Pre-School Visits This week the school has very much enjoyed having our future Kindergarten students come up and visit us in classrooms. Lots of fun and collaborative activities have been conducted, allowing our newest enrolments the opportunity to orientate themselves with the school and develop relationships with our current students. We look forward to seeing them next Tuesday at the first official orientation session.

Kindergarten Orientation Next Tuesday 31st October is when the first Kindergarten Orientation session kicks off. The session will run from 2-3pm, with preschool students participating in fun and engaging activities with our senior students and our new parents taking part in an information session in the hall.

Tardiness Recently there have been quite a few students in the school who are regularly turning up late. School commences at 9am, it is vitally important that students are at school by that time to ensure their learning and the learning of others is not disrupted. It is understandable that on occasion students have appointments booked or occasionally run late due to unforseen circumstances. However, regular tardiness is not acceptable. Please ensure that your child is at school by 9am and that running late is a seldom event rather than a regular one.

Murals Wow! Everyone in the Jamberoo community has been blown away by the amazing Aboriginal mural that was created last Thursday by our very talented indigenous students, with the assistance of the amazing Zach Bennett-Brook. Well done to India Fenwick, Jay Broadhurst, Taj Fenwick, Armani-Lee Martin, Zachariah Tidswell, Kiya Rafferty, Kyle Rafferty and Alexis Tidswell for the incredible job you did creating the mural.

The school is very much looking forward to the creation of a second mural over the next couple of weeks. Local artist, Sam Hall, will be creating another mural on the eastern wall of Birrahlee. The mural will encompass our local environment and native fauna. It will be a beautiful new feature for our school.

ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) The maths assessment was completed last term. The results achieved by Jamberoo students were very commendable. The school had 20 participants from Years 3 to 6. Of those participants, we had four merits and three credits.

Please find below the student results:

Merit – Jack Woolley, Callan Mawbey, Clare Smith, Hannah Williams

Credit – Romany Janssens, Pippi McInnes, Jack Maguire

Gold Day The whole school is excited about Gold Day which will occur on Wednesday 19th December. It is very pleasing to see how many students have already achieved ‘gold’ and we are only just into Term 4. It just goes to show what amazing and well-behaved students we have at Jamberoo Public School.

The decision has been made that Gold Day this year will be a trip to the movies for students in Kindergarten to Year 3 and a session at Flip Out for the students in Year 4 to Year 6. After the activities, the whole school will come together to have a picnic lunch.

The K-3 students will be travelling by bus to Hoyts at Warrawong and will be watching the movie Wreck It Ralph 2. The children will receive a popcorn and a drink. The students in Years 4 to 6 will travel by bus to North Wollongong Flip Out where they will participate in 2 hours of fun and thrills.

After the movie, we will head to Lake Illawarra foreshore, have some lunch and play some games. Gold Day will be a well-deserved reward for our wonderful students who achieve gold in 2018! The cost of the day is ‘free’. Transport, movie ticket and Flip Out entry will be covered. The students will just need to bring their lunch, recess and drink with them for the picnic.

A permission note for parents will be sent home via Care Monkey in the next week or so.

Enviroweek This Friday, we are encouraging students to have waste free lunch boxes in recognition of Enviroweek. Mrs Kunkler will hand out raffle tickets to students who have waste free (package free lunch boxes) at lunch time. Each student who receives a ticket will go into a raffle draw which will occur at the whole school assembly. The winning student will receive a free lunch order next Tuesday.

Scholastic Book Fair Next Thursday, the 1st of November, we will be holding a Scholastic Book Fair in the library where students and parents will have the opportunity to purchase brand new books. P&C News Hi all! An excellent P&C meeting was had last night, a great team of people moving swiftly through a great agenda. We’d absolutely love anyone who is curious about what goes on behind the scenes to come and give a meeting a go! New faces are a must to keep opinions and suggestions diverse and representative of the whole school. If a meeting isn’t possible, then feel free to send an email to [email protected] with thoughts or suggestions, and don’t forget that letting us know the things that you love about the school and its events etc are just as important as the things you don’t love, as it lets us know when we’re on the right track! Some recent P&C news: Mrs McCormack and Mrs Kunkler came and talked to us about the need for some new guided readers for K-2 and the P&C were able to donate $3000 to purchase lots of new sets for classrooms! After some excellent sourcing from fundraising queen Jackie Hall, we have found a quote we are very happy with for a donated screen and associated technology for the Library which will be an excellent resource for teachers and students and a possible prototype to replace the aging smart boards in the senior classrooms. Thank you to all involved in raising this money and doing the legwork to get it moving forward. After a huge amount of positive feedback from the school community, the uniform shop will go ahead with the change to the sports uniform. This will be available for 2019 Yr 3’s and anyone who would like to change over to the new style. Don’t forget that there will be a long transition period so don’t feel like you need to get rid of a perfectly good current uniform for no reason! There are also hats with the new font coming soon, so snap yourself up a bargain extra hat with the older font for $8 (down from $15). A BIG thank you to Janine Wilkins, the uniform shop extraordinaire for all of your hard work getting this happening!! Bubbles and Bargains is only a few weeks away on the 15th of November, so please make sure to get your donation clothes in (kids and womens!) to the uniform shop or the white basket outside the uniform shop with your name on the bag for a little kickback! Also, make sure the evening itself is in your calendar, it’ll be a great opportunity for the school community to spend some time reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. SPIRIT OF SERVICE AWARD: The P&C are calling for nominations for a parent/helper nomination for the 2018, Spirit of Service Award. Please email your nomination to Naomi Poole at: [email protected]
