A ‘hidden bar’ and ’sneaky disco’… the people at The Apartment Group needed a vibrant brand for their latest venture, Madame Koo.

With launch night fast approaching, we developed a striking logo, incorporating brush-scripted text in vivid reds and golds to reflect the Far Eastern theme and a touch of the Orient. Delicate ornamental patterning and flourishes add a feminine touch that even Madame Koo would approve of.

At Jam Jar we have been privileged to work alongside great clients who understand the value of aligning their brand with the values and direction of their business. We design brand identities that deliver an experience, offer a promise and create a memory.

prudhoe medical groupnaming, re-branding & marketing

Formerly, ‘Castle Surgery’, we delivered an extensive re-branding and marketing exercise to launch the all new ‘Prudhoe Medical Group’.

This fresh brand incorporates building block and turret graphical devices, creating visual links back to the original ‘Castle Surgery’ identity. A charming series of character-led flyers with a handy ‘keepsake’ card, helps communicate their friendly, professionalservice whilst introducing the availability of new services to patients.

‘Delivering an experience, creating an Impression’. Jam Jar focused upon delivering a strong brand message, evocative photography, elegant design and richness of colour. seven storiesillustrated facade design

Together with a team of highly skilled and creative professionals, we created the exterior graphics for the Seven Stories illustrated contemporary façade.

By taking the theme of ‘journeys’, expressive marks and imaginative text we sensitively linked the diverse illustrative styles of the country’s leading children’s book illustrators including Quentin Blake, Shirley Hughes and Jan Pienkowski.

The Seven Stories building was awarded the Centre Vision Award. We are very proud to have played a part in helping to create thisunique building, where children and parents can celebrate the joyof children’s books.

At Jam Jar we understand the importance of first and lasting impressions. Whether it is in the form of printed marketing materials, advertising or simply your business card, we combine intelligent design with original concepts to make a positive and lasting impact.

It’s once again time to celebrate the success of businesses in East Durhamwith EDBS’s Celebration or Enterprise Awards 2010. The event is held every year in November during Global Entrepreneurship week and is the perfect time for EDBS to

highlight those new and established businesses in our region, which are makinga big difference to the economy of East Durham.

This year the event, sponsored by Barclay’s Bank Plc was held at the Hallgarth Manor Hotel, Pittington on the 17th of November 2010 and with over 150 people in attendance there was an air of excitement all around waiting to find out who would win a coveted EDBS Business Award.

The application process had been improved to make it easier for busy businesses to enter and the categories widened to allow established businesses to compete alongside new start up businesses. The 9 awards included the introduction of 3 new categories, Apprentice Employer of the Year, Outstanding Customer Service and the Best Brand Award, with these new awards the competition was higher than ever.

Peter Chapman, EDBS Chief Executive commented “this year we saw a vast increase in the number of entries for the business awards, which just shows that companies within East Durham are realising the benefit of positively promoting their business achievements”.

The evening began at 7:30pm with a welcome reception and 15 minutes of networking providing a chance for all the businesses to get to know each other before Peter Chapman officially opened the event.

During the evening guests were entertained by Magician Paul Lytton who bedazzled with a number of magic tricks that still have EDBS Staff members baffled, before Karen Humble took to the stage to give a inspirational speech which included some invaluable business advice and then onto the award ceremony.

edbs...start up. develop. grow.

We developed the new EDBS logo and growth icon, abbreviating the existing name and introducing a strap line to reflect their ethos, ‘start up, develop, grow.’

We have already seen the successful application of the brand, everything from stationery and marketing materials to cupcakesand candy rock!

East Durham Business Service, (EDBS) helps support the start up and growth of businesses in the East Durham area.

Our brief was to refresh the well established EDBS brand, making the identity more engaging and flexibleto apply.

With this in mind, Jam Jar enhanced the EDBS colour palette, typestyles and tone of voice, introducing contemporary icons, graphic devices and strap line.

edbs apprenticeships...stand out from the crowd

A quirky identity that sits alongside the new EDBS brand and undoubtedly brings a smile to the faces of its target audience.

Our ‘line up’ of apprentices lead the way. Playing upon stereotypical characteristics, let us introduce you to, a hairdresser with her straightening irons, a plumber with a u-bend and next in line, a chef with his chopper!

As demonstrated on a range of engaging applications the brandand character apprentices really come into their own. These include a web site, brochures, pocket guides, pens, note pads, key rings, and plant pots.

sareli jewellerywww.sareli.co.uk

Sareli is a new business start-up specialising in bespoke handmade jewellery designs.

To complement the brand’s precious metals and jewels, Jam Jar introduced a colour palette of aqua blue and charcoal grey. A freehand script logo together with decorative patterning, gives a romantic and indulgent feel to the overall brand.

Sareli brand identity was successfully applied to stationery, product packaging and labelling. Our favourite application is to the business’s e-commerce web site - consistent branding, clear product information, simple navigation and more importantly intuitive search and shopping facilities.

As with all of our web sites, www.sareli.co.uk is fully content managed, giving the business freedom to update and maintain their web site.

xenomulti-user portal

The Xeno Group asked Jam Jar to help design and develop their new ‘Moodle’ web portal to serve as a first point ofonline learning for children and educationalists.

The brief was to develop a ‘theme’ for each of the three user groups – primary, secondary and adults. Icon sets were created for each, styled as 3D buttons with bold, recognisable symbols. The primary icon set incorporates Xeno ‘beings’, adding interest for younger children.

At Jam Jar we have provided multimedia content as part of larger projects or stand alone commissions.

We are always interested in engaging, multimedia projects ranging from 3D graphics and modelling to software development, photography and animation.

When delivering web ‘portals’, we offer multimedia services to help engage and enhance the user experience. Jam Jar has developed web portal designs and multimedia content for businesses, schools and local authorities.

skills to grownorth east higher level skills working group

Skills to Grow NE is an initiative, developed by the North East Higher Level Skills Working Group to help businesses grow through higher level skills.

The project team appointed Jam Jar to consult on technical and design solutions. Jam Jar provided technical and design consultancy over a five month period in which we developed the Skills to Grow NE brand identity, exploratory implementation of the web portal and a host of technical documents to support the tender process.

We are excited about working with the project team, overseeing the development of the final web portal and the future expansion of the portal over the next two years.

shoo fly publishing branding, design & print, illustration, multimedia & web

We worked with Shoo Fly Publishing to establish a brand now at the fore-front of educational publishing; one which oozes creativity, high quality design/content and demonstrates that learning can be fun as well as helping us to grow.

Working alongside Shoo Fly’s Creative Director, we delivered custom design and software development that has resulted in the publication of award winning software resources; an explosion of colour, quirky graphics and animation bring the softwareto life.

‘imagine a world...where snails can sing’

We created a library of software titles including four award winning ‘Connected Learning Resources’ and twice award winning‘The Three Little Cowboy Builders’ 3D interactive pop-up book.

In addition, we supported the development of Shoo Fly’s ‘Virtual Learning Environment’ compatible, SCORM packages.

The development of Shoo Fly’s two web sites reflect the creativity that is at the heart of their resources, while interactive demonstrations, mini-games, video and downloadable content extend the learning resources and support teachers in making purchasing decisions.
