MONDAY v LUKE 12;1-7v  THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES• 1Meanwhile, so many people were crowding together that they were

trampling one another underfoot. He began to speak, first to hisdisciples, “Beware of the leaven—that is, the hypocrisy—of thePharisees.

• Courage under Persecution. “There is nothing concealed that willnot be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. Therefore whateveryou have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what youhave whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on thehousetops. 4I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill thebody but after that can do no more. shall show you whom to fear. Beafraid of the one who after killing has the power to cast intoGehenna yes, I tell you, be afraid of that one. 6Are not five sparrowssold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God. 7Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be

afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.

TUESDAY • LUKE 12:8-12•

I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me beforeothers the Son of Man will acknowledge before theangels of God. But whoever denies me before otherswill be denied before the angels of God.

• Sayings about the Holy Spirit. “Everyone whospeaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven,

but the one who blasphemes against the holy Spirit willnot be forgiven. When they take you beforesynagogues and before rulers and authorities, do notworry about how or what your defense will be or aboutwhat you are to say. For the holy Spirit will teach you at

that moment what you should say.”

WEDNESDAY • LUKE 12:13-21

• Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell mybrother to share the inheritance with me.” 14He repliedto him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge andarbitrator?” 15Then he said to the crowd, “Take care toguard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” Parable of the Rich Fool. 16Then he told them a parable. “There

was a rich man whose land produced a bountifulharvest. 17He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I donot have space to store my harvest?’ 18And he said,‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns andbuild larger ones. There I shall store all my grain andother goods and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you,

you have so many good things stored up for manyyears, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”But God said tohim, ‘You fool, this night your life will bedemanded of you; and the things you haveprepared, to whom will they belong?’ 21Thus willit be for the one who stores up treasure for

himself but is not rich in what matters to God

THURSDAY

Luke12:22-32• Dependence on God. 22l He said to [his] disciples, “Therefore I tell you,

do not worry about your life and what you will eat, or about your body andwhat you will wear. 23For life is more than food and the body more thanclothing. 24Notice the ravens: they do not sow or reap; they have neitherstorehouse nor barn, yet God feeds them. How much more important are youthan birds!m 25Can any of you by worrying add a moment to yourlifespan? 26If even the smallest things are beyond your control, why are you

anxious about the rest? 27Notice how the flowers grow. They do not toil orspin. But I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like oneof them.n 28If God so clothes the grass in the field that grows today and isthrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O youof little faith? 29As for you, do not seek what you are to eat and what youare to drink, and do not worry anymore. 30All the nations of the world seekfor these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31Instead,seek his kingdom, and these other things will be given you besides. 32Donot be afraid any longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you thekingdom.o

FRIDAY • LUKE 12:33-48• 33Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags for yourselves

that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven that no thief canreach nor moth destroy.p 34For where your treasure is, there also will yourheart be.

• Vigilant and Faithful Servants.* 35q “Gird your loins and light yourlamps 36and be like servants who await their master’s return from awedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.r37Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his

arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. 38And should he come in the second or third

watch and find them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants. 39sBe sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when thethief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40Youalso must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Manwill come.”

• 41Then Peter said, “Lord, is this parable meant for us or foreveryone?” 42And the Lord replied, “Who, then, is the faithful and prudentsteward whom the master will put in charge of his servants to distribute[the] food allowance at the proper time? 43Blessed is that servant whomhis master on arrival finds doing so. 44Truly, I say to you, he will put him incharge of all his property. 45But if that servant says to himself, ‘My masteris delayed in coming,’* and begins to beat the menservants and themaidservants, to eat and drink and get drunk, 46then that servant’smaster will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and willpunish him severely and assign him a place with the unfaithful. 47Thatservant who knew his master’s will but did not make preparations nor actin accord with his will shall be beaten severely;t 48and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will but acted in a way deserving of a severebeating shall be beaten only lightly. Much will be required of the person

entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the personentrusted with more

SATURDAY

• L 49“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it werealready blazing! 50* There is a baptism with which I must bebaptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished!u51Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?vNo, I tell you, but rather division.w 52From now on a household of

five will be divided, three against two and two against three; 53afather will be divided against his son and a son against his father, amother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, amother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law

against her mother-in-law.”x• Signs of the Times.y 54He also said to the crowds, “When you see

[a] cloud rising in the west you say immediately that it is going to rain—and so it does; 55and when you notice that the wind is blowingfrom the south you say that it is going to be hot—and so it is. 56Youhypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earthand the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time?

SUNDAY

•  JOHN 21:1-11• 1* After this, Jesus revealed himself again to his disciples

at the Sea of Tiberias. He revealed himself in this way.a2Together were Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus,Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, Zebedee’s sons,* and twoothers of his disciples. 3* Simon Peter said to them, “I amgoing fishing.” They said to him, “We also will come withyou.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that nightthey caught nothing.b 4When it was already dawn, Jesus

was standing on the shore; but the disciples did not realizethat it was Jesus.c 5Jesus said to them, “Children, have youcaught anything to eat?” They answered him, “No.”d 6Sohe said to them, “Cast the net over the right side of theboat and you will find something.” So they cast it, and werenot able to pull it in because of the number of fish. 7So thedisciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.”When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tucked in

his garment, for he was lightly clad, and jumped into thesea. 8The other disciples came in the boat, for they werenot far from shore, only about a hundred yards, draggingthe net with the fish. 9* e When they climbed out onshore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it andbread. 10Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you

just caught.” 11So Simon Peter went over and dragged the

net ashore full of one hundred fifty-three* large fish. Eventhough there were so many, yet was not the net broken
