Viega ProRadiant™ systems installed in Vancouver’s Jameson HouseMore than 25 years ago, Vancouver, British Columbia hosted EXPO 86, the world’s largest international transportation and communications exposition. In the decades since, buyers from all over the world have invested in landmark real estate projects, marketed using Vancouver’s natural beauty, its reputation as a vibrant cosmopolitan center for international business and its unique architecture. The Jameson House, designed by world-renowned architects Foster and Partners, is the latest expression of this international influence.

The Jameson House, a contemporary high-rise building in downtown Vancouver designed to include radiant heating and cooling, will be a facility for both commercial and residential use.

According to Mark Evans, Director of Sales for Viega in Canada, the Jameson House project stood out due to its scale, scope and stature as a new landmark on the Vancouver skyline.

Evans believes that Viega’s success with the Jameson House project is undoubtedly the result of teamwork between Viega and Viega’s business partners.

William Kelly and Sons, Jameson House contractors, is a leading mechanical contracting firm with offices in Alberta, British Columbia and California. Founded in 1972, their management team brings over 100 years of combined industry expertise to customers, providing a full range of services including specification work and design-assist to the commercial, light industrial and government markets.

“We were made aware of Viega products by one of our suppliers, Andrew Sheret,” said Liam Kelly, President of William Kelly and Sons. “The initial presentation was excellent. Great products, the history in the United States, the team aspect of having a supplier,

agent and direct factory representative all pitching the Viega system—they all had a part in our decision to go with Viega.”

Ron Sandau, Jameson House Project Manager, felt the presentation proved that Viega representatives had done their homework.

“Their having been prepared gave us a sense that they were going to be pro-active on this project,” Sandau said, “and we needed our suppliers to be that way.”

Axiom, a division of Bosa Properties which had been charged with building the Jameson House, had constructed a model suite in an off-site warehouse. Installing materials in this model first decreased the number of unexpected needs that often arise during construction on large-scale projects like Jameson House.

“At that time, it was critical for everyone to all be on the same page,” Kelly said. “A residential tower with a four-pipe radiant heating and

cooling system is not installed every day. Viega and Canadian Aqualine brought a level of performance, knowledge, availability and reassurance that was really appreciated.”

Sandau thought Viega’s attendance and participation with the model suite was excellent.

“What really blew me away,” Sandau said, “was their level of product and practical knowledge of radiant systems. Because we were prepared for the material requirements well before we needed them, there were no back-orders.”

Completing the final design work was also a team effort, putting Viega’s design team to the test. Kelly felt that the lines of communication between the Jameson House project and Viega were swift and well thought out. According to Sandau, communication is always important but with a project like the Jameson House, it becomes essential.

“Viega has done an excellent job,” Sandau said. “There has been no downtime when design changes happened. The Viega team has been knowledgeable, helpful and pro-active.”

Sandau mentioned that one area of the project needed an adjustment, changing the manifolds from a five-port to a six-port. According to Sandau, the problem was resolved right away.

“Many companies say that they offer value to customers,” Evans said, “but few find a way to demonstrate this in real terms. This

job proves the commitment of Andrew Sheret, Canadian Aqualine and Viega not just as vendors but business partners who bring value to our customers through our design expertise and level of field service.”
