I had the pleasure of working with Mr. James Smith at William Jacob Management from February .14, untilFebruary ' I 5. During that time I was the Structural Engineering & Design Coordinator for William JacobManagement, James was hired to be the structural design checker on many of our in-house pro-iects.
At all times James has exhibited the highest standards of professionalism. His knowledge of the driilingindustry, equipment and procedures was invaluable to the success of the project. He wai asked continuallyduring the course ofthe project to take on additional roles and responsibilities which he gladly did andhandled expertly.
In addition James was the backbone of the project team. He provided guidance and coaching for youngeremployees and was in all respects a team player working for the success of the project.
I very much enjoyed working with James. I would be happy to have him again on any project or team andwould not hesitate to hire him. James R. Smith was employed by Marconi Marine (YSL) Ltd from 09/11/98 to 25lO2lOO
as a Senior Draughtsman on Brunei O.P.V.1 (1"tof Class). During this period he was involved with the
creation oi a CADDS 5 Primitive 3-D Ships Structure model working from Design Guidance & Scantling
Drawings. He then progressed to be involved with the creation of a 3-D solid model,
Defining all relevant Structure concurrent with Outfit Systems.This included the modification
of the Structure model as Engineering progressed by means of Design change (DMlRs,
D.A.Ns & T.l.C.Rs). His experience was invaluable and was utilised to check and assist less
experienced Draughtsmen within their tasks. James was able to assist with the Design Validation of
the Ships Structure by means of Cadds 5 Visualiser. He then progressed to be involved with the
production of Workstation Drawings for the Operations Assembly shops, within this he created Piece
Parts for Plasma Burning and Coded Sections for bar marking including sets and templates.
James had to work a basic 37 Hours per week with an average 10 Hours per week Overtime
to enable the section to achieve our program, which he willingly contributed'
James was a Key Player within the team and an asset to the Structure Section. I found him to
be most reliable and he supporled this by his Experience, timekeeping, his pleasant manner and his
willingness to impad his experience whenever possible.I would recommend James as a very capable Structural Draughtsman with excellent Potential
Supervisory Skills.
