide 8 LEXIS-NEXIS Click Easy Search form if you just need a quick answer to a simple query. Click Power Search form when you need broad flexibility not available on other search.forms. Slide 9 LEXIS-NEXIS News To view Newspapers and magazines, including major publications from the U.S. and around the world and local publications from all 50 states click News. Slide 10 LEXIS-NEXIS News Searching News Take the following steps to find a NEWSPAPER article from WITHIN THE LAST YEAR that discusses WORLD TRADE CENTER AIR QUALITY. Click the radio button in front of "Terms and Connectors". The screen changes to one below. Enter WORLD TRADE CENTER in the first "Enter Search Terms" field. Select "Anywhere in the document" from the adjacent drop-down list. Slide 11 LEXIS-NEXIS News Searching News continued Enter AIR QUALITY in the "Enter Search Terms" field. Select "Anywhere in the document" from the adjacent drop-down list. Select NEWS" from the drop-down list in the "Select Sources" field. Select the date in the pull- down menu next to Specify Date. Click the title of the article to view the full- text of the article. Slide 13 LEXIS-NEXIS Searching News continued Viewing, Printing, Exporting You can view the full- text online If you want to print, email, save, or export the article to a bibliographic reference database, check the box next to the title. Click one of the icons on top right to print, save, email, or export to a bibliographic reference database. Slide 14 Email Enter your e-mail address here. You may also enter additional information about the article you are sending to your e- mail account. Click Send. Enter office ( senator and New York) in the Additional Terms field. Select "Member Biographical Profiles - Current Congress" from the Select Sources drop-down list.
