Tochimizolco Medical Mission - The 2013 Tochimizolco Medical Mission is scheduled for April 2nd - April 9th. For over 20 years, Dayspring has joined Grace UMC from Olathe, Kansas in providing medical, dental and other health services in this small village in Central Mexico. We are looking for medical and dental professionals as well as hard working volunteers to assist. The work is hard, the living conditions are rustic, but the personal and spiritual rewards are huge. If you would like to learn more, contact Larry Butler, [email protected] or Bev Muller, [email protected].

Playgroup - The Playgroup will meet at Campbell Park on Friday, January 18th, around 10:00 a.m. Hope to see some new faces! Contact Nancy Hartgrove with any questions at [email protected].

The Explorer’s Class for this month focuses on the evolution of marriage and family in recent decades. This morning’s topic will be “The History of Marriage: marital myths” and “Same Sex marriage - changes in the law.” DVD’s from speakers at the National Association for Marriage & Family Therapy will be played and discussion on this controversial topic will be held. 9:00 a.m. in the Adult Room. Jane Baker leads this study.

Contemporary Issues - The Adult Contemporary Issues class begins a new series on the topic of “Happiness”. The series will involve videos and discussion based on the views of multiple philosophers and our Christian heritage to understand the state of “happiness”. Sandi Chamness is leading the discussion. Class meets at 10:30 in the Adult Room.

United Methodist Women meet Thursday, January 17th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Adult Room for its annual pledge service. Bonny Sloane will lead the program, “Preparing Our Priorities.” Member pledges are a significant part of our mission support for women, children and youth. All women who desire to join in fellowship and service are invited.

Singles at Dayspring - Singles, Etc. Lunches - Each Sunday after the second service, those who want to go out for lunch as a group meet at the restaurant listed below. If you attend first service, please join us! We gather around noon under the name “Dayspring”. Jan. 13 -

Start off the New Year with 50+ on January 18, 2013! Lunch will be served at 12 noon in the Shalimar Country Club restaurant, 2032 E. Golf Ave., Tempe. Dr. Phyllis Coston, retired professor, will speak about current successful careers of her former students with learning disabilities. Dr. Coston has received national and state awards as a leader in the teaching of reading and as a teacher in learning disability programs. Some of her stories will be shared with us. Make your $12 per person reservations with Erma Dean (480) 839-4657, or with a 50+ caller. All are welcome!

Thank You to all who helped with Family Promise. Because of you, we were able to host 4 families: 5 adults and 9 children. New Year’s Eve, everyone enjoyed a Happy New Year cake and karaoke. New Year’s Day the families had the opportunity to go to the Pollack Cinemas. Thank you again for your help and support of this mission! We host again the week of April 7. Please save the date!
