Few venues truly make an impact like Boggo Road Jail. The towering cellblocks and imposing walls of the prison make a dramatic backdrop for any event.

Boggo Road Jail is a licensed event venue - one of the most unique places in Brisbane to hold your special event, birthday or function. The former prison is heritage-listed and an important historic site, hirers need to be aware there are special considerations when using the site and to ensure that the Gaol is not damaged in any way. Holding an event here is a special and amazing experience.

To protect the heritage site, everything is setup every time especially for your event - tables, chairs, bar, and cooking facilities - using licensed caterers - keeping the prison is as it was when it officially closed 25 years ago - a time capsule of the past. “Boggo” will create a lasting memory for your guests as it did for Her (and His) Majesty’s guests. The Jail can host events from 40 - 200 guests.

Why choose Boggo Road Jail?

The Jail is not comparable to a local hall, pub or hotel. Many hotels and pubs offer room hire or a discounted event space. They also require minimum spending on food and drinks - usually $1000 - $1500. They do not offer BYO.

Halls are another option for many people, however you will be required to pay a bond, organise chairs, tables, cutlery, catering, drinks, tablecloths, cleaning and security. Our Jail Package is all-inclusive. You do not have to do anything except turn up and have an unforgettable experience.

Other historic venues to consider for your event include Newstead House, Old Museum at Bowen Hills, Customs House, City Hall. Boggo Road is a very reasonably priced historic experience.

Boggo Road Jail - Events Hire

Celebrating a birthday or anniversary with a small group of friends and family? Dine, party or catch up in one of the original cellblocks or the atmospheric gatehouse, an authentic prison yard or for large groups, the Circle in the centre of the Jail, surrounded by the towering cellblocks. Our Jail Package for $69.95pp includes as standard, a delicious two-course BBQ prepared and cooked onsite. All the extras - dining tables, chairs, cutlery, security, cleaning and amenities - are inclusive. A 30 minute guided tour of the gaol for all guests is included.

Available for Christmas functions in November and December is our all-inclusive Christmas Jail Package for $79.95pp. This includes as standard - a 30 minute guided tour of the gaol, souvenir Gaol Key (a replica of the key to iconic No. 3 Tower, seen from Annerley Road) for each guest, a delicious two-course BBQ prepared and cooked onsite. All the extras - dining tables, chairs, cutlery, security, cleaning and amenities - are included. We can include Jail postcards for $1pp for you to post out to your invitees to join you inside - all you have to do is choose the date for your event. Your group will be allocated a cellblock, gatehouse or the Circle - based on the number of people - and depending on availability.

Our fully staffed and licensed on-site bar supplies a wide variety of beer, wine and spirits - at very reasonable prices. If you have a budget in mind, a cash bar or on-consumption bar is available.

Exclusive hire of Boggo Road Jail for your event can be arranged for groups of 100 persons or more. Bespoke events - can also be organised for groups of 100 persons or more.

Boggo Road Jail is a dramatic backdrop with city views and many locations within the gaol and surrounds to capture the moments from your special day. We offer a variety of areas to hold your wedding or commitment ceremony, as well as spaces for cocktail or sit down receptions.

Exclusive Hire 100-200 pax

Exclusive hire of the jail is available for events of 100 or more guests. This includes both indoor and outdoor areas.

Cell Block 40-50 pax (indoors)

Hold your birthday or special event indoors in an original Cellblock - for events up to 50 people.

The Circle 50-200 pax (outdoors)

Surround your event with the looming cell blocks in the circle. A perfect place for events from 50 to 200 guests.

The Gatehouse 40-50 pax (indoors)

The main point of entry and exit into the prison with it’s iconic gates - perfect place to dance,wine & dine.

Gaol Forecourt 50-200 pax (outdoors)

This large open area in front of the prison provides views of Brisbane’s city skyline with the dramatic backdrop of the Jail.

Tours or Reenactments

Want to really experience Boggo Road? Your group can experience the jail via a group tour. Tours may be accompanied by re-enactments by the “Prison Players” who bring “Boggo” back to life.

Bespoke Events ~ External catering / BYO /alcohol serviceWanting create your own amazing event in a unique location? We can organise a “Bespoke Boggo Road Event” for you. Minimum bookings of 40 or more can organise their own external catering, BYO or alcohol service. Our price per person includes 4 hour jail hire, external catering/ BYO /alcohol service fee. Remember - we offer packages that include tours, catering, tables, chairs etc.

Insurance All events require public liability of $20 million coverage.

Security Security is required for all events where alcohol is to be consumed.If you are not serving alcohol, security is not re-quired. Security is organised by the Jail Event Coordinator and must be Jail supplied security. Own professional security cannot be arranged. Rates - $99 per hour. 1 x security guard required for every 75 guests. For events of 150 + 1x security guard for every 50 guests is required. Cleaning Fees / Toilets A cleaning fee is charged for all bespoke events. $75 per hour 2 hours minimum. Extra toilets for groups of more than 100 persons must be organised at cost of hirer.

Drop off and Set Up Event hire includes a 1 hour drop-offs prior to your event and 1 hour setup prior to the commencement of event. Additional Bump in/ Bump out time may be able to be organised - rates of $145 per hour for additional time. Vehicles may enter the Gaol to drop off equipment, but must vacate the site prior to the start time of the event.
