TOURISM TIDBITS By Debi Boughton Tourism Director

Autumn is a time for colorful leaves and sunny afternoons and in Kirksville it is a time for the annual ARToberfest, the Scottish Highland Games, and a new exhibit at the Kirksville Arts Center called Bernard Perlin, An Artist Goes to War. ARToberfest: “Wine, Craft Beer and Home-brew” Tasting is Saturday, October 4th, 2014, from 4:30 – 7:30 pm. The event will be inside the KAA main gallery. Attendees must be 21 years of age to taste. Free souvenir tasting glass is available to the first 50 attendees. Tickets are $15 pre-sale at Edna Campbell’s or $20 at the door. The Scottish Highland Games is October 4th, 2014. This annual event features weight lifting games and competitions in traditional feats of strength such as the caber toss and the Braemer stone throw. Also, live Scottish music will be performed. The event is held at the Faith Lutheran Church lawn, 1810 S. Baltimore Street. Cost is free to spectators. The Bernard Perlin: an Artist Goes to War Exhibit begins November 7th and runs through January 3rd, 2015. This exhibit is a retrospective focusing on the World War II artwork of American artist, Bernard Perlin. Perlin worked in the graphic division of the Office of War Information in 1942, creating iconic propaganda posters to rally the war effort. Over 50 pieces including posters, paintings and drawings will be on display. In addition to all the fall festivals the tourism office is busy hosting conferences, reunions and groups. I had the delightful opportunity to help with the class reunion of the Kirksville High School class of 1954. Among other activities the attendees hopped on a school bus for a then and now tour of Kirksville. The tourism office provided welcome bags for the group. If you have a class reunion coming up the tourism office can help organize tours, catering, venues, hotel group rates and provide welcome bags for attendees.

Meet your Chamber Board!
