    JAM Newsletter November 2013

One of the big themes this year for JAM has been clarifying the win. Taken from the book 7

Practices of E!ective Ministryby Andy Stanley this has been a book that has been a compass for

our team and sta!. We have gone through this book both last year and this year with the students

that join us. The concept of clarifying the win comes from the idea that there has to be a

scoreboard so that you know whether you are making progress in your goals and objectives

otherwise, team moral and momentum can wane. In business and sports it is easier to clarify the

win but in ministry it can sometimes be unclear and murky.

In this end of the year issue of our JAM newsletter we are going to showcase some of the wins

through stories of what God has done in the lives of MIT students, JAM year students and summer

interns. We hope you enjoy this issue and are able to join in celebrating how God has changed the

lives of these few and hopefully, in time, will impact the kingdom in big win ways. Enjoy!

    Missionaries In Training M.I.T.

Throughout my time in M.I.T. I

    have learned that disciple-

    makingcanbethekeytowinning

young people for Christ. If we

    teach young leaders that know

    Christ how to make disciples,

    theycanmakedisciplesintheir

    and communities. We can also

    have disciples meetings where

we meet and give each other

    feedback on what is happening

    andquestionscanbeanswered.

I have also learned that we,

    ourselves, need to be

    transformed in order to serve

    Christ. Transformation is taking

o! your old selfand letting God

transform you to be a new

    creation. Through this

    transformation, Ihave learned to

    liveamorespirituallydisciplined

life - discipling myself for the

    purposeofGodliness. Iwillapply

During M.I.T. I learned to spend

time with God and to keep my

focus on Him by seeking Him

daily. I am going back to

    encourage the youth of my

church to keep their focus on

    Godandletgoofthethingsthat

I have learned to be a great

    leader through Pointman. I am

would like to start a girls bible

    MymissiontoS.A. withJAMreally

taught me so much about Godand what being a true Christ

follower looks like. I learned to

    loveGod and Ilearned abouthis

awesome love for me. I learned

    about praying and worshiping

and how to really connect with

    God during those special

    moments the way that worked

best for me. I learned to love

    everyone because they were

created by our Father and He

    loves them endlesslyjust as He

    lovesme. WhenIreturnedhomeI

a chance to show that God

I don't know every scripture of

    thebible. Butthen Iremembered

what I learned ever since I

stepped foot in South Africa, to

love. That was the basis for my

mission and the basis for why

    Jesusdied forus. Itwaslove! AllI

had to do was love everyone I

    met. Ialways remindmyself God

    doesn'tcall theequipped buthe

equips the called, and he calle

on me to love those around m

    Transitioning into this new

season of my life has been a

    beautiful but challenging road. I

    miss South Africa and my

    Jabulani Africa Ministries family

    more thanever. Butduring allof

this, the Lord has continued to

reassure me that even though I

    amoceansawayfromthecountry

and people that stole my heart,

    HeisconstantandHissweetandcomforting presence never

    ceases. InthepresenceofJesus I

    don'thave toexplainmyself, my

    sweetFatherlovesmeandknows

me deeply, purely. He was with

    mewhen Iwentthough thedeep

    valleys, through the mountains

tops, and the walk in between. I

    clingtoHimandamrelieved.

Relieved because in His mercy I

    understand that theres nothing

to explain, nothing to o!er. All

Ican trustHim; I can grasp onto

    His constant tangiblepresence. I

that He is only one who can

satisfy my deepest yearning forcompanionship and love has

    been pinnacle duringthis season

    of my life. Working atJabulani

    Africa Ministries helped me

    understand that Jesus aligns

    purposes, not people. The Lord

    was equipping me during my

    timethereasHecontinuestodo

    during my time at Clemson

    University; refining my heart in

    His perfectwill to bewilling and

    obedienttoevery opportunityHe

    While IwaswithJAM, God taught

    mesomanythings, butthemost

    significantthing Godshowedme

    was His intimateand passionate

    loveforme. EversinceIreturned

    home, I havebeen seeking ways

    to inspire my Christian brothers

and sisters to pursue a deeper

    relationship withJesus. This has

led me to start a worship and

    during our times we spend

    worshiping on campus. Working

withJAM taught me that I must

    becompletelydependenton God

    in order to accomplish anything

of value for His kingdom, and

because of JAM, my faith was

    strengthened byseeing howGod

    I have been doing wonderful,

    becauseofthefaithfulnessofthe

    Like Mary, who anointed Jesus

I have learned that my alabaster

JAM year 2013Since joining JAM, God has really shown me how to live in community with

    other Christians. - Laura

JAM has changed my attitude towards life and has given me a positive

mindset on how to achieve goals in life. - Masi

I have learned more about Jesus in this year than Ihave my whole life...

because of that I have found my true identity in Christ. - Gareth

Working with JAM has shown me that many times God uses/works throug

things that I am unfamiliar with and uncomfortable with... Sometimes I need to

change my behavior based on that, but more than that I always need to

appreciate, and love (rather than judge) what and whom God chooses to use.
